I'm stuck too

by

Hi. I am looking for some Witts too. Mainly, the parents of Ewing Shelby Witt of Jackson County, who lived in the Atalla area part of his life. He was born about 1854 and died abt 1919. He married a Davis first, and then my gggrandmother, Mary Lee Woody. He also had a brother named James. They were raised by a William Taylor and Mallie ? I do think it is possible that this Mallie is the mother, but family lore from James decendents says they were an aunt and uncle to them. Does any of this ring any bells to you?

Thank you for your response.

BIGGS IN ALA

by

HI MY BIGGS THAT I KNOW FOR SURE WERE ELIAS ba 1795 NC AND MARGARET [GUEST]BIGGS ba 1795 TN. THEY MOVED FROM WARREN CO TN AROUND 1820, GIVE OR TAKE A YR., TO MARSHALL CO ALA. THEY LIVED THERE UNTIL ABOUT 1847, THEN MOVED TO DESOTO CO MS. 3 OF THE GIRLS MARRIED THERE, SUSAN TO HIRAM HENRY VANN 11-4-1835, BLOUNT CO ALA. THEY LIVED IN MADISON CO UNTIL SHE DIED IN 1874 MADISON CO ALA. MALINDA m WM. LEMLEY ba 1830 MADISON CO. 9-8-1846 MARSHALL CO. MARGARET ba 1827 ALA. m JOHN W. LEMLEY b1828 ALA 1-10-1847
HENRY C. BIGGS b2-11-1822 MARSHALL CO ALA m 1ST MAHEMA LIMBY 1843 IN MADISON CO. HE WENT ON PAST DESOTO CO MS AND WED TWICE IN DREW CO ARK. BENJAMIN T. ba 1828 WED ELIZABETH JANE LEMLEY ABOUT 1843 OR 1844 IN MADISON CO OR MARSHALL CO. HE IS MY 2ND GT GP. HE WAS COUNTED IN MADISON CO ALA AND DESOTO CO MS IN 1850 CENSUS. HE GOT A DEED TO LAND IN MADISON CO IN 1852 BUT MUST HAVE GONE ON TO DREW CO ARK. BECAUSE HE HAD ANOTHER DEED IN 1861 IN DREW CO ARK. THE THREE GIRLS STAYED IN MADISON CO ALA. OTHER KIDS MOVED WITH ELIAS AND MARGARET TO MISS.
MY INTEREST IN NANCY AND MR 'X' BIGGS IS THAT THEY LIVED IN JACKSON CO ALA BUT HE IS NOT IN THE 1830 CENSUS. ONLY NANCY AND A TEEN MALE ARE COUNTED. THERE WAS ANOTHER TEEN IN THE FAMILY, BUT HE MUST HAVE BEEN WORKING AWAY FROM HOME AT CENSUS TIME. ALSO, IN 1850 CENSUS THEY ARE IN JACKSON CO ILL, JOSEPH b 1815 TN AND JAMES BIGGS b 1817 TN WITH FAMILIES AND NANCY b 1782 NC AND CALVIN E. BIGGS b1828 ALA ARE LIVING WITH JOSEPH. General Field Hospital - Bridgeport, Alabama

by Gary Watson

My gggrandfather, Thomas Elder was admitted to the general field hospital, Bridgeport, Alabama on December 10, 1863 with a gunshot wound in the left leg. I have no further information on him and believe that he died in that hospital and was buried nearby. Can anyone tell me the cemetery where confederate soldiers that died in the hospital at Bridgeport were likely buried? This has been a many year quest so any information would be greatly appreciated.

James Maxwell

by

I am seeking information on the parents of my Ggrandfather James Maxwell of Jackson County, Alabama and hoping perhaps you might know something about them . James Maxwell married Sarah Pennington, the daughter of Joel Pennington & Hannah Hembree, September 29, 1872 in Jackson County, Alabama.

I found James Maxwell listed as the son of Emory Carrol Maxwell on Rootsweb World Connect but have no sources to prove this.

Most of my Millican Family are buried at Maxwell Cemetery, Flat Rock, Jackson County, Alabama. (Sand Mountain) There are a # of Maxwells buried there in unmarked graves. I believe they are my family as my mother always put flowers on their graves.

I have an uncle (deceased) named John Emory Millican. His parents were John D. Millican,(son of Andrew Jackson Millican & Mary Elvira Scott) and Hannah Maxwell, (daughter of James Maxwell & Sarah Pennington).I have seen both Sarah and Hannah as having a middle name of Caroline.

Hannah was married (1) Charley Hawes and they had 4 daughters. (2) John D. Millican and they had a daughter and a son. I do not have her death date but she died when the children were quite young.

I recently had a computer crash so lost most of my research. I am willing to share what I have left. I am seeking any information, pics, stories , etc. that anyone can share with me.

Thanks,

Louise Carver Howard

Johnson and Evins Families in 1850

by

I just made a connection with my family which brought to light William and Jincy Johnson, parents of Isaac and Rubin Johnson on T5R5 District #20 page 59A Household #118 Family #118 for Jackson County, Alabama. Jincy Johnson's maiden name was Evins (or Evans) and I believe her brother was Archabal Evins located on the same page dwelling and family #116.

If this rings a bell with anyone, I could sure use some help!

Thanks!

Henry B. PAGE / Emily BLANCETT 1840

by

I'm looking for any information on Henry Page (Supposedly a redheaded Englishmen) and son Henry Benton Page, b. 1821, and Henry B.'s wife Emily [Blancett, Blancet, Blanchett, Blansett] Page. The 1840 Jackson Co. census has them living in the county. They moved on to Jackson/Platte Co. MO in about 1846 and later ~1850 to Upshur Co. and ~1863 to Titus Co., TX.

Emily b. ~1826 was the daughter of James and Elizabeth [Kinnatzer/Conatsons] Blancett.

My gg-grandfather Elijah H. Page, b. 1825, was Henry Benton Page's younger brother who moved on with them.

Thanks,

Kinnemar Family

Last October I acquired a book titled "THE FAMILY OF JAMES ALLEN KENNAMER and MATILDA (MAPLES) KENNAMER". The Kennamer family lived in the area of Woodville, AL. The spelling of the name is different. Does this book sound like anything you might be interested in? I was in Woodville researching the "WHITECOTTON" family when the librarian gave me a copy of this Kennamer book. Let me know.

Question about Pendergrass family

by

Hi Mary,
I'm not responding about the book. I saw that you are researching the Pendergrass family and I thought you might could help me.

My Great Grandfather was William McLane OR sometimes listed McClain. My Grandfather Wrote in his family Bible that William's mother was Mattie Pendergrass. Will married Ellen Guthrie in Jackson Co., AL in 1893 and he drowned mysteriously in a body of water,(not sure how big a body), in Jackson County, in 1910. My Mother says Will and Ellen lived in Scotsboro. My Mom is 82 and isn't always the best historian.

I have not been able to find Will's Parents. I did find a Martha Pendergrass McLane who had 3 boys, but they were John, George and Willis. No information on the father. I know Will had a brother named Willis that married Sarah E. Guthie. Ellen and her children lived with Willis' family in 1910 after Will Died. This is on the 1910 census. (Marshall Co. I believe).

I feel sure that this Mattie Pendergrass McLane was his Mother but with the names different I can't prove it.
Does any of this fit into what you are researching? I would appreciate any help you could give me on this family.

Thank you,
Vickie Hensley
