Good for the kids, they enjoy it. I personally dont get thrilled about it but you do it for your kids. Call me when your kid is in the NHL. |

Peter Zezel was a great soccer player. Came in handy during face offs, remember how many times he would spin in the face off circle and kick the puck back to the defenceman. |

You wonder why there are very few adult leagues like hockey and
baseball. The reason is adults have a brain and are not force to play this stupid sport. |

Lots of adult leagues but you have to be somewhat of an athlete to play unlike your beer league crap dumbo! Go back and drink your beer and eat your bag of chips and dream of being able to actually run 30 yards! |

I think people sometimes confuse athletic ability with conditioning. Sports such as golf, baseball, cricket, etc may not be a sport that requires great cardio conditioning but it does require very good athletic skills. Sports such as hockey (ice and ball), soccer, lacrosse, triathalons etc are athletic sports that also require great cardio. All sports (yes even baseball) have great athletes. |

My son plays soccer in the summer.
His cardio conditioning transfers to hockey in August.
Kids come into hockey training camp in August expecting to get in shape for winter hockey.
My son's soccer cardio conditioning has him ahead of the hockey pack as they run for miles and miles everyday.
At the finish line-he's ready to keep going, while others are collapsing around him.
Soccer sucks, yah right....but it makes you stronger, faster, and stronger.
To the fool who started this thread...love to have our sons compete in a five mile race one day.

It may get you in shape breathing in all that smog in 35c humid weather while exerting yourself, but it sure is one boring ass sport to watch. It rates right up there with TV poker and bowling on TV. The fans in Europe all have to get drunk and riot because they are bored out of their skulls. How many fans are the new Toronto team,(whatever their called) getting as compared to the Jays in baseball. You live in the wrong country if you think soccer rules! |

Saying soccer is a great sport because your son gets in shape is missing the point and not serving a purpose. Your son can get in shape by running around the block until he collapes. There are many ways to get in shape and just because someone participates in golf, bowling, baseball, cricket, darts etc doesn't mean they don't do other activities that get them in shape. Now if you want to say soccer is a great sport because of the creative playmaking or chess like strategy that is another story but doen't say it is a great sport just because you get to run. |

I am a golfer and although being an athlete aids being a good golfer it doesn't mean great golfers are athletes. Many tour players have phenomenal hand eye coordination but that doesn't make them athletes and the same is true of ball players. If you need pinch runners for pro players than they certainly aren't great athletes. Big difference in athleticism between the sports. Soccer and tennis have the best conditioned athletes in the world bar none. Let's see Frank Thomas run for three to five tennis sets like the best men and women. |

The problem with soccer, is that you have to re-program the kids back to hockey! As soon as they start playing hockey again, they want to kick the puck all the time, instead of using the stick and the body to get the puck. Soccer players will always get beat one on one. They attack flat footed, when you are coming at full speed. As for being in great condition, maybe if you want to run 5 miles in a game, but in hockey, when do you ever skate for 60 minutes, without taking a break? So how does it condition you for quick 60 second battles for the puck, when you are conditioned to go in slow motion? The best summer, conditioning sport for hockey is simple! JUST PLAY MORE HOCKEY! That will keep you in game shape for 12 months of the year! |

cslsoccer.com
CENTRAL SOCCER LEAGUE (CSL)- GTHL/OMHA Equivalent
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE LEAGUE SHALL BE TO PROVIDE A LEVEL 3 AND LEVEL 4 LEAGUE FOR ALL COMPETITIVE YOUTH AGE GROUPS AS DEFINED BY THE OSA FOR TEAMS IN THE AREAS GOVERNED BY THE FOLLOWING DISTRICTS: DURHAM REGION SOCCER ASSOCIATION, TORONTO SOCCER ASSOCIATION, NORTH YORK SOCCER ASSOCIATION, SCARBOROUGH SOCCER ASSOCIATION, YORK REGION SOCCER ASSOCIATION AND HURONIA & DISTRICT SOCCER ASSOCIATION AS AUTHORIZED AND BASED ON THE TERMS OF LEAGUE OPERATIONS APPROVED BY THE CENTRAL REGION LEAGUE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.
This year only eight 1996 teams are to be selected from six districts to form the AAA equivalent soccer division of the Central Soccer League (CSL), (Level 3) as it is called, which starts at U12 - 1995s currently. Only the top 8 teams in 6 regions qualify based on their standings in their respective leagues. At the end of the U12 Level 3 year, the bottom 2 teams will drop to Level 4 to be replaced by the top 2 of Level 4. There are many AAA and AA hockey players in various leagues contending for the 8, Level 3 qualifying spots, and the season is in full swing.
The CSL intent is to design REAL competition and the selection is based on merit. Come September my boy will return to the GTHL, after having forgotten all about hockey, and refreshed ... and the following he'll be back playing soccer in a sane league.

Soccer is not boring at all. If you think it's boring it's because you have no understanding of the tactics, play making or overall strategies in the game, let alone the skills and stamina required. The diving and acting does bother me but that seems to much more prevalent on the European mainland. Premier league rules.

Soccer LOL
you kick a ball into a gigantic net.
The only strategy is how to share 1 ball amongst 22 players.
Why do the goalies where puffy gloves?
Why is the net so damn big?
If they get injured so much, why don't they where more padding?
Soccer LOL |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: SoccerNo score for this post | July 30 2008, 4:44 PM |
If they shrunk the field and the nets and added contact
then we would have a sport. I'd rather watch paint dry
than a soccer game on TV or live. But at least it has
constant movement unlike a 3 hour long football game that
has a total of 8 minutes of actual plays. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: SoccerNo score for this post | July 30 2008, 4:46 PM |
The biggest dilemma facing soccer is whether to move the penalty kick dot back 2 feet to an astonishing 14 feet? or to let the goalie add padding to his gloves?
tough call

All this talk of cake is making me hungry.
Why don't you send your wife into the kitchen in the basement. Have her whip us up a nice meal (too much $$ to eat out). We can then sit on your old couch (new ones too much $$) and watch your rabbit ear TV (cable too much $$) and sip on your homemade vino ($7.95 too much at the store and why support the economy that brought you here). We can then watch the kids play Bocci in the yard (real toys too much $$ and bocci balls last for generations).
Sound fun?

20% of society is responsible for 80% of the total money earned
80% of society is responsible for 20% of the total money earned
It is safe to say thay the 20% are the more intelligent humans
While it is also safe to say that the 80% are the non-intelligent humans
80% of the world loves soccer
20% of the world loves baseball, lacrosse and hockey
Coincidence? I think not.
Soccer gears to the commoners that represent 80% of society. It is a game that takes little skill, little money to play and little intelligence to follow.
Lacrosee, hockey, football and baseball gear toward the 20% of intelligent people in society. They are games of incredible skill, hand-eye coordination and complex rules and strategies.
This also explains why soccer parents have to pack coolers to watch their kids play and why the other sports have concession stands where you actually have to open your wallett and spend some money to contribute to the overall economy of our great country...CANADA!!
And do us all a big favor. Fly the Canadian flag on one side of your car when the soccer games are on. You are Canadian...are you not? And have probably never even been to Europe and the country of the flag that is on your Honda with the blue neon light underneath.

2) Any expensive city in the world has more slums than one could imagine. The cost to live in a city and soccer have absolutley nothing to do with each other. Please see Perato's principle. 20% of the people in London have 80% of the money. The rest are bums.
