Abnormal pap smear

I just recieved a letter from my gyn...apparently my pap test from last week has abnormal results (ASCUS). I'm very healthy, I was taking PM for a few months and thats the only thing I've changed. I am one of those girls who routinely get annual exams even when i'm not sexually active. I'm 24 and haven't had any problems before, I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this while on PM??

Not Taking PM but.........

ASCUS is a relatively common abnormal Pap test result indicating “atypical cells of undetermined significance.” It is consdidered to be a slightly irregular reading. Adding a HPV testing is the current standard of care guiding the follow-up process. If your reading is ASCUS and negative for high-risk HPV strains, then repeat Pap testing is usually ordered at more frequent intervals for a while to monitor your immune response, with the hope that you will be able to heal any of the abnormal cells. If your reading is ASCUS and positive for high-risk HPV strains, then you will need to have a colposcopy for proper diagnosis.

Seeing as you will probably have a follow up, it might be wise to mention taking the PM, as that with all the other herbs, play with the hormones of the body, which could results in an abnormal test.

That said, it is very common for a woman to have at least one abnormal pap reading in their life, with many resulting in nothing. An inflammed or irritated cervix can lead to an abnormal reading as well.

Abnormal pap!

August 16 2007, 6:14 PM

Hi, I am usually pretty healthy myself, and I go yearly as well. I've never had an issue, except once my pap came back abnormal. I wasn't on pm then, but from what they told me ocassionally your body will catch a virus and it will settle in one of your organs. In my case my pap was abnormal and my liver function was off. They told me to wait a week and go back to do another. Sure enough a week passed, I repeated both tests, and everything was fine. Sometimes you just catch a little something and it heals itself. Does your doctor want you to repeat the test? I would suggest in a week you have another pap just to be sure nothing is going on.

I do not think it is the PM. That happened to me too, and I wasn't on PM.

Good Luck...

Cynthia

Thanks for the responses! I have my follow-up appointment tomorrow. Just was a bit spooked when I first heard of the news. I believe I had an hpv test during my annual exam, I havent been sexually active in the past year though, and before that I was with my boyfriend of 4 years. I talked to a few of my doctor friends and some mentioned it could just be a bad test sample. I will cross my fingers for tomorrow!

re abnormal pap

I am curious about this one...if anyone knows for sure that PM would affect the pap smear or if a doctor tells them something related be sure to let us know.

What I know abour PM and cancer is that PM is a potent ANTI-Cancer agent.

It actually will inhibit the growth of many hormone dependant cancer cell lines including but not limited to ovarian cancer cells...INHIBIT !!!!

The ACS (American Cancer Society) took a long look at PM and determined that is was not only safe but an anti-cancer compound.

The article is on my site...inside my ebay store...you know where...

www.stores.ebay.com/phytosense-premium-herbals

Come buy and read it. It is fascinating.
