This is an extremely rare 1970s vintage US Air Force Pilot
Chronograph manufactured in Switzerland by Orfina for the
military division of Porsche Design. This watch ref. 7177 was
also adopted by NATO forces, the UAE, certain units of the Swiss
Army and approved by the Royal Navy. Very few were made for the
United States Air Force specifically for issuance to the 23rd
Tactical Fighter Wing known as the "Flying Tigers" of the United
States Air Force. The dial markings include the words U.S. Air
Force and the squadron tiger logo with the word Tiger over it.
The dial also has the words Porsche Design, Military and the red
3H symbol for Tritium. The strap is a German made pilot band
with the German military stock number stamped into the reverse.
The U.S. Air Force did not re-order any more watches for issue
to other units so this is one of the rarest of U.S. military and
aviator watches as well.
