A goalie who can't focus will sink a team in a heartbeat.

Goaltending is not a good position for a kid who has attention problems. His mental lapses won't be noticed as much as a forward.

goaltending is not a good position for psycotic parents. the parents that focus too much and cannot allow the "child" to first have fun, second get past goals against immediately and third understand that they cannot stop everything are sad peices of work.

besides, if your kid is in net, open up the wallets for goalie instruction. if you don't then you are only asking for failure and disappointment for the kid.

oh ya, YS has the best tandem, markham kid is ok but cannot do a season by himself (who could)...barrie hahahahahahahaha

YS goalies are the best tandem in the OMHA & GTHL combined.

Nobody comes close.

In the ETA East for tandems, I like Peterborough and Whitby. Central's goalie was good solo but couldn't go alone (like someone said of the Markham goalies). Put any two of those kids on Clarington and that team are OMHA champs.

not sure about Peterborough, but Whitby's goalies are not AAA material -- AA for one and A for the other (being generous)

Petes lost their best goalie to Quinte for the coming season. He lives in the Quinte region and only played for Peterborough because Quinte's AAA program does not start until Major Atom. So, Petes tandem will not be as good as last year. Central goalie may have been the best in the Eastern Conference last year? But, as mentioned it was tough for him to go it alone since the team only carried one goalie. Clarington had one decent goalie and one not so good. Whitby had two decent goalies, but neither was top notch. Oshawa struggled in net and everywhere else.

318. We'll see this season but you seem to know quite a bit. Based on your analysis, you are a Clarington goalie parent. There is no way there was one good goalie.

Best goalie in the province was Welland's goalie; seen them all last yr.
Mind you, there could still be some late bloomers out there who played
AA,A,or lower. It is hard to tell how good a goalie really is until he faces the top players on a regular basis. Welland goalie proved this last year.

Welland Goalie Dad is a dreamer. This kid is a fast bloomer going in the wrong direction. Needs to see some rubber and requires some investment in goalie instuction. This year he is number 3 or 4 at best in the OMHA.not counting 2 or 3 GTHL goalies who are also ahead of him. Stop pimping your kid. Your back up in Welland has almost caught up.

Welland must have played like 200 games last year in order to see all of these goalies.

Welland goalie hardly have saw any shots. Welland played great team defense. I would be surprised if the goalie saw 10 shots per game on average.

Give it up Welland dad. Welland goalie started off very strong in the first couple of years but after playing against him last year in Preston I can see that he has slipped quite a bit. You need to get out and take a look around if you think he is the best. His size is definatley a factor and do not forget he has always had great defense in front of him.

We have good goalies here in the east, too. We are never given credit for that. The Peterborough goalie is now playing in Quinte and the other goalie for Quinte is super, too.

10:16 am, you obviously suffer from the typical "NHL" parent complex. Thinking you are above everyone else and insulting the goalies playing at the AE level. Regardless of the level of play, every 9 or 10 year old develops at their own rate. In my coaching experience, I've watched many kids play at the lower levels for a number of years and than worked themselves up to the higher levels over the years. These kids tend to be the ones who are still playing hockey well into their late teens. A number of kids who are playing a high level of hockey at ages 9 or 10 may be burned out by 13, 14. The kids who truly love the game will prevail. Also, if the goalies aren't investing some time in money into a goalie coach they will definately not be playing rep. hockey down the road.

Well said, 12:25am...I know someone who pulled their kid from rep hockey at age 11 because of a bad coach and their kid played house league for the year. The next year after that the kid wanted to play rep hockey again and didn't look back.
