coaching changes from year to year. But Miss Braves are the best priced org. $650 incl. bag, pants, gloves. Best by far. They usually are competitive too. |

Exactly - most of the organizations are the same - key is coach, and then need to evaluate players, arena location and on down the line....you find a really good coach, stick to him like glue! |

NYK- totally non profit even clothing, they don't ask you to purchase anything unless a team buy if you want
good value for your $$$$ |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | December 13 2007, 6:20 PM |
And with the 98 NYK's you even get a guaranteed championship because all the other teams stink so you will go undefeated and win the east until of course you meet the west and get clobbered! |

NT of course. Everyone wants in...only those lucky enough get in. But you have to buy a new BMW/Mercedes/Lexus to be on the team. Not quite the same value as the Braves. |

You must have a certain postal code to play at North Toronto in the early years. They only take from their own program. It works well in the first few years, then kids move to AAA, and there is no backfill. People know it is a closed system, so no one tries out in the older grades.
When the hockey gets tougher, the kids quit or go to a more physical team. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | December 14 2007, 11:59 AM |
does the same thing hold for their "AA / A" teams? (ie. they don't really hold tryouts, they move kids up from A to AA and from Select to A) |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | December 14 2007, 12:05 PM |
The A system is new, but I know when my boys started out I was told not to bother trying out, because the team was picked.
I had no idea, I thought it was like in high school, that if a new kid showed up who was better, there goes your spot.

RE: ST
Costs too much compared to which other teams?
Saying coaches suck is a little harsh, if they show up for games and practices then at least you know they are there for your kids. What happens on the ice is another story.
Every team has a few parents that are considered crazy. The challenge is not letting their opinions take hold of the sane ones.
Milfs, this is just a classless statement. Are you there for your kids or yourself? |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | January 23 2008, 1:19 PM |
Milfs, a term typically used by LTWNGA.....Loser that will never get any. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | January 23 2008, 2:00 PM |
I also agree ST sucks...hit you with all their hidden fees...typically no plan or timetable re their incoming MA coaches, consequently teams are always in turmoil. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | January 23 2008, 2:42 PM |
I don't think ST has a MA coach for next year yet or do they? |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | January 23 2008, 2:51 PM |
Kidding me...same old, same old - wait until the cupboard is bare and then scramble for a coach and team.
Given the location, this team should/would be front and centre on any good coaches list, but these guys dither until it is obviously too late. Good on them. |

A lot of recruiting being done at ER for the MA team. Parents be cautious. Just a warning. |

NYK - Best value for money and solid organization... 17 teams in GTHL - last yr all of them made the playoffs, 8 went to the finals, 4 won the East division, 3 won the cross-over city finals. |

Georgetown ....if you're in the clic and your kid is houseleague calibre. Georgetown has a reputation that coaches kids are always the weakest on the roster with a lot of ice time.
True story. (back up : they never won anything) |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA Organization is GeorgetownNo score for this post | May 10 2008, 11:56 AM |
depends on where you live, what your child's skill level is, whether you (and/or your kid) want to be on a winning team vs developping your kid's skills (or both), the coach, etc. it's all about balancing all these things.
prioritise and then go for it... |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | May 25 2008, 11:32 AM |
Just ask them they tell you how wonderful they all are and how long they have been working with kids, what they wont tell you is how they screw kids over because their parents wont bow down to them. The Tigers need a change, fresh blood who believe hockey is for the kids and not their egos. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | May 25 2008, 11:44 AM |
Because we as parents let them. When you don't like the service in a restuarant you tell someone. When you bring an issue it to minor hockey exs they black ball your kid or tell you it never happened and you should remember they are their for your kids |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | May 25 2008, 11:46 AM |
It actually makes me sick and we go back to the old saying you cannot trust anyone in hockey and have to look out for your own kid, sad.
Some coaches do seem very sincere but I guess its about filling that roster all the time. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | May 25 2008, 12:37 PM |
Aagin sounds like all the other orgs. in the GTHL. They're all in it for your kids. Yeah right! All you can worry about is your own individual team, and how things are shaping up there. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | May 25 2008, 12:39 PM |
11:46. Why is it sad you have to look after your own kid. Who do you want to look after him? |
|

11:46. Why is it sad you have to look after your own kid. Who do you want to look after him?
I didn't mean I expect anyone to look after my kid (if you re-read my post) what I meant was you cannot let your guard down and believe anything coaches tell you and that is sad.
There is no loyalty in hockey anywhere or any organization...they are all the same, its all up to the coach your child plays for bottom line.
Its not necessarily whats best for your child they (coaches) usually have an ulterior motive on their part meaning they are out to fill the best roster they can and if that means telling you what you want to hear so be it. Don't look for any friendships to be made, lasting ones anyway.

We had a coach that used a family for babysitting all the time for the entire season, then he cut the kid loose. |

So why did they babysit? Hoping it would secure their kid a spot for next year. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | May 25 2008, 4:30 PM |
No it was an example of you can't trust anyone. The coach should have been honest and told his so call friends that they would not be invited back. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | May 25 2008, 4:32 PM |

terribly slimely, but lots of slimely things happen for personal reasons in this sport, I learnt the very hard way. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: Best AA OrganizationNo score for this post | May 25 2008, 5:24 PM |
All those people had to say was no. If you do things out of the goodness of your heart that's one thing. If your doing it to get things then that's slimey as well. |
