Murder of John BurksbyHi, I just saw your post. I am looking for my Burk(s) from Jackson County, Alabama and Franklin County, Tennessee. I have J. M. Burk born 1831 married Mary A. Their children were: Elmore Burk born 1851, William Burk born 1853, Obadiah F. Burk born 1856, Matilda L. Burk born 1858, Joseph Burk born 1860. Do you have any of these people in your family tree? I don't know much about my Burk's, I'm having trouble finding information about them. I've never heard the story about the murder of John Burks. I know that my J.M. Burk(s) dissappeared after the Civil War. I assume that he died during the war. I found an entry in a book that said a J.M. Burk had died during the war but not knowing what the initials--J.M. stand for, it could have been someone else. Do we have a match? I look forward to hearing from you.
