If my kid's spring team didn't win a thing are they still elite?

Some teams this spring were pretty heavily hyped, and then never got past the semis in a single tournament. Should these parents still go around refering to their kids as elite players?

No, they are just a house league team with a couple of elite players who could do better for themselves.

But of course! It must be the coach's fault!

Or because they got stuck with the weak player who just ruined everything they tried to accomplish.

Or because the tournament organizer fixed the ice times so that the home team would be fresh and the best possible opponent would be exhausted.

Or because the hotel air conditioning was too loud.

Or because the other teams picked from a larger geographic area.

Or because the refs called too many penalties.

Or because the refs called too few penalties.

Or......

It really doesn't matter what they say, do hear or see. In the mind of an "elite parent" all evidence of any kind points toward the fact that their kid should be in the NHL and your kid should be in house-league.

My kid is better than your kid - stamps it no erasies!

Which team is making all, or any, of these excuses?

Here's some more reasons why my kid is still elite, even when his team's performance is just average, and he's not even the best player.

Johnny wouldn't go into the corner

Billy didn't pass it to my kid when he was wide open

The coach put the weeeeeek players on in the third period

Stevie should have never made this team

My kid had to play on his wrong wing

The assistant coach kept putting his kid on the ice, even though he sucks

The coach didn't yell enough

The coach yelled too much

They played their weeeek goalie just because it was his turn

The ice is too soft

The ice is too hard

The music during face offs distracted my kid

The lighting was too bright

The lighting was too dark

The kids played too much at the hotel

It was too hot out

The coach worked them too hard in practice

The coach didn't work them hard enough in practice

Too many of the boys were distracted by other summer sports

9:08, it sounds like you know some teams with parents like that. Why don't you share with the rest of us?

No, on the contrary. 9:08 is a skeptic.

So, if my kid is top 500 in Ontario in something, do I get to call him elite?
