I heard a bloke giving Sharpling some stick on Saturday - what a shame, though not altogether surprising given the way we are with some of our players (I've still not forgiven the guy who gave GG such terrible stick at Nuneaton ... very underrated, he was, if not altogether match-fit).
I think Sharps has done everything but score a goal - I mean, he's not looked a bad player. He's looked good. Sometimes he's looked a bit short of confidence perhaps - but you can still see the quality shining through.
With Warren Patmore injured and Charlie back I see a golden opportunity to revive Charlie's flagging confidence (I am assuming that ending a loan spell in Havant and Waterlooville reserves didn't do wonders for him) and get that partnership going again. Let's not pile too much pressure on Chris's shoulders (OK, I know we paid a lot of money) and let's give him someone we know he can work with, not Westy (bless him) who, for all his running and hard work is not really a Conference striker.
I really do believe that one goal is all it needs for the floodgates to open as far as Sharps is concerned. And Charlie - his goals to game ratio (remember he's barely played) is pretty good, and he was top scorer last season even though he didn't play in all of the games. I've always said that Charlie is a rough diamond with a potentially excellent Conference striker underneath (he made the NLP team of the year last season, for what it's worth) - and he learnt so much playing alongside Sharps last season. Sharpling ignited the whole team, and let's see it again - don't get me wrong, Wazza is a class act - but he's injured, and we've got two young lads that absolutely relished playing alongside each other last season SO LET'S GIVE THEM ANOTHER CHANCE!
We're behind you Charlie - even if we do take the piss out of your (lovely) eyebrows. And Chris, keep at it because the goals WILL come.
I was surprised that Charlie came back from loan so quickly - i thought we'd porbably seen the last of him but I believe he and Sharpling can give us that much needed boost - their record together last year speaks for itself - lets hope Chapple has the give it a try - he's tried out enough new things in the last few weeks. It's a great prospect especially if Scotty finds his form - his passing could give the front two many chances.
Sharpling and Griffin were amazing when they played last season, and I think that they will give us more options than Patmore-Sharpling. All 3 are good in their own way, but there is only one partnership that will work. Farnborough are a good team, but we have that home record, and hopefully a big crowd will be there to create the atmosphere the boys need. Come on Woking!
I think Charlie is a natural striker with a good eye for goal and good finishing ability. I also think he's faster than he appears (well, that's what Shane Wye said anyway!).
I think he's a player whose confidence sometimes seems a bit fragile but I back him to come back into the side and help to start setting things alight again. Come on Charlie!!!
I think Ruggles should partner Sharpling up front - Phil's on fire at the moment! Put Patmore or Steele behind those two with a midfield of erm......someone.......Perkins, Kadi and Barrymore anyone?!
Anyway, that's what I reckon......
Actually I forgot about Ruggles. I'd prefer to see Charlie up front initially, but I've got to say - Ruggles has done more than enough to prove he deserves a chance at this level, surely?
How many goals did he score for Hendon? In fact, how many has he got in total this season?
