You did not state what time period you will be researching; therefore, I will give an answer for basic research. In the Probate Judge's office in the downtown Court House, you will find deeds, marriage records, and willis and estate settlement books. The Probate Judge's office is open 8:oo to 4:30, Monday through Friday. The genealogy room of the Scottsboro Public Library (1002 South Broad Street) contains books pertaining to Jackson County and North Alabama history, as well as a large section of family histories. You will also find the Annie Coleman Proctor genealogy records copies of the Jackson County Historical Association's quarterly publications, and mircrofilmed old newspapers and census records housed in the library. The library is open from 9:00 to 5:00, Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 to 1:00 on Saturdays.
The Scottsboro-Heritage Center on Houston Street two block from the southwest corner of the court house square has maps, family histories, and some old court records which were originally housed in the court house. The Heritage Center is open from 11:00 to 4:00, Monday through Friday. There are four good motels on the John T. Reid Parkway (which is the section of US Highway 72 which traverses Scottsboro.) They include the Jameson Inn, the Day's Inn, ValueInn, and the Comfort Inn.
