I was just wondering about the opinions of everyone around the league pertaining to the new rules concerning obstruction (think New NHL). I personally think it will help keep some flow to the game, and hopefully stave off any extra/ dirty stickwork behind or in the middle of a play. The only thing im worried about is if the games are going to be penaltyfests, a la the first 60 games of the NHL season. I know a lot of the games already were like that last year, without any of the new stickwork penalties. Its great to try and create flow and extra space, but hopefully it wont be counter-intuitive, bogging a fast paced game down with endless trips to the box.

From what I heard the JR. A and JR. B games last weekend were a disaster. I agree that there needs to be changes made such as calling some of the stuff that needs to be called. But everytime someone touches someone with a stick its going to result in a penalty and its going to get pretty ridiculous. And with the ability of some referees last year....I have a bad feeling.

The junior series was a disaster due to the fact the second game just got out of hand fight wise.

This past weekend was a AAA tournament, and more penalties were called than ever. However, all apperantly agreed it opened up the game.

Basically, heres a shrinked version of the new rules that you need to know.

1. You can tie a guy up off the face off, that alone means huge plays and goals right off the bat

2. You cant TOUCH the guy in front of the net. you have to leave him be until the buck is in his vicinity. Otherwise, its a penalty...which is what was most called in the past two weekends.

the new rules suck tonight mck and mizzou played and over 40 penalties were called. it was a close game then the penalties took over. mizzou ended up winning the game 9-4 but it was 3-3 after the first. i think if mck can play like that against mizzou they will have no problem winning the silver

It was 5-3 going into the third....5-4 after the first minute of the third and then yes...penalties did take over.

Were the penalties called consistantly through the night???

Also were they calling the use of stick stuff and new rules emphasis stuff or were they just calling penalties?

Just curious as to the way MIHOA has there guys calling games?

For the most part things were called consistently. They are calling the stick infractions. You lay a stick on a guy and hook him just a tiny bit and you will probably be called for it. The only thing that was overlookedis that sometimes in hockey people fall down so sometimes if a guy goes down and the other teams player happens to be there and his stick somehow ended up under him or touching him they might just call you for something. We had Lovecchio (sp?) last night and at times he would yell out and let us know what we were doing wrong....so we had chances to correct it right away, and if we didn't we were in the box.

Hopefully the refs will be equally aware of players diving to draw penalties. Were there any diving calls last night?
