Today I made a major dent in the kitchen - got it to a point where I wouldn't be mortified if my MIL dropped in

And it only took me 45 minutes. I plan to do another 45 in there tomorrow. by then I should be able to eat off of the floor, LOL!
After the kids went to bed tonight, I worked on the family room, putting away the books/videos that have come over the last week or so for my store, breaking down the boxes they came in and getting rid of the cardboard, putting away the kids' toys, straightening up the couch, swiffering the carpet, and building a small set of shelves. I feel very productive!
My goal is to get this house is shape by the end of the weekend. This means I need to spend some time on the upstairs tomorrow, and maybe do a little re-arranging of furniture in the family room, if I'm brave enough for that task...
Aidan was mentioning the other day how he was sad that he couldn't have friends over for a playdate [I am always telling him that I don't want to invite anyone over while the house is a mess - it's been a mess for months now!]. Hearing him say that made me feel really bad. He's not really a social creature, but apparently it
does bother him that he can't have friends over. He shouldn't have to suffer because his parents can't seem to keep things neat! So, I guess Aidan was the fire that was lit under me (appropriate that his name means "little fire" LOL!). If I can get him to do his part in getting the toys under control both in the family room and in his bedroom, then I think we could have a friend over next week. He'd be thrilled!
