Firstly, congratulations to Peter Nicol and the Grinham sisters for their fantastic achievements.
BUT, as an avid squash fan it would have been nice to actually watch some of the play. I stayed up late last night to watch both matches, and what we got on channel 9 was the last 5 minutes of each match. Both delayed telecasts.
Absolutely disgraceful.Three of the players were Australians playing for gold medals. In a country with such a successful sporting history in squash, why is it that it still gets no media recognition even when it is being played within Australia?
I agree with former commentators to this forum, it is all very well to have every match played on pay T.V, but this is certainly not the way to open it up to the Australian and International viewing audience.
I dearly hope squash Australia make these DVDs available in their library, because the current range is well below the tin.
Because our sport does not rate. I dont have a real clear understanding of what the "obligations" of the host broadcaster are... but is it Channel 9 we blame for not exposing the sport?? or is it Squash Australia for now working with channel 9 to ensure decent exposure.
We are DAMN lucky in this country for the sport we STILL get free to air. We can hardly complain about any of our networks overall coverage of sport. Sure we miss some stuff that is free to air... but try being a Pom..
As a squash fan I was fully aware that Fox was the place the coverage would be... and I think even if you dont have fox you could have found someone surely that does to tape it??

Could not agree more.
Having the game buried in 2 layers of pay tv renders it invisible to the people it should be trying to reach - the public at large.

Well...... no, why ?
Because you had to purchase the squash coverage on top of foxtel, therefore NOBODY I know had the squash to tape.
It was not just buried once in foxtel it was buried twice !
