Apparently the team with lots of AA wannabees. Though I will admit that they have a couple of kids that can put the puck in the net, the problem here appears to be keeping it out of the net.
Has this team found a goalie? Or are they going to move forward with what they have?

I was very surprised with the amount of verbiage posted by Hornets parents after the Beaches Tournament. Everyone was so proud of their achievement, after all they should have been since the Hornets were able to make the playoff consolation with a 0-3 record.
Since the bashing that occurred in that thread the Hornets are more like a nest after a bout with a can of RAID. I guess many years of finishing the MA AA loop in last builds a sort of complacency.

You think so? I know a few parents and prior to the Beaches tournament they appeared to realize that this would be a challenging season. After the Beaches their egos were slightly boosted and expectations went through the roof.So if anything is going to create a Kaboom situation then I would think this false optimism would. Team might need to do a bit of soul searching after the Early Birds.

The first year Hornets are always a group of deluded parents who think their kids should be in AA. If he/she were any good he would have made one of the more established teams. Hornets are expensive but it gives dad the right to say his kid plays AA. See previous years of disasters.

Yes the Tigers had a disaster team in 05/06 but they recovered well the following year and ended up in 4th. But that is just one season. You have many more to choose from.

This is because they lack talent at the coaching level thus they can't attract kids, it becomes a vicious circle. Also very expensive for little return.

That 1400 doesn't include pants jackets golf tourney banquet hockey pool and various other fundraisers. Must be the owner trying to low ball to make it look good,

outdoor practice and share the sheet of ice with the Tigers.... JUST A JOKE TIGERS, We have been fortunate to keep our team budget lower than expected by wheeling and dealing with ice slots, cutting all extra costs.

So it appears that you have a lot of hidden costs to deal with. What is the final total when you consider your GTHL registration, team fees and other fees that the organization is throwing on top? Also, is there an expectation of fund-raising? Some teams decide to forego the fundraising and just have the parents pay for the entire shot. Seems like a lot of money but when you consider the amount of time and effort to do the fundraising, sometimes it is just easier to pay.

The total is $1000 to the Org. and $1200 team budget ($2200 TOTAL). That includes Pants, 2 jerseys, bag, 2 socks, jacket, 2 practices per week and 5 tournaments. There is a hockey pool you have to sell tickets for and a dance you have to sell 4 tickets to (you and another couple). Any team fund raising would reduce the costs. As far as I know - 99% of org's have a dance that require parents to sell tickets to. Some make you sell a whole table. The pool is unique to the Hornets and you are required to sell 7 $20 tickets of that you get a $70 credit towards your registration.
You can talk about the track record of the league (crappy previous teams) etc... but to call the organization a rip off is a bit unfair. The Huskies, Royals, Ice Dogs are all more expensive (And that's just the teams I know about). $2200 is about a middle of the road cost.

I have a lot of friends on the Hornets and like everyone here I wish the best to them also. I think the parents have put things in perspective hence anything above 14th will be viewed as an accomplishment. It is all about development and if they develop quick then who knows.

You are obviously one that feels this team will be in playoff contention. If it happens then great, but until you see some of the competition, and I would recommend at the Mississauga Early Bird you take a look at some of the other teams and re-think. I am going to be doing the same thing.

As a former Erindale parent who knows some of the parents on this team I can add this:
The tournament went KABOOM!!!! There are a couple of MAJOR problems with this team.
1) The goal-tending is awful. This is something that I don't see them fixing. THey have 2 goalies and both are house-league -'A' material. If they can't fix it then they will be 14th for sure.
2) Parent coaches with no experience. Just because you play mens league hockey, and played minor hockey doesn't mean you're qualified to teach children how to play. This is shown in the complete lack of intensity in the games as well as the 3 minute shifts and poor positional play.
The one thing the Hornets have going for them is their talent pool is similar to the mid pack teams. But with the really poor goal tending and below average coaching these kids are going to be mentally crushed by early November. If you gave them quality coaching and a good goalie I'd be surprised if they finished less than 7th place. The problem is they're missing both.
I really hope they can turn things around.

Hey 5:18.....There is no misery here. It's all good. One tourney game doesn't warrant a comment like that. Worry about your own team and stop slamming others...it is not nice.

That is absolutely untrue...(about the hitting comment). Clean hitting is allowed in minor hockey. Take a look at some other teams and then make your judgement. You have no right to make asumptions. Nobody wants kids to get hurt!!

hey 1:18...you can't judge and make comments on a team when the real season hasn't even started...a summer tournament (with many kids away on vacation) is hardly a barometer of how the Hornets play or of things to come.....and futhermore there is nothing wrong with asst. parent coaches...don't all teams have them?

Hey 1:18pm Why do you care about this team? It is ok to make comments and predictions but when you trash kids to make your point you have gone too far. You sound just like the moron who is on all the Tiger sites. They cut your kid too?

Of course, it's always the goalies fault. Never a forward that refuses to come into his own zone to help or a defenseman swatting at the puck instead of taking a player. It's a team game as evidenced by the Ruskies mailing it in last night. 8 goals, must be a weak goalie. Go back to bed moron.
