WA Priority List (176 visas) now includes more IT occupations

WA has updated their Priority List for Skilled Sponsored 176 (permanent) sponsorship.

It now includes a host of IT occupations not found elsewhere on the MODL or other state lists, which is interesting as it may be a new avenue for those who don't have sufficient points to get to the 175 passmark.

Re: Can I apply PR for 176 Visa

Hi Rahman,

Whether you can pass the points criteria depends on things such as your age, English language skills and recent work experience. It is not just based on the ASCO code or the region. I suggest you visit the DIMA website to ascertain the number of points you are likely to get.

In order to qualify for the WA scheme (which will allow you to have a lower number of points), your occupation needs to be on the list provided. The IT occupations on here all appear to be 2231-79 occupations and NOT the 2231-11 that you have. Please check the list via the website link above.

Therefore it is simple to say that you are NOT currently eligible for this WA visa. However, if you got your ACS application re-assessed under another code (as per the list) then you may be, dependent on the other criteria.

Regards,
Dazz

2231-79 (proj manager) vs 1224-11 (IT manager) - bad advice?

November 29 2008, 8:35 AM

Dear Peter

Thanks for the info on WA, much appreciated.

I wonder if you could help. There's a bit of preamble here, but pls stick with me!

I've had a really bad experience with a migration agency in the UK. They had been 'progressing' my ACS assessment but have recently gone bankrupt (I've lost a fair amount of money).

I have now been dealing with ACS direct. It transpires that my agent had neglected to forward paperwork to them etc. I have started to doubt the advice the agents gave me re. the category I should apply for (1224-11 IT Manager).

ACS have been very helpful but have now suggested I go down the RPL route as they don't think my qualifications are relevant (a bachelors in architecture (physical buildings!)) and a masters in virtual environments (theory and programming of 3d online worlds).

The majority of my managerial work experience (5 years plus) has been a mix of day to day management of web and intranet development teams and project lead/management roles for complex web based projects.

If I continue down the 1224-11 route my options are constrained to sponsorship for temp visa by SA. However, a perm visa in WA is much more atrractive - hence my interest in 2231-79 project manager (agents had not informed me at outset there was such a category).

Do you know if

a) the assessment criteria for IT manager / Project manager are similar? I feel my experience and knowledge could be weighted either way.

b) whether its possible to change my assessment category with ACS mid-application? Or would I need to start again?

Thanks in advance,

Dan
