I would say quality is comparable to second-tier Swiss watches.. i.e. Tissot, Enicar, etc... Vostoks are crudely made, but simple and extremely durable... makes great beaters... but be wary of the automatic 31-jewel mechanism...which is unfortunately not as reliable as its 17-jewel sibbling...
and yes, you are looking at the wrong places... the older Vostoks have much more classy designs, not the mass-produced souvenir junk on ebay!
