Lacrosse Tyke A Division and Provincials

Group 1: Whitby #1 Burlington Oakville #1 Mimico #1
Group 2: Peterborough #1 Clarington #1 Orangeville #1 Brampton #1

Should be a very competitive provincials this year with Whitby, Clarington and Peterborough being fairly evenly matched. Who else can compete with these teams or is it going to be a 3 horse race?

Based on the tournament results posted on the OLA site, here's a summary of the overall win-loss-tie record of each team based upon playing the other teams in this category - doesn't look like Oakville has played much against the top three - so they might be able to give the top three a run though:

Whitby 9-2
Clarington 9-3
Peterborough 6-4
Burlington 6-2-1
Oakville 1-1-1
Mimico 1-4
Brampton 0-8
Orangeville 0-8

If the kid is born in 2000, he is considered 8. The top teams have 99 percent of 2000's. The smaller community areas would be about 50/50 of 2000 and 2001's.

they may be considered 8 but the child isn't some are only 7.5 sorry but it is a big difference, especially since the lacrosse season ends in August. The majority of the team will stil be 7. some are closer in age to the 01's than the 00's

Why is the Clarington Tyke "A" team not playing in the Zone Championship.
They have one 3 tournaments and lost 1 in the finals; and I watched them beat peterborough in a zone game the other day. The 2 best teams aren't in the

I'm pretty sure that Brampton is a different zone than Clarington and Whitby. Please don't get so defensive. I wasn't talking about provincials. From past showings in tourney's Brampton has a little way's to go yet, and may shine in later years.

Good question. As a Whitby parent the 2 best teams sould play in the zone finals. We beat Clarington twice and they in turn beat us twice in zone games. Pete Lakers have tied us once and lost to us twice. The top two teams should be in zone 6 finals. At the cut off date the Gaels had more points and a better winning percent than the lakers. WE WANT THE GAELS AGAIN.

Investigation Zone 6 - Tyke "A" Championship

No score for this post
July 21 2008, 6:00 PM

Where are the Tyke Zone 6 Championships being played ? Are they in Peterborough by any chance, and the zone 6 exec. wants them in it ? Peterborough is not one of the top 2 teams in zone 6 for tyke "A", although they are very very close, but their record against the top 2 and tournaments doesn't justify it. I hope this changes. Does zone 6 think they can get away with it because they have the
top 3 Tyke "A" temas in the province. Even Whitby aknowledges they should be playing ClaRINGTON.

Hi, our team is not one of the big 3 and we're curious how often you practice and how many tournaments you enter? We would like to show better for next year and any advice would be welcomed. FYI, we practice once and sometimes twice a week. Our team is split 50/50 with 2000 and 2001's. We don't have tryouts anyone that shows interest in lacrosse makes the team.

Tyke A - Whitby, Clarington and Peterborough are the top 3 in the provincials. Burlington #21 is solid and they play a pressure game but are in tough against the top 3. Brampton, Orangeville, Mimico are improving but are a year or two away. Oakville is a little unknown, not playing in the top tournaments this year. Back to the top 3: Whitby has the nice mixture of skill and grit (#9,#15) and plays tough defense. The other teams will have to be willing to pay the price to have any success against this team. Peterborough has good stick skills and move the ball well (#15,#14,#13) and could do damage if they play with more aggression. Clarington is a team that scores in transition (#77,#44) and if they can continue to run the floor and score on turnovers, as well as step up their intensity on defense they will be tough to beat. The winner between these 3 top teams will be the team that has a few players step up their game and contribute other than the big name players earlier mentioned. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!

Agree with 8:34, the big 3 will be the favourites, but I think either Oakville or Burlington might be able to pull off an upset ... since Whitby is in a grouping with both Oakville and Burlington, one of them will make it to the semi's and will likely then cross-over to play either Clarington or Peterborough the semi's. In a one game semi-final playoff anything can happen. Should make for an interesting final day.

Burlington beat Peterborough at the Hamilton tourney - and lost in the semi's to Clarington 6-4 with an empty netter.

Peterborough beat Whitby in the other semi, I think it was 6-2 and then Clarington beat Peterborough in the final 6-4.

So yes, Burlington can compete with the "Big 3" - and they know it.

Oakville and Burlington will be very hard-pressed to compete with the Big 3 here, regardless of the result of the Hamilton Super Series Tourney... as 5:18 said, Clarington was tired when they played Burlington, and Peterborough just had an off-game.

this will be a Clarington vs Whitby or Peterborough final...the rest of the teams are B1 at best...

The problem with the zone championship game besides the fact that Peterborough should only be in the arena if they are there to watch is that no one in our program from our executive, to our manager, to our coach has a clue how the process works.

It is an extremely hard mathematical formula so here you go.

the Provincials should be just a 3 team round robin this year (Whitby, Peterborough and Clarington) ... the rest should have been divided into B1 and B2 teams. I don't know why the OLA insists on having at least 6-8 teams compete for A when most of them will just get smoked when they get there anyway....
