I have for sale a few more of these watches which are now becoming difficult to obtain. I doubt very much whether I will be able to offer them for this price again.
Manufactured by CWC (Cortebert Watch Company) they were standard British military issue in the 1970's. The lugs are fixed, not spring bars. The back is stamped with the arrow (crows foot) symbol and the ordnance numbers.

PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE THESE WATCHES WITH CWC WATCHES THAT WERE MADE FOR THE DOMESTIC MARKET AND WHICH DO NOT BEAR THE ARROW SYMBOL.

The markers, numerals and hands are luminous and the dial has the "T" in a circle to indicate that Tritium luminous compound has been used. The crystal is acrylic (as the contract states it must be) and is slightly domed. The movement is manual wind 17 jewel calibre running and functioning exactly as it should.

The dimensions are 36mm diameter and 42mm from lug to lug. The lug width is 18mm. The watch does not come with a strap.

I am selling these watches for $120 including delivery. If you are in the UK the price is £75.00

Payment in US$ or UK£ by money order, cash or bank transfer. My preferred method of payment is cash in either Dollars or Pounds, this method of payment is fastest and cheapest for us both. So far I have found the postal system 100% secure for sending cash and watches.

If the watch you buy in any way fails to meet your expectations then please return it to me. I will be glad to refund your payment less postage.

The watches will be shipped via Registered Post (where possible).

A LITTLE HISTORY

Manufactured by the CWC watch company to meet UK Military Specifications N.S.N (NATO Stock Number) W10/6645-99-523-8290 Standard Military "Crows Foot" arrow on back proving Mil Spec Stainless Case and armoured face Solid strap pins for high security and functionality Luminous hands and figure points Centre seconds hand increments in one second intervals VERY high reliability and Ruggedness to meet Military Specifications FULLY SERVICED and Guaranteed for 12 Months.

Note: These "W10" watches have been standard issue to British Army soldiers since the 1970's. They have all been issued and then returned to barracks for service and re-calibration. It is quite possible that your watch has "seen action" either in the Falklands or the Gulf !! EVERY watch has been fully Serviced.

The following is an extract from " A Concise Guide to Military Timepieces" by Z.M.Wesolowski a book covering all aspects of Military Timepieces

" In the 1970's the CWC company produced a tonneau-shaped wristwatch in a monobloc case. This is reminiscent of the original concept devised by Borgel and used in many of the First World war military pattern early waterproof wristwatches; access to the movement is gained from the front after removing the armoured perspex glass..." "....A special feature of this watch is the hacking device which has been fitted, to stop the centre seconds hand during time setting. An identical wristwatch was produced by Hamilton of Geneva, which used the same ebauche as in the CWC model. Most of the Hamilton wristwatches were used by the Royal Air Force and are engraved on the back with the "6bb" prefix. Production of the CWC wristwatch continued for several years, until a Quartz model, again supplied by CWC, superseded the mechanical watch....."

The broad arrow which appears on the dial of these watches, has it's origins in the 16th century. It was used to mark the outside of leather bags containing arrows, to show which way they faced. It was eventually adopted by the government and War Office to denote military property.
