Re: John Hays married Narcissis Jane 1850, Jackson Co. AL

The marriage records for Jackson Co. prior to 1851 were burned by Union Troops during the Civil War.
John and Narissa would have been married between 1 Jun 1849 and 1 Jun 1850 which was the census year not the year prior to the day the census was taken. You might try looking in the adjoining counties in Tennessee to see if they were married there.
