Required experience

Hi there,

First of all, I'd like to thank Steve for the RPL samples I bought. I could have never guessed one has to write so much in CBOK area. But even then, I need some advice before submitting my application to ACS.

I hesitate in choosing between System Manager and Systems Designer occupations.

I have about 12 years of exeprience in IT in total, but there's hardly a way this could cover 8 years in a single one occupation, whether System Manager or Systems Designer. 8 years are required since my degree is not in IT but in Telecommunications Engineering (the emphasis in on the latter word wink.gif ).

Will it be a problem from ACS's point of view? I'm afraid they are not quite specific in their guidelines.
Should I nominate the occupation I have the most experience in, or the one for which I have the latest experience?

Hi,

You don't need to worry too much about which ASCO code you choose (unless you're choosing between MODL and non-MODL). The ACS will assess you as they see fit and will alter the code as appropriate.

You don't need 8 years experience in the same occupation, just in IT, as you have a degree your experience requirements are only 6 years, so this may help you. You should choose the ASCO code relating to your most recent experience.

Hope this helps...

Cheers,
Steve.

I don't think I qualify for MODL and chose to go for state nomination. Therefore my goal is to be assigned any ASCO code except "not eslewhere specified", as XXX-79 on its own doesn't appear on any territorial lists of occupations in demand. If they assign me this code without MODL, I'm afraid I'll have to appeal.

Do I understand you correctly, that even though my degree major is not in IT, and most of modules weren't IT-related but science and engineering, I still need only 6 years of experience? And this experience shouldn't necessarily be in a signle one ASCO occupation?

Many thanks again for all your help.
