Well, I am glad that N54 can get back to its regular old self.

The Mississauga Early Bird is over and the West teams were embarrassed by two A teams. The Braves had only one tie and looked lost throughout the tourney.

The Jets put on several great games and almost (a controversial goal disallowed) beat the eventual tourney winner.

The East teams seemed to be stronger with two teams advancing into the semis and an east team winning.

But really, how watered down is the WestAA with big teams losing to Erinadale A and Oakville A. This is the big question.

They should cut the number of AA teams and let the stronger A teams come up and compete and win against the AA loop.

This is wrong, there are several threads stating the ICE Dogs will win it all. Can they all be wrong?

That would be Cujo, learn how to spell.

And stop bashing the goalies. A forward makes a mistake or gets outplayed and its no big deal. Go ahead, be the parent of a goalie and see if you will ever mention CUJO again.

834, I agree. Problem is that in the Clancy, only the top FOUR make it through to the playoff round

preseason rankings

No score for this post
September 13 2008, 2:14 PM

With the earlybirds almost in the books, here are my rankings going into the season next week. Don't take these too seriously: I'm no scout, but I have seen almost all teams play at least one game.

1/2. -- I have Terriers and Braves as top 2, with ranking depending on finish tomorrow. Both have recruited well (from WM and elsewhere) and have best depth
3. Royals -- higher if Royals beat Terriers tomorrow, which they haven't over the past 2 years. Looks like they've recruited well to make up for players lost to AAA. Don't have consistency to win the loop, but they can beat anyone
4. Jets -- same team as last year's very consistent squad. But, they still seem a notch below MB and MT. It will be interesting to see if they can improve
5. Panthers -- small, but quite fast. They showed quite strong in Vaughan EB. They will be a playoff team, but I don't see them higher than 5th
6. Sharks -- don't be fooled by lackluster performance at MEB. They did the same last year and still had a strong season. Scoring will be an issue against top 8 teams
7. Streetsville -- saw enough in tie vs. Royals to have them a midpack (and playoff) team in the loop
8. North Stars -- have improved on offense but may take a while to come together. I'd be surprised if they didn't make the playoffs
9. Eagles -- hardworking team, but do not look to have improved significantly
10. Huskies -- dangerous team with a couple of game breakers, but a bit slow and will struggle against top teams
11. West Mall -- have been competitive in most games at 2 EBs, but seem a step behind most teams
12. Rangers -- looked okay in terms of talent and size at EB
13. Toros -- new squad with some talent and grit, but a work in progress
14. Ice Dogs -- like Toros, a gritty team, but I don't see much of an upgrade from last year.
15. Canucks -- actually looked to have improved form last season the one game I saw, but still bottom dwellers, I'm afraid.

Definitely more parity this year with WM juggernaut gone. Looks like another competitive season in the West.
