When looking at the baby bonus check my wife noticed that only my daughters name was on it and not my sons. So she called and asked if they should both be on there and they said YES. That means for the past 10 YEARS my son has not received any $$$$$. They told us to mail in his application and they will send the $$$$$$$$. What would you do with the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Hard to know why he'd be so excited about the windfall. Don't you have to have a gross annual income of about fifty bucks to qualify to receive a baby bonus?

It's called the child tax credit now and it is based on income.

that plus you get $100 a month at any income level to help pay for child care.
In my opinion, if you are getting the baby bonus there is no way your kid should be playing AAA due to the high cost.

They will not send 10 years worth of "baby bonus". They only send up to the last 23 months. If you didn't register your child with rev. can. when he/she was born, they will process your documents from the date received and work backwards. I know, because this happened to me. Of course you can appeal it but it's a lot of red tape. Basically the only reasons acceptable would be that both parents would have had to have been abducted by aliens or in a coma and not able to register with the government.

The extra $100 a month for child care only applies up till age 6. After that you get bubkis.

Maybe pay for their education down the road!!!!!

not true 11:12 - it happened to me - 2 children and i had never applied for baby bonus. I work for myself so on paper my income was always low for tax purposes. One day someone told me to phone and inquire. Two months later a cheque arrived $20.000 one shot, my kids were legal and registered.

The government was sending me cheques for thousands of dollars telling me that I was a single mother making no money. I am definitely married and my husband makes an above average income. We don't even qualify for the Child Tax Benefit. Even though it was tempting to keep them I returned them but you wouldn't believe how hard it was to get them to stop sending the cheques - this went on for months, even after I took the time to go there in person to get it straightened out, they still kept on coming. I often wonder how many others are getting cheques they are not supposed to be receiving and the rest of us are paying for it with our taxes.

pffffft......I get a whole $21.00 /mth for 2 kids, should never have been the baby bonus....should have been baby blow us!

My wife and I both do well in the paycheque area and we get the bonus. The idea is to have lots of kids. It may cause me to go broke, but to know the rest of you are contributing to our childrens expenses makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Ain't Socialism grand.

This system is flawed. As soon as I stayed home to raise my kids myself I didn't qualify for the Child Tax Benefit. Shouldn't we support parents who are raising their own kids? Don't people who put their kids in Day Care get a tax benefit? As soon as I started working part time they started sending me the Child Tax Benefit. This makes no sense, when I was making money they send it, when I wasn't making money and needing it the most I didn't qualify - and no I wasn't taking any government handouts just living on my spouse's income.
