Cleaning windows and having no streaks??! (m)

Hi there... what do you use to WIPE your windows? I have always used paper towels and windex or paper towels and PLEDGE multi-purpose clean and dust (I love this stuff when dusting!)... but I always have smears or streaks on my window from (I think) the paper towels. I've heard to use coffee filters or newspaper and I haven't been pleased with those. Does anyone use a squeegee? A friend of mine used a squeegee on some of my windows- it seems to be more "sparkling" looking except in the places where she didn't lift up the squeegee and there's that dirty line that needs to be wiped up with a paper towel- LOL.

So- what are you pleased with? A certain type of paper towel? What kind? A squeegee? Where did you get it?

Thanks!! Y'all have me in the mood for house cleaning now after reading a few posts below!

Hugs, Lori

You clean windows?

Wow. I wonder what a house with clean windows look like?

Here's what I found on ehow.com: http://www.ehow.com/how_431_clean-windows.html I can barely get it together enough to squirt some Windex on most of my windows, so I'm not sure I'll be going the squeegee route anytime soon, but it does look like it might give the best results. There's an interesting tip on there regarding steel wool, too.

They say not to use newspaper anymore because the ink is different..........m

or something. I like my Viva paper towels. They are more expensive, but they are what I use to smooth cake icing since they have no texture. And don't spray too mcuh Windex on them 'cause if your window is too wet, it's easier to leave streaks.

Do you spray the Windex on the towel or the window?

I spray right on the window, or whatever it is I am washing. I wonder if that makes any difference?

I spray right on the iwndow, just a fine mist, not so it's running down too much. nt

I wonder if you would have better luck with the unbleached filters...(m)

I know that I've gotten really good results from them. And Andi's right about the newspaper...my grandmother swore by it, but when I use it, the ink smears all over the place. Yuck!

As for paper towels, I've found that Bounty does a fairly good job. But then I wash them all down with hot soapy water first, and then use the Windex (the multi-surface one with the vinegar; I REALLY love that stuff!). There's usually a bit of lint, but not as much as with the store brand stuff.

To clean windows & mirrors, I use coffee filters & rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle *m

costs less than $1 at the store for a bottle, leaves no streaks.

Try it, it works and it saves money - Windex is so expensive!
