Elgin A-11 Pilot Watch WWII Military
Important WW II US Army Air Force Issue. This watch is on every Military Watch Collectors Top 10 list.
Appears to be all original except for band. Dial and hands are in excellent condition with only a slight bit of paint flaking on the hands (see images below). The watch works and keeps good time.
The hack-setting 15 jewel Elgin 549 movement (signed and with serial number Y791879) sits under a dust cover and is secured with a waterproof stainless steel screw-type back cover. The rest of the case is chromed brass.
This A-11 has recently been cleaned and serviced by a certified watchmaker. Although you'll see a slight crack in the crystal at about 10:30 [does not need replacement], and some wearing of the finish on the back and crown, the face of this watch is in very nice condition. This is a magnificent example of what our flyers were wearing in WW II. It shows just enough evidence of age and participation to make it interesting, and it looks splendid on the wrist.
On the back you will find the following inscriptions:
Type A-11
Spec. No. 94-27834
Ser. No. AF43-69103 (indicates this watch was issued in 1943)
Mfr's Part NO. 1783
Ord.NO. W535ac-34898
ELGIN
Comes with olive canvas band, new but looks like it's from the WW II era.
Asking US$150 including USPS priority shipping in US. Overseas buyers must add $15 for insured shipping.
