Kick save by the goalie offers instruction 1 on 1 or in practices real good for 12 and under also offers video assesment and independent evaluation. Has my son loving being a goalie and improving weekly.

Elkins in best at technical instruction. My son always comes out of a week spent there looking so much more confident. Summer program excellent but costly. Unfortunately, since they've gotten big, they've developed a bit of a 'snob' syndrom. Maybe they'll read this and make the appropriate corrections. But there must be a good reason that kids come from all over the world to attend the programs in the summer.

As for Lianne's daughter, I sincerely hope it was a player posting about how she's eye-candy, and not an adult (ew)....if she's 15, I'd be surprized.

my son loves it there but i agree that in the past 2 or 3 years they have faltered as it applies to working with people regarding schedules, getting information, etc, etc.
one of the reasons it attracts people from all over the world is that he and his instructors are good, another reason is due to premium pricing.

Premium pricing is the strategy of consistently pricing at, or near, the high end of the possible price range to help attract status-conscious consumers. A few examples of companies which partake in premium pricing in the marketplace include Rolex and Bentley. People will buy a premium priced product because:

They believe the high price is an indication of good quality;
They believe it to be a sign of self worth - "They are worth it" - It authenticates their success and status - It is a signal to others that they are a member of an exclusive group; and

I have been sending my son to Saves Goaltending Academy of Excellence (near Chesswood Arena)for almost 7 years. He has turned into a great AA goalie and I credit them with providing him with the right skills and techniques. Speak to Brad the owner. He will sit down with you and build a plan out for your son. The only things is that most of the instruction is on plastic ice, which I have never had an issue with but some people do. They also do direct to practice sessions and clinics on real ice over Easter, Summer and Christmas. They know their stuff and make it fun for the boys. Last but not least, teach traditional goaltending with modern updates. They do not rely on butterflies like most other schools today. They teach your kid to play like Martin Brodeaur who is a hybrid goalie. Good luck to you and your son.

Son has been to both Elkin and Greco. He prefers Greco. Excellent training and communication with the kids. From a parent standpoint, we like both, however, we like Greco's approach- small class sizes and excellent follow up.

Liane at Elkin is probably one of the nicest people I have met in a longtime. Her customer service has been outstanding and she always finds a way to accommodate. The school is very busy so availability is always an issue but that is not her fault. As far as her daughter ...... she is just a child and if you are looking at a 16 year old as eye candy I really hope that you have a daughter and get the chance to have a man address her.

Elkin's is prob. the best. There is a reason they are the biggest going in the "hockey hotbed" of Canada.

Whoever said Ron Mays actually needs to try taking their kid to him. If there was anyway I could get my money back I would. I got suckered big time by his "train with an OHL goalie coach" tag line. Should be pay for an hour, while your kid trains with an OHL goalie coach for 15 mins and 7 of those 15 mins are spent listening to him pump his book sales. Total waste of time.

Crease not bad, but facility sucks. Once you have gone a couple of times, you have learned as much as they have to teach on that surface. Might be worth having them out to your practice, if you can get Boo.

Varsity program is pretty good, if you get a night when Mike Torchia is a) there and b) willing to stay on the ice the whole time. Quality of instruction really drops off after him.

Agreed about the above on Lonsdale, although I wouldn't say great with older kids, but def. much better at dealing with the older than the younger. If your kid is 12 or under, Scotty is not the coach you want. Also we had trouble due to the skill level (AA). Older A level would be his place.

Goaltending is an art. You either have it or you don't. It can be refined and tweaked, but it cannot be taught. Any true value would be in critiquing game situations.

very true !

there are goalies and kids who are trying to be goalies. The good ones act on instinct and without thinking, the kids who try to be goalies will have think about and are much slower and weaker.

Its the same difference between game goalies and tryout goalies.

If you do not have some natural ability, all the goalie training in the world will not help you.

If you do have some natural talent or ability, you need to have quality consistant intruction to improve & refine your game.

Franco Canadian's Saturday night clinics are a waste of time, to many goalies on the ice and by the time you have a flood, strech at the start & the end of the session & with 3 goalies per net you are lucky if you get 15 minutes of actual instruction, all for $60.00

tough enough that most parents never played the game, let alone rep but want to have their say....and then add goalkeeping to the mix......I would NOT want to be a kid in Maple wantin
