Anybody done anything artsy/crafty lately? I can't be the only one!

Let's hear about it!

Here's what I've been working on lately:

First, is a set of Family Tree Magnets for my BIL and his fiancee. I gave them to her on Saturday at her bridal shower. I already had all of the pictures from BIL's family (since that's also DH's family, LOL) and I had to contact SIL2B's mother to get photos for her side of the family. I'm really pleased with the way they came out and the happy couple seemed to like them.

Second, since yesterday was Grandparents' Day, I decided to do a little something special and I made key chains for each of the grandparents (plus one for me, LOL!) They are double-sided with DS#1 on one side and DS#2 on the other. Before transferring the photos to clay, I tried a different effect on each pair of them in Paint Shop Pro. L-R: Virtual Painter Pastels, sepia, nothing, posterize, adjusted the hue to make them browner.

Thanks for looking!
Lisa

gift! And the key chains are the perfect gift for grandparents, too!

I've been getting a lot of scrapbooking done during the last month. I'm just 2 2-page layouts away from finishing our trip to California last March. I took over 1000 pics and I'm managing to get them into just one of Creative Memories Big Book albums (12x15). I am so far behind on my chronological albums, it's a nice break to do an album that has a start and a finish, kwim?

Well, I'm still plugging along

on an afghan for a friend. I love making them, but they just take so l-o-n-g!

Also, I've been knitting what started out being a purse, but I think might turn into a poncho. Quite a stretch, eh?? LOL I wanted to make sure the purse was big enough, but I cast on too many stitches for it to be effective as a purse. So, I started thinking what else I could do... and I think maybe a poncho.

I'm also making a felt tiger head to go on DS's tiger cub den flag. I also had to attach a bunch of patches to his uniform.

Those keychains are pretty cool, Lisa! Are you making them for other people? (Like, we could mail you a photo for custom orders?)

You know, I saw this a month ago and forgot to respond!

I'm really sorry about that

As a rule, I don't take custom orders on these things, because they can be a pain in the neck, LOL! But I'm always happy to do it for a friend. If you are still interested, drop me a line at lisa@polkadotcreations.com and we can chat about it.

Lisa, what a great idea. I noticed that you had a tutorial for photo party favor magnets. Did you use this transfer method? Or did you use the liquid polymer clay to transfer the image? Just curious! Thanks for the wonderful site. Your ideas and products are beautiful! -Nicole

Thanks! I've tried a few different transfer methods, and (m)

I rarely seem to have the same results twice, LOL!

Actually, there are two methods I use regularly: the one in that tutorial I wrote, and Donna Kato's method that I've seen described on the HGTV website. For these magnets, I used Donna's method initially, but for some reason I just couldn't get it to work. So, I ended up going back to the t-shirt transfer paper method. They have more of a "slick" look about them because I put a thin layer of liquid Kato Polyclay over the top of them to give them a soft shine.

Transfers really drive me crazy. I always go through so much trial-and-error when I have a transfer project to do, that when I finally get it working, I make TONS of them and get it out of my system!

I'm really pleased with the way they came out - I just hope I can repeat the process in a month or two. I want to make my BIL & SIL a magnet with their wedding photo on it to replace the "Your Picture Here" one
