98 AAA GTHL Rankings

Now that the Marlie Tournament has passed, let's start a new thread. This is not a prediction of how teams will finish; only a ranking of how teams stand now, based primarily on the last couple of tournaments and a few exhibition games. Like the NCAA rankings, the order will change as the season progresses. Some teams will get better and some will not. [For example, the Young Nats get ranked so low because they have not proven themselves yet. They may be better than ninth.] Disagreements and comments are welcomed, but let's keep it constructive rather than abusive.

1. Toronto Jr. Canadiens
2. Toronto Marlboros
3. Mississauga Reps
4. Markham Majors
5. Vaughan Kings
6. Toronto Red Wings
7. Toronto Titans
8. Don Mills Flyers
9. Toronto Young Nats
10. Mississauga Rebels
11. North York Rangers

who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lets rank these teams at the end of the season.......playoffs.....in the meantime, let the kids play and have fun. Let me tell you, these kids are only 9 years old. And for those pyscho parents out there stay out of the arena's, we really don't want to hear your comments or try to coach the team on the stands......So relax this season, and enjoy watching the games. It's embarrassing for the kids to hear their parents scream and yell from the stands. You're only confusing them. Let the coaches do their job, it will only make things easier for them.

First of all, it is spelled "psycho". Second of all, everyone knows the kids are "nine years old". Third, 8:54, a little discussion without bashing is harmless and fun, and NOT indicative of psychotic tendancies. We are placing our "nine year olds" in a competitive league, where teams win and lose, and teaching them that this matters, to some extent. (Otherwise, why not just have them play without keeping track of the score?) So instead of moralizing and pretending you are holier than thou, leave us to our discussion.

lol, good comeback. Its obvious that you must sit at your computer day in, and day out on Network54. I heard about this site recently, and I truly have to say that this is the most outrageous site that I have ever come across. You should definitely really consider to take on some other hobby than Network54 and concentrate on your child more often, than to worry what the daily gossip is on this site. Better yet read a magazine, a book, have a glass of wine and enjoy the night.

"When you're perfect in every way"

Mac Davis lyrics:

Oh Lord It`s Hard To Be HumbleOh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way.
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better loking each day.
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can.
I used to have a girlfriend
but she just couldn't compete
with all of these love starved women
who keep clamoring at my feet.
Well I prob'ly could find me another
but I guess they're all in awe of me.
Who cares, I never get lonesome
cause I treasure my own company.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way,
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can.
I guess you could say I'm a loner,
a cowboy outlaw tough and proud.
I could have lots of friends if I want to
but then I wouldn't stand out from the crowd.
Some folks say that I'm egotistical.
Hell, I don't even know what that means.
I guess it has something to do with the way that I
fill out my skin tight blue jeans.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
when you're perfect in every way,
I can't wait to look in the mirror
cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man.
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
but I'm doing the best that I can.
We're doing the best that we can

I don't think you guys are giving JRCs enough credit for their performance on the weekend. They beat the Marlies twice and you have the Marlies ahead of JRC? What have the Marlies done to deserve such honour? With their size, I can only see the JRCs benefitting from hitting once the season starts. I agree that they should be concerned about discipline but if that is the only knock against them it isn't much of a knock.

JRC have a good team, I will give them thier due. But this weekends performance means nothing. other than the Marlies, who else did they beat that was of any significance.... the Rebels, buffalo regals, kings... come on people give your head a shake. They will be a top three team, what is wrong with that.. apparently if your not ranked #1, 9 months before the season ends everyone goes cukoo. If you are going to rank, rank based on groupings, here it is,

top three: JRC, Marlies Reps ( no specific order)

4 - 8: Markham, kings, titans, red wings, DMF ( no specific order)

out of playoffs: Rebels, NY rangers, young nats ( only because they are a mystery)

They also beat LJK, not that that in and of itself is a major accomplishment, other than the LJK also beat the TM.

As for the poster who suggested some teams will fade because they have the advantage of playing together longer...the TM, Reps, and JRC all had spring teams of some sort...so did the TT, Nats, and there may be others...but none, please correct me if I am wrong, had their entire team together during the spring?

Remember, no team is developing in a vacuumn. All will get better. None will get worse. The Marlie tournament is just a gage of where the teams are right now...but putting all the pieces together I doubt the top 3 will change much. I think the VK and DMF will improve the most, followed by the Rebels.

Here's how it is going to play out...
TM
JRC
MR
VK
MM
DMF
TT
Nats
TRW
Rebels
NYR

Why don't we just leave it up to the season to create rankings. Go to the GTHL website periodically and check out the standings. Then, in the end, the standings will be there and be true standings. Stop creating pressure on the kids and the coaches. It is not fair, if you all had a grape for a brain and not a raisin you would realize how lucky you are to have such a great group of talented kids to watch all season. It is going to be a great season!! So sit back, relax and enjoy.

Stop trying to be so rational.

The TM are ranked ahead of the JRC because once SC starts to get pressure to win (from MC and JN) he will shorten the bench and go with 6 and 3.

no way they will compete at a high level with 6 & 3. If 1 d gets into penalty trouble then what do you do.
Why would you sign 15 skaters if you are going to go with 10 when things get into tournaments and playoffs. You are better off to practice what you are going to do later in the year so you can make adjustments.

Not saying VK will be great BUT they were 1-3-1 in the tournament and the three losses were to JRCs, Reps and Majors. So the tournament record is not necessarily a good indication of where they are going. Played a good game against JRCs, not so good against Reps and Majors. They will be competitive but inconsistent. I think 5th place is a reasonable possibility. Anything higher is, at this time, wishful thinking.

Here is a summary of posts prior to last weekend's tournament;

JRC - too slow
JRC = too many penalties...because they are too slow and undisciplined
JRC = too big (and slow)
JRC = poor coaching
JRC = too many coaches

Have I missed any?

Now they beat LJK, Marlies twice, VK, and spank Halton some people have them at #1.

Does this now mean that;

JRC = fast
JRC = disciplined
JRC = fast and big
JRC = good coaching

Small point, but I don't recall anyone saying "too many coaches" prior to the tournament. Otherwise you are right that much criticism was levelled at JRCs. I must caution you, however, not to get over-confident as a result of one successful tournament. A long season awaits...

And, yeah, what happened to Coach CL?

Hummm...I guess I did miss one.

As it turns out, and if you were at the tournament, and if you know MY, you know that the lines rolled. Each line contributed equally and I didn't see a weak link throughout the lineup. D used a 5 man equal rotation. I was watching all of this carefully. Trust me.

As for the $...can't say, but I heard registration was $3500. True, that is a lot, but not out of line for AAA.

You are a wanker.
Anyone who watched their games knows that comment is 100% false.
Even the Marlies seemed to roll the lines in the finals.

JRCs did not shorten the bench in the game I saw them play. However, anyone who believes MY will not shorten the bench is being misled. He has done it before and he will do it again.

All this noise from the parents about an excellent tournament (Run by an excellent organization) Who's better, Marlies, JRC, Reps, Markham?
Who's an idiot? coaches, players, parents ... did you see the short bench, long bench, they paid how much ... blah blah blah. I better not spell something wrong here or I will get nailed to the cross ...

I witnessed something that I never really saw much of in Novice. I saw a bunch of kids, who played excellent hockey, saw great passing, great goaltending, and some lucky and unlucky bounces. But most of all, win, lose or draw .. after the games, the kids who lost, were still friends with the kids who won ... and visa versa - remember that.

The Marlies have depth, they have coaching and they have a good squad .. they will improve .. they need to play a bit more as a team, carry the puck less and most important don't carry it out of their end ... this was frustrating in all games.

The JRC's play well, they are faster than expected, (maybe even fastest) they really want the puck and fight for it, they backcheck, they are big and when hitting comes, if they focus on their game and only hit when required, wow they will be good. Of course as long as they will stay out of the box for dumb penalties. The coaching .. well they rolled the lines, they went 7-0 and MY seems to have out coached them all, at least for now, congrats.

The Reps, on paper, great team, lots of players who are strong .. they have probably the biggest skilled player in the G, but, they were not a finalist team and that says something. (Like maybe they had a bad game) If this team plays as a team instead of a bunch of individuals, they will be a frustrating team to play against. If they do not finish in the top 3, it will not be for a lack of talent.

Markham, geez .. when the going gets tough, the tough have to get going .. and that is the basic theory they have to overcome.

So I say .. let the season begin ..

It's not a criticism to say a coach will shorten the bench. It's just a fact. It's a coach's right to do that. Just don't be fooled into thinking you have an "equal opportunity" coach.

Haven't seen it yet.
Guess you don't have to shorten when you aren't losing.

True. His teams haven't always been winning ones...
