Getting newly-inspired

Anybody ever look at the "Lisa's Big Mess" link in the header? I haven't updated it in ages. Look at the "Before" pictures, imagine rooms that look worse than that, and you'll get an idea of how things have been looking around here lately.

Last weekend, I'm happy to say, we made some big progress in both the living room and the family room. We're not at "After" picture level yet, but we're getting there. And while I haven't made any new progress this week, I have managed to maintain what progress we did make, and that in itself is something to be impressed by lately.

Wish me luck keeping the momentum going!

Good for you, I went yesterday and bought some cleaning products *m

April 27 2007, 8:33 AM

to hopefully help simplfy some of the cleaning here in the house. I am trying to go room by room, area by area and de-clutter and clean up. My new favorite is my Clorox Ready Mop, I love the fact that I do not need a mop and bucket anymore. I will still keep my mop for heavy duty tasks but for day to day stuff I will use the ready mop.

You can do it!! I have managed to get .....m

April 27 2007, 12:34 PM

kitchen, LR & DR under control & love that I can have it looking "clean" in just a few minutes. My room is also looking ok, I still need to clean off the 2 dresser tops & have to be careful to put away the clean laundry or it gets out of hand, doh!

The kids' rooms are my next area I want to get clean & organized, but just haven't been able to bring myself to actually do it

I don't even want to *think* about the kids' room right now.

April 27 2007, 11:11 PM

It's mortifying. I've really got to teach them better habits, but it's hard when I have lousy habits myself... I created those little slobs, sadly.

I hear you about the laundry - I have 3 clean baskets upstairs as we speak. I folded it, but just haven't put it away. I don't know what's so hard about putting clothes away, but I just have a tendency to put it off.

I'm happy for you for getting those areas under control! I'm looking forward to that day myself. I think my goal for this weekend is to get the kitchen all taken care of. That should be do-able. If I manage to do it all on Saturday, I can even make a dent in the dining room on Sunday maybe...

Ooh, yeah. I bought a Swiffer Wet Jet last year and

April 27 2007, 11:07 PM

I have mopped the floors around here more in the last year than I did in all of the 8 prior years of living here! And, I really don't mop all that often - once a month or so, unless there's a spill.

I decided last year when I was on my FlyLady kick that it was worth it to invest in a few tools. The right equipment really makes the job so much easier (and, as a result, more likely do get done!)

Good luck with your new cleaning supplies - be sure to let us know how it goes. Maybe we can inspire each other to keep it up. Goodness knows I need all of the inspiration I can get when it comes to housework

I got a Swiffer VAC for Christmas this past year adn I LOVE IT! more

May 4 2007, 8:30 AM

I have no carpet in the house and have never had an upright vacuum that works on bare floors. Of course, it doesn't hold a charge long enough to do the whole downstairs, but that's ok. I plug it back in and mop or do something else, then get the VAC out again. Plus in this house, we have nothing that moves the air and traps dust in a filter. No AC and we have radiant heat and a pellet stove. So the dust just settles. And sweeping just moves a lot of dust to another spot.

Funny too, no matter how clean your floor looks, that swiffer cloth behind the VAC still picks up *a lot!* I'm thinking of getting another one for upstairs!

I had been thinking of getting one of those

May 8 2007, 9:37 AM

but for the rug downstairs - does it do carpets? I don't vacuum downstairs as often as I should because I hate lugging the big vac down there and back. I might be better about it if I had something easier to carry.

As far as floors go, I tend to just use the regular swiffer, swiff any crumbs or what have you into a pile and sweep up into a dustpan (or suck up with my dustbuster). I only use the big vacuum when I have it out to do the living room rug, or when the kitchen has gotten really out of control crumb-wise

No, not for carpet at all....................m

It's the vacuum and a swiffer in the same thing. But it would save you a step on non-carpeted surfaces.

I used to sweep, then suck up stuff iwth the Dustbuster, but this Vac is really nice. Suck up the crumbs and then the swiffer follows and gets the dust leftover.

That does sound handy, if...

I had anywhere to store it that was anywhere near an outlet. There really should be electrical outlets in closets.
