I personally think it should go to SS as he has a great plan that would certainly help to develope the kids.
And Whitby parent - you just made it past us so watch out for Kingston |

you should probably ask him but the basis is through his Asst Coach who has coached/developed many NHL's and Jr hockey players through the Marlies system. His skill set will put the kids in line in regards to heart, skill set and systems that 11year old AA players need. |

The ass't coach you speak of has made numerous promises over the years to help out in various capacities and everytime has backed out. He cannot be counted on. As for SS, nice guy, but no hockey background. |

As long as the PHA gives him the chance. He is fully committed and has the support and commitment of any family that makes the team again. It's insane to let him go with the staff that he has lined up for his bench. |

Considering they had a split team, beating Newmarket in the finals must not add add to much.
Alas remember they were 7 years old at the time and they weren't quite ready to learn the power play or the re-group breakout.
if you talked to his parents from that team, they will tell you the kids had a blast, and learned how to compete. |

|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 20 2008, 12:27 PM |
Scared??!! Bit of an overstatement I think. Whoever is picked will be the right person for the position of those that applied. It's obvious that the PHA is concerned about placing the best coach in there by the fact that they are still going over info before an annoucement. Give them a bit of credit. You may not understand, but the people picking the coaches know what they are doing. (But certainly not as much as you parents, right?) |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 20 2008, 12:37 PM |
Easy now. This is a good group of kids and parents. Practically the only team out there not bashing each other and their coach on this forum. To be concerned about who will lead the team next year is natural. Parents supported SS and are disappointed that he isn't being given a chance. None of these posts were rude or arrogant - just concerned. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 20 2008, 12:48 PM |
As one of the parents I would agree with the last posting. We only want the best for our kids and I can hear/see the turmoil this non decision is causing to the point where some are wondering if and where they should move their kids next year. We had heard SS plans and were pleased at the help he is going to receive to improve the team. SS may not have all the skills required but took the necessary steps to make up for this. Losing this asset would be detrimental as this could all blow up in PHA's face if its not dealt with soon. |

|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 20 2008, 8:15 PM |
What you don't understand is that the big recruit he tells everyone he has coming with him will not pan out. T.M. is all talk and no action. He has done this a number of times in the past and each time has not lived up to his word. If he is so committed this time, why didn't he apply? Listen, SS is a nice guy, with good intentions. But most of what he says is the real estate man in him coming out. These kids need a hockey guy to take them to the next level. Not sure if such a guy is even available. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 20 2008, 8:32 PM |
Your statement is completely and utterly untrue. The only ones suffering from these ridiculous 'politics' are the kids. SS and TM could do wonders for this team. Bottom line. |

Hey, Mr hockey 8:15 looks like there is not a long line of people willing to sacrifice there time to coach this team, so if SS is willing why not give him a chance. SS will get guys who are hockey people to help him out all year. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 20 2008, 11:24 PM |
What about that guy from outside the organization? |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 21 2008, 8:32 AM |
Why would you bring someone in from outside rather than someone who has known the kids and parents from the beginning? Someone who has done his homework on the team already. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 21 2008, 8:39 AM |
Who are you referring to 'outside the organization'?
The PHA is in danger of losing a few from this team if they don't make the decision that is right for the team not the executive committee. |
|
1234 (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 21 2008, 11:44 AM |
I think part of what the parents are afraid of on this team is that the PHA will choose a coach that will come in and make the necessary player changes that need to be made. If they do, there will be some surprised parents. Ultimately this is what is best for the kids. Maybe this played a factor into SS not getting the team. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 21 2008, 12:12 PM |
Interesting post - if you'd actually done your research you would know that he was prepared to make those changes. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 21 2008, 12:19 PM |
So because you are mistakenly afraid SS won't cut the ones that need to go, you would sacrifice losing the better kids because the PHA won't make a decision? |
|
1234 (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 21 2008, 12:39 PM |
Absolutely not, I 100% agree with you that the PHA must make a decision. You would not want to lose the better players. However, maybe the PHA felt that the kids of those people that applied for the job are borderline players, including SS's. Do you know if they had a lot of people apply? |

Annonymous (Login dman97) | Pickering 97 AANo score for this post | March 27 2008, 11:52 AM |
This is a good bunch of boys and a good group of parents. SS would be an ideal coach because of his demeanor, his patience and his familiarity with the boys. their families and their ability levels. The Tyke Select Blue Team's winning of the consolation is a great example of his ability to motivate and get the most of his players. Most of the boys on that Newmarket team now play for the YSE AAA team. I think that SS deserves fair consideration for the coaching job. |

Don't speak for ALL of us in saying "SS has the full support of the parents" you might want to ask ALL the parents on this team before generalizing! The PHA know what they are doing and there are many factors that go into choosing a coach...not just his "plan" for the team. Think ppl it's not hard to see. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 21 2008, 4:21 PM |
Let me correct myself - the majority of the parents would like to see SS in the role. Sorry - did not mean any disrespect. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 21 2008, 4:37 PM |
not sure what makes you think the MAJORITY want to see SS in this role. If that's what you are hearing I suspect a lot of "two faced" conversations. However that doesn't surprise me. SS may be a good candidate ( I personally disagree...but Im not picking) but lets face it his son is questionable at best! As I stated before...there's more to picking a COACH than "plan" for the team. |

This is SS, and I have been watching this thread over the last couple of days with some mild interest. I appreciate the support, and respect the fact the PHA has to do thier homework before they can make the right decision for this team.
This thread so far has been one of natural curiosity from some parents and interested parties whom are using this forum to share information in a polite and acceptable manner.
However, I have to draw the line when kids have to be brought into the discussion.
As incorrectly stated earlier, my son KS is in no way at risk of not making this team, becasue if that was the case I would have never applied for the position.
KS is not currently in the top five of this team, but he does bring the intangiblies that some people overlook.
He is coachable,
he is driven,
he is a team player,
he is adaptable,
he has passion,
he has hockey smarts,
he plays physical ( much beyond his size )
and last but not least he has the competive edge that is required to win.
Is KS the fastest skater? no,
the hardest shooter? no
Does he give everything he has every shift? YES
So let's keep him out of this.
I am puzzled to think that a coach would not want a player with those attributes on his team, but for now it is not my choice to make.
In closing, changes for this team will have to be made, and the person given that responsibility will have to make alot of tough decisions, and I am comfortable knowing that if that trust is given to me I will do what is best for the entire team, and I also trust that whomever gets chosen will do the same.
This is my first and last time I am responding to anything in this thread, so all I ask, is that we keep the players name's out of these discussion's.
SS
Please keep the kids out of this dialogue. |

That is exactly the reason we'd like SS to head the team. Whoever brought up his son was way out of line and my guess is not a parent from this team. Someone trying to stir the pot. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 22 2008, 8:51 AM |
I support SS. I am not going to post my name as I don't like the way these forums end up talking about kids and I don't want my sons name on here.
If it really mattered to the PHA what the parents want, why wouldn't they put it to a vote? They don't have anyone else to put in the position. |

That's a pretty ignorant comment. What father wouldn't defend his son when someone (you) is throwing nasty comments around?
It's so obvious you are trying to slander SS. Whether or not you believe he is the right coach, cut it out with the personal crap. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 22 2008, 9:31 AM |
I can't even believe what I am reading on here! Listen to ALL of you, who in their right mind would even WANT to coach this team??? Listening to all of this crap is very telling in itself as to why this team doesn't have a coach.
News flash people....your kids are not going to the NHL, it's AA hockey for 11 year olds. They don't really care who coaches their team. All they care about is hotel rooms, mini sticks in the hallway and a great swimming pool! Getta grip and get the hell out of this forum! |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 22 2008, 9:40 AM |
Whoa - easy now. There is one person posting negative comments here that's it. These posts are all very supportive of a potential coaching candidate - that's it. He has our support strictly because of the fact that these kids are 11 and want to have a great experience. This is great group of both kids and parents who do not bash each other on here. The negative posts are coming from outside and everyone on here knows it. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 22 2008, 10:04 AM |
to 9:31....thank-you for the News flash...I must say, your genius in perspective is eye-opening. I had no idea that the NHL had scouted this team of 10 year olds and had made their decision. That said, it is a relief, now the team can focus on developing their skills and being the best that they can be....hopefully under the caring and respectful leadership of a parent from the team.
I guess what confuses me the most, is the fact that the PHA is not willing to put it to a vote. If they are concerned that it will become a popularity contest in some way, I would ask, how is that any different than the way the executives of the PHA are elected?
Let's face it, they have no more experience than your average hockey dad, yet for some reason it's assumed that they have some higher wisdom.

if you want to put the blame for this team not doing so well the past few years you can put it on th PHA.tell me why 6 -7 of our best kids are playing in the G ,they are there because they did not want to be here, and why is that?plain and simple, because of crap like this.its a trickle down effect, aaa gets weeker,aa in turn gets weeker ,so on and so on.keep in mind that 6 or 7 is at the aaa level alone.you finally have a great bunch of kids and parents that love to play for and support their home team, dont bugger this up too PHA. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 23 2008, 10:57 AM |
It's the PHA's fault the kids go to the G? Or AMHA, or RHML, BMHL, Oakville Minor etc?? Are you kidding me. They go because of parents "egos" "You cut my son you big bad hockey organization. I'm going to find my kid a team, no matter how lousy the team, just so I can show you that my kid should have that extra 'A' on his jacket." That's the number one reason these poor kids end up the the G and end up changing teams every couple of years when the parent wears out their welcome.
I love the person who wants the parents to vote for a coach. Now coaching the team, Mr. Popularity. Oh, does he know anything about coaching, I forgot to ask.
Parents be parents, let the real coaches, coach. It is a shame that in this instance, finding a qualified coach appears to be a problem. But that is probably why one has not yet been announced. |

Well, some people get pretty defensive...
Based on this thread - I'm sure we have all contacted the pha with our concerns and suggestions. There's a ton of history on this team. They had some success early then kids left. They more than likely would be playing AAA for the raiders. If not, that would mean one player stays - one player goes. Sounds like panic from a few over zealous people who see the rest of the world catching up. Get used to it. Stop this nonsense. The A coach may very well be what this team needs.

Anonymous (no login) | Re: Pickering 97AANo score for this post | March 23 2008, 7:57 PM |
Hey 6:12...
What do they accomplish when they leave...I'm curious? These kids are AA. What's at stake? If the coach is reasonable - isn't the rest up to the kid, mixed in with genetics, athleticism, god given talent, hard work, self determination, an attitude that can persevere (good coaches and bad - not to mention everything else) - oh, let's not forget damn lucky.
Did I mention this will get you to AAA - maybe the middle of the pack?
Am I missing something???

Really, if you aren't from this team why are you bothering posting on here. It has nothing to do with you. All of these parents get along as do all the kids. This forum was to discuss our kids coaching candidates for next year. The rest of you trying to stir the pot - get lost. There are plenty of other places for you to vent. |

Hey 10:47 that comment was not made by the A coach's wife, but be clear that this is the A coach writing this response now. I first heard about this website last night from a AA parent. Now I know why he encouraged me not to get on to see the comments being made. To Mr. 10:47 and the person that made the comment on March 17th at 12:48...if you guys have something to say negatively against me or my family, be man enough to come say it to my face. Cowards. It is sad to see that the only 2 guys (SS and the A coach) that were willing to devote their time and step-up and apply for the team are the individuals getting bashed.
