Louisville Slugger 40 FB Bat

Yesterday I found an old Louisville Slugger 40FB bat in poor condition. I have been searching the internet to learn about it. I found out a lot about it, but this bat has a mark that I don't see in any pictures and no one mentions. On the grip end it is says: Nex Taylor & Co. NY. Does anyone know anything about this mark? Thanks, John
