Here's the purse I mentioned a while back:

I've also made a hat for myself that I think is really cool. I haven't photographed it. I made it using two strands of yarn - one regular boring old strand of brown, and another funky soft fuzzy yarn with greens & blues in it. I can't wait to wear it

I also made Eamonn a hat using gray yarn and blue fun fur. It goes really well with his blue & gray winter jacket. Unfortunately, it's a bit too small because I took it off of the loom too soon (what else is new??) and on top of that it is SO fuzzy, he looks like some kind of porcupine or something. I think it's cute, but DH says it would be cruel to send him to school like that, LOL!

I had planned to make one for Aidan in gray and orange to match his jacket, but I've decided to rethink that, given the fuzz factor of Eamonn's hat...

I'm working now on a really small hat for a friend's new baby girl. I was in the mood to make something with some pinks, and since there is a considerable lack of pink in MY house, I had to find a recipient elsewhere

I want to do some scarves, too, before it gets too cold.

I let my mom use my KK............m

November 10 2006, 8:26 PM

I haven't been moved to make anything lately (actually the only thing I finished was a blue hat for Wyatt - yep, it is fuzzy & baby-looking, lol!). I did buy the long loom to do a scarf for C, don't know why - my sil made her a scarf last year and she only wears it for dress-up (not sure I want to spend much time on MORE dress up stuff ).

Anyway, Mom likes to do crafty stuff & voluteers for several places that I thought she could make warm winter hats for. She lives in Pensacola FL, I don't know the need for winter hats, lol, but they do have a few cold nights. She has made one and enjoyed it.

I love it cause at least I can finish something on it!

Your purse looks great!

Thanks, and yeah, that's what I like about it, too.

It only take a few hours to do a hat, and it's portable enough that I can spread that 2 hours over the course of a week or so and just bring it with me when I have some downtime waiting for some kid or another to get out of school or off of the bus...

Very pretty.

November 13 2006, 2:15 PM

I just bought one for Brianna and am hoping that it is easy to use. I'm giving it to her next weekend. I got the smallest size (for newborns) so she could make hats for her baby dolls and build-a-bears. Actually, I'm hoping she will make some for christmas presents for her brother's BAB and her grandmother's bears.

Your purse looks great. Was that on a round one?

I find it really easy.

I actually cheat a bit. The instructions have you wrapping the yarn around each peg every time you complete a row. I don't bother with that. I just lay the yarn across the pegs similar to the way I learned to finger-knit as a kid in Girl Scouts. It works just fine. I'm thinking maybe I should try something the right way at some point so I can see what the difference in the finished product is.

Bri shouldn't have a problem. If she's anything like her mother, she's a smart cookie, and it's pretty easy to figure out how to pull the bottom strand over the top strand and over the peg. It's basically that, over and over and over, until you have something useful. Finishing can be a bit trickier.

OK, its fun and addicting!

November 16 2006, 10:54 AM

I gave Bri hers last night and sent her to her room to get started. No problems, she figured it out easy, and was having a blast! Today she should be finishing it off. She took it to school to work on at recess. Between her and the other girls in class, they should be able to figure it out (fingers crossed! I suggested waiting till tonight when we could work on it together. But it will give her a larger sense of accomplishment if she masters it on her own.) Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that Bri is having a blast with it. I may have just found the "birthday gift of the year" for her girl friends!

I'd love to see more stuff that you have done! Can you do anything besides hats on the round ones? After outfitting the bears and baby dollss, I think Bri will be making hats, hats, and hats to donate to the newborn nursery at the hospital! That would make a good girl scout service project for her.

Well, let's see...

November 16 2006, 1:20 PM

The purse was made on a round loom. I'm told you can make scarves (either tubular ones, or just use the loom without closing the circle). There's a yahoo group that I joined for some more ideas, although I haven't had time to use them yet. It's called "loomroom." Someone on there was talking about making mittens, although I have no idea how you would accomplish this. I suspect there are all kinds of things you can do if you vary how many pegs you use and if you learn a handful of new stitches.

I hope she has fun with it - you should post pictures of her creations!

I'll have to post a few pictures of my hats...

I'll have to check out the KK. I tried to learn to knit this summer but I gave up pretty quickly!

I never got the hang of needles

November 14 2006, 9:40 PM

Admittedly, I didn't plug away at it for very long

I just find the KK much more intuitive, as far as the process goes. Of course, it's also pretty limited in what it can do, if you don't take the time to learn a few traditional stitches. And that's why I've stuck with hats so far...
