Tombstone information

by

I have a great uncel who is buried in Blue Springs Cemetery in Larkinsville Al Charles F. Driver. He worked for the railroad there in the 1870's. His stone is about 4 feet tall and narrow and tall he also has a son buried there and I believe his wife. I was wondering if this stone is a personal stone or would the railroad have furnished it. Any information greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Boothe Family

by

I am looking for any information about my grandfather, Eli R. Boothe, sometimes listed as Booth and his first wife Mary A. (Harper). Eli was born Aug 17, 1865 in Alabame but I don't know where. I have him in Jackson County on the 1900 Census, with his wife, Mary Alice (Harper), daughter age 10 - Mirtle, Daughter age 7 Marthia, and a son age 4 - Willis. I know Willis was killed in WWI in France. I can't find any information on him from the 1910 census, I do know that by 1919 he had moved to OK., and in May 1919 married my grandmother, Ida Jane Newman, then moved to Ark, Sheridan Grant Co. on the 1920 Census, I only show him my grandmother (Ida) a daughter - Daisy age 17, born in OK., and a son David age 10 born in OK.
My Mom had told me he worked for the railroad, I would appreciate any information about him, his wife or children.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Boothe Family

I think this is your Eli Booth on the 1880 Jackson Co. Census

1880 Dist 113 (Township 3 Range 8) Jackson Co. AL
House/Family 21
Alexander Booth 47 Self Farmer GA VA VA
Barbary A. 48 Wife Keeping House TN TN TN
General 19 Son Labor AL GA TN
Marion 19 Son At Home AL GA TN
Lowry 08 Son 8 Son At Home AL GA TN
Ely 12 or 13 Son At Home AL GA TN
Hugh 05 Son At Home AL GA TN

AL Marriage Index Jackson Co.
Eli Boothe m. Nancy Ann Hays 14 Mar 1886 by MOG J.B. Peters OS Page 17

This says Eli's wife's last name was Hays not Harper the 1900 Census lists
her first name as Merry.

Other than the 1900 Census I have so far not been able to find any of them.

M. L. Swann

by

Hi. I am trying to find the burial place of M. L. Swann. I found his name on a site with usgwarchives.org. M. L. Swann lived in Knoxville and published the Harp of Columbia and New Harp of Columbia songbooks in 1848 and 1867, respectively. These books are similar to the Sacred Harp songbook that is used in areas of Alabama, Georgia, and elsewhere. Swann moved to Bellefonte after he left Knoxville and according to George Pullen Jackson (1933) he was buried in an unmarked grave at the Bellefonte estate. Swann is listed on usgarchives.org as having no grave marker but the original record that he is buried there comes from "Annie Coleman Proctor’s book at the Scottsboro Public Library printed in the early 1960’s". I would like to know if anyone knows about this record from the 1960s. Perhaps it gives more information on the grave or where it is located? I went to the cemetery on Sunday (on the way to a Sacred Harp singing in Henagar) and did not find a headstone, of course. A number of people in east Tennessee still sing from M. L. Swann's old book and I think it would be nice for us to know if he is buried there.
Thanks,
Jonathon Smith

If I'm not mistaken the founder of the Larkinsville Hambricks was Greenberry Hambrick b. 1789 in N.C. His father Robert b. about 1762 died in Tennessee. My connection is through Henry Alfred Hambrick who married Priscilla Dillard McCutchen.

Pleasant Riley DODSON info

by

I am looking to connect with anyone related to Pleasant Riley DODSON (born abt. 1822 TN or AL) who lived in Jackson County for a time. He's listed on the 1860 census in Jackson County, but by 1900 was on the census in Barry County, Missouri. He did return, as I have him listed as buried in the Miller Mountain cemetary in Jackson County, but don't have a death date. He was married to Margaret Addaline KING (born 9 May 1833 AL, died 15 Oct 1911 Jackson County, buried in the Travis cemetary at Mud Creek). They had 10 children: their daughter Jaley Ann DODSON is my 2nd great grandmother.

I connected with a woman related to their son Samuel, but lost her contact information and would love to find her (or anyone related to this line) to exchange information and photos. I am hoping to post this information on several Jackson County genealogy sites, so I apologize for the repetition if you belong to several. I sincerely appreciate any help anyone has to offer.

Thank you!

My mother came up short tracking the Golden line. Her initial research led her to the Shadrach Golden line, which she discarded and said was incorrect. Before she died 18 years ago she thought to trace the Freeman line. I wish we could track the property through the Alexanders, and even Robbins. Could Margaret Ann possiby been a descendant of Alexander and L. Freeman-a daughter caring for her mother?

Early Thomas families

by

I have been gathering information on the Joseph Thomas family of Doran's Cove. Joseph came to the Cove in 1818 having been born in VA. in 1795.

Recently, I was told that his father and siblings had come from VA to Ky, to Tn and then to AL. Also that his father was named Samuel with brothers Robert, Samuel, Rubin, and others. Recently, I found a Rubin born in VA in 1780 living in Dist 19 in the 1850 Census. I was also told that a brother went to DeKalb county and settled.

Is anyone familiar with thes Thomas families?

Thomas family

by

My GGG Grandfather was Samuel Houston Thomas, born 26 Nov 1854 (said to be Doran's Cove, Alabama), died 9 Apr 1945 in Austin, Texas. I believe he had a brother named George Washington Thomas, and their father's name was Samuel Houston Thomas also. I was able to find Sam Jr on the 1880 Marion County, Tennessee census, with his wife, children, and mother. If this is the same family, I would love to swap information.
