Apparently a lot were not happy. I think they are looking for at least 7. Shortened the bench a lot during the playoffs.

GH you're a joke. All your best players are gone, which means all you are left with is coaches kids, which gives you an A base at best.

Instead of worrying what other teams are doing, stop holding skates on fake ice and thinking it's ok, because kids played basketball for an hour.

This is the first time I've seen some rumblings from Terrier-Land. I guess you have to check out GH's track record.

Minor Novice Red: Finished in last place
Novice Red: Finished in last place
MA AA: Finished in 8th, last playoff spot and was eliminated in 3 straight

I guess the good guys always finish last

I think that part of the problem was he brought over a number of kids from his previous team. Probably 6 and a goalie. One of the assistants had twins on the team (from the previous PC team). Good kids but some of them were not of the appropriate calibre.

GH had historically created "specialty" teams for power plays and penality kills and typically the same kids were used in these roles. I am not sure if any of this spilled into this years squad but I did hear a lot of complaining about shortening of the bench during the playoffs.

So, I guess the gossip is spilling out now.

GH took a AA team, because that was the only way his son was going to play rep. No slag on the kid, but he'd be an average (at best) A player. Why GH put him so far over his head is anyone's guess.

But now that GH needs 2 goalies, this team is done for.

Specialty Teams, are you kidding me. They are 9. You don't do that until they are Peewee

If they had rolled all 3 lines consistantly, they would have had more success.

Be Ashamed!

March 28 2008, 12:33 AM

To all you disgruntled parents who have nothing to do but bash a person who gives countless hours to coach your son's hockey team.....you should be ashamed of yourselves! I'm willing to bet that very few of you 'bashers' have ever offered your own time to coach a team of any sport. And don't you ever worry about what GH wants for his son...you should be worried about what your sons would think of you! Aren't you all great role models...I think not! I know for a FACT that GH has not, and will not ever use this forum to communicate with any of you. So whoever is imitating him and letting other's believe it's GH, be warned. Your identity can be found very easily. Be a man (or woman) and get the answers from him yourself. Don't try to hide behind your "anonymous" sign on.

This forum is cyber bullying at it's best. Go ask your son what that is. He'll know. He's taught the dangers of it at school.(another fact) What you are all doing is partaking in the truest form of cyber bullying and slander. If anyone could be brought up on any sort of charges, it's YOU guys! Does it make you feel better to cowardly (because you're all ANONYMOUS or think you are) bash another human....calling them cockroaches and low life? Didn't your mom and dad ever tell you that EVERYTHING you put in black and white, whether on paper or on a computer can ALWAYS be traced back to you?

I really hope you all get a life that's more exciting than trying to hurt others in cyberland. It's disgusting to think that grown adults enjoy treating others this way.

Good luck with your son's hockey season next year....wherever he may play.

BEWARE!!! of the overbearing hockey parent.

March 28 2008, 1:15 PM

A few simple messages to you hockey parents from a former competitive player in my past, who will have future kids in hockey.

1) This game is not about you. It is about the kids, and maybe you should be asking them if they are happy...and if so...stay out of it. Go, watch the game, have fun, and enjoy this beautiful sport.
2) These kids are 10 years old. The politics and bickering of hockey parents should be non existent for CHILDREN at this age. It is unfortunate when such a beautiful activity that brings joy to the faces of every kid when they step out on the ice, can be ruined, by selfish people.
3) Calling someone a cockroach, saying someone sucks, and doing it anonymously doesn't make you a cyber bully. IT makes you an internet tough guy. I am all for speaking an opinion, but opinions generally have to come from a specific person, not ANONYMOUS.
4) There should be no heat. There should be no kitchen. IT IS HOCKEY FOR 10 YEAR OLDS. Never lose sight of that.

I hope this post did not bash or offend anyone as I am trying to defend people who volunteer their time to ALLOW YOUR KIDS to play hockey. To the anonymous poster of "If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen..." if you cant handle the coach, get out of the arena. More power to volunteers everywhere, and more power to the wonderful sport of hockey.

The last post has it dead on.

Problem is GH deserves non of that respect. He's obviously not coaching for the love of seeing the kids have fun, or he wouldn't have shortened the bench in a series he knew he had no hope in hell of winning.

He also wouldn't be trying to short cut the rules by having tryout skates behind the guise of a "team practice".

If we were talking about another coach, who was coaching for the right reasons, then this would all be very low. But it's GH so in this case the critism is more than fair.

to the 2:14 post. you obviously don't know anything about high level hockey. this is AA. if you are concerned that your kid isn't going to get equal time, then go to houseleague.
a good coach will shorten the bench to win a series. players get better in practice not games.
you are obviously a parent who doesn't know the politics of hockey and should go to houseleague.
99% of all rep teams have skates and the ones that don't end up in last place.
the motto of a coach is: "I must treat my players fairly not necessarily equally". think about this statement as you move on to a different team every year.

I agree with you 100%. The coach volunteers his time not only for his son but for 16 children and families he has never met. For someone to bash them behind their backs is cowardly. You many not agree with his decisions or his tactics but as an adult you must respect them. If you don't move on and if you think you can do better, get your coaches card and coach yourself. What you will find is exactly what you are complaining about. Families with only their kids interests in mind, not caring about team work, socialization and learning to work with others. but then again the kids know how to do this, it's the adults that have to be taught

Relax - AA is not high level hockey. There are some good quality players and maybe 3 to 4 good teams but the bottom end is so low there is no way you can call it high level hockey. Sorry but that is the reality.

High level hockey are the spring elite teams and AAA.

you are doing your son a disservice by placing him in a situation he isn't up to and then you blame the coach.

Part of the problem with this team was that the coaches played their kids more, but the skills of those kids didn't warrant the extra ice time, especially GH's son. But all the above are right, he is the coach and can do that if he wishes, although I do agree with the previous post that says we should not feel bad for GH as he has made his own bed.

This happens to every team, every year. Some coach bench's a kid for a few shifts or pulls him off early and then doesn't invite him back for next year's team and the parents come on here and trash the coach forever.

Grow up and get over it. If you don't like it, go play house league which is where you probably belong and that is what it is for. This is AA and that is how it is.

The reason you are pi$$ed, is your little superstar will now be playing for a bottom feeder and next season you will be on here trashing that coach because he doesn't know how to coach which is why you are in last place and on and on and on and on.......blah blah blah

Call them bottom feeders now, but some bottom feeders have a habit of moving up considably via decent recruitment.

If your team wasn't going to win their playoff round then why would you shorten a bench? Just cycle the players because you need to see what everyone can do. Next season without hitting will be so different.

I think the main thing everyone is missing is that this team WAS a bottom feeder last year. Even the team below showed more improvement than the Terriers did by the end of the year. The notion that GH cut the kids he didn't want is false. He lost his #1 goalie and his #1 defenseman because THEY chose not to come back. If this team is within 5 points of 8th place at the end of next season, it will be a major accomplishment.

Funny discussion
Parents complain the team is not competetive enough, then complain when the coach shortens the bench to try and win a series - which will help recruitment the next year and will make the team more competetive - the thing you wanted.
seems like unless the coach is a magician you will never be happy. By the way - your argument about not shortening so the coach can see what the players can do makes no sense since he saw that all year

You shorten the bench at this age level and this time of the season when it had no impact on the outcome. Let every player demonstrate if they can dig deep within themselves and prove they have something to offer, after all it was the playoffs. Recruiting has nothing to do with the last 3 games of the season during a playoff round.

Let's say the above couple of arguments are true. GH shortens the bench to play his "best" (which primarily consisted of the 4 coaches kids and a handful of kids that left on their own) and still gets smoked 3 straight. By bringing back this core, GH himself has proved that they aren't strong enough to match up against another team's better players.

I agree with the guy who said this team is 8th-10th at best, and have just as good a chance to be worse.

LOL. You don't build a winner by bringing back a group of kids that couldn't win, while losing your best goalie and defenseman, as well as the only kid who consistantly scored for you.

But at the end of the day it's all good, because this way GH will be able to justify playing his houseleaguer son as much as he does.
