VK will have a #1 or #2 team this year with the talent they already had and the addition of MD who is coming down to play at his own age group at last (no, not his Dad either so don't bother). MM and RD are both very good but small so assuming they finally start to sprout this year DD will have some great talent to challenge other top teams. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughn Kings AAANo score for this post | June 19 2008, 9:32 AM |
Their ain't no sprouting going on there so don't get your hopes up and good luck with finishing in the top 2... |

top 2 teams will not change, marlies and rebels. |

MM is a good player but way to small.
All the size went to his dads mouth. |

Rebels will be much stronger than the Marlies this year. Marlies made too many poor changes. The only thing that will remain strong is their goaltending and that should get interesting with the animosity that exists between the parents. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughn Kings AAANo score for this post | June 19 2008, 1:09 PM |
How can you tell the Marlies goaltending is strong, most teams were lucky to get 5 shots per game. That's no test. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughn Kings AAANo score for this post | June 19 2008, 2:58 PM |
Thats been said every year since Minor Atom,I guess we will all have to wait and see. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughn Kings AAANo score for this post | June 19 2008, 3:36 PM |
12:10pm Rebs too soft - this year is a big year as kids are getting, bigger, stronger and meaner (see spring hockey for example)...Rebs will not respond, just watch. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughn Kings AAANo score for this post | June 19 2008, 3:39 PM |
Why do you assume the kids on all other teams grow at a faster pace than the Rebs? They all grow at different rates and different times. How many new Kings are there? |

Have seen Marlie goalies come up in the big games against the big teams and win. And I think it's even harder to do that when you stand around for 3 periods waiting for those 5 shots. Gotta give them some credit there. |

1996 GTHL will be interesting at the top, gap closing with Rebs getting stronger, V Kings adding scoring, strength and depth, don't discount the Cdns. Marlies team to beat!
NYR much improved!
Sens revamped once again!
Redwings always competitive?
Nats mid-pack?
Titans?
any comments? |

Titans not as good as last year. Although does have good goaltending |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughan KingsNo score for this post | June 20 2008, 2:39 PM |
Do they? No one seems to really know who the goaltending tandum is for sure. Seems like cards get signed and pulled at this place. |

They don't have goaltending. They can't even win a Canlan Tournament against
a team that has a bunch of AA's on it. |

DD did pretty good in the NHL draft. Worked with TC and CT, first and high second round picks. Both great kids also. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughan KingsNo score for this post | June 24 2008, 6:12 PM |
DD is the 98 bulldogs coach for the brick and his team played JJ 98 st mikes team made up from aa and aaa players. They played two games this summer a 2-1 win for st mikes and a 5-3 win for the bulldogs. In both games JJ out coached DD. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughan KingsNo score for this post | June 24 2008, 10:22 PM |
JJ is one of the top coaches in 96 DD is not even close. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughan KingsNo score for this post | June 24 2008, 10:36 PM |
both excellent coaches and both are great with kids. DD has more experience coaching older players. Head coach for Stoufville Spirit Jr A. You have to have very good credentials to be coaching provincial jr a. The same can't be said for most (not all) 96 aaa coaches. Enough said. |

10:36pm JJ great with kids? If you enjoy verbal abuse for your kids that's the place to be! |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughan KingsNo score for this post | June 25 2008, 9:41 AM |
I have heard coaches on every team scream at kids, from the Marlies to the Titans. Some more than others. Sometimes that's the only way to get the point across. Would not say that anyone is abusive, except perhaps the TT guy who yells the entire game. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughan KingsNo score for this post | June 25 2008, 4:13 PM |
3 years, 3 third place finishes for the JRC's. he's worried more about carrying kids that will fund his private lessons than building a team that will challenge for number one spot. Enough said about this guy. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughan KingsNo score for this post | June 26 2008, 8:30 AM |
Vaughan will be top three at least this year but should expect a good fight from several teams that have improved. The top five will be much closer in points by the end of the season. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: 96 Vaughan KingsNo score for this post | June 26 2008, 9:00 AM |
Ever think it's not all about being #1. Ask a few of the ex Marlie parents how much fun it is being strung along until the end of the season and then having your kid cut. All about staying #1 nothing to do with the kids. At least DD is honest with people. |

Majors will struggle to make the playoffs. The Kings will be top three only because the JrC are going to be weaker. |

it will only have taken 2 seasons for dd to take last place team to top 2!! not bad! and does this while coaching a Jr A team that lost in the finals!! oh and i think 7 to 9 kids got scholarships on his team, the most from any junior team. I think that speaks for itself, who at the 96 level can top that!!! |

You are right that this team went from 11th to 2nd.... but all that was done on recruiting, not development. Anybody can recruit already talented players, but development is another story. If this team stays together and continues to be successful, then you are right, good on the coach -- but development takes time. Guess the proof will be in a few years if the majority of this team is drafted, until then, it's merely been a good recruiting job, no more, no less, so don't applaud the coach's ability yet. |

Great job coach is correct, lets break this down .
1. coach gets paid
2. coach brings in kids not to make the team better, but get private lessons, $$$$$$$
This coach very smart, you parents fall for it every time, lets see your$$$$$$$ takes you this year sockers.

DE also does nothing but recruit and no one is saying crap about him. Every year, takes top kids from other teams, then drops the weakest players. Wins everything and 5 kids leave? Something wrong there. Oh it's all about making his kid look good, I forgot. |

dd has already proven himself in terms of development with the 90 and 91 age group, took them at a young age, most playing at a higher level. being good at 12 is one thing but bieng good at 16+ is totally different. im sure he will do the same with the 96 age group, made a commitment to Minor midget!!!! |

If you took all the top AAA kids who live in Vaughan and made them play for the Vaughan Kings, we'd have a great team: existing/new VK kids: JM on D, RD on F; MD on F; ME from Marlies on D; MD ex marlie now NYR on d; DS ex marlie now JRCs on F; I've probably forgotton a few...DD should have gone harder after a few of them. Add in a couple of top imports and voila!
