Yes, there are at least two different fonts. Many years used these smaller size numbers when they stamped the casebacks. In 1952, every one I've seen that was RAF issue used a much larger font.
The seller seems to imply that these were all sequentially numbered and that this is a particularly low one. This is not so.
These weren't numbered sequentially across the years by model. The issue numbers started at '1' again each year, and covered all models issued. So, in 1953 (hypothetically) watch number '1' might have been a Mk XI from IWC and number '2' an Omega '53, with watch number '3' another Mk XI.
