Wooden swing sets

We have a wooden swing set that came with the house. I have no idea how long it was here before we moved in, but we've had it for 8 years, and we've never done any kind of maintenance on it or taken care of it in any way... Aidan never really used it unless I was with him, pushing him on the swing. Eamonn, on the other hand, is way more independant and he wants to be all over it, sliding down the slide, playing in the playhouse, etc. And as a result, Aidan also wants to be on it more.

So, now I'm a little bit concerned about its strength. Do those swing sets need any kind of routine maintenance? Or is there anything I should be on the lookout for in terms of whether all of the swing connections are still sound, and such? It's really the swings I'm most concerned about - Aidan likes to swing high. And I want to be able to let them play together out there without my constant hovering supervision.

TIA!

Lisa
