Container gardening - anyone know anything about it?

I would love some splashes of color in my front yard, but I want it to be easy. A few pots of flowers here and there sound like a perfect solution, but I don't really know what's involved. Anyone have any tips? Or is someone like me better off buying a few hanging plants from the garden center and leaving it at that?

for your zone geraniums or petunias would make a big statement and are very low maintenance. Both are good in full sun or shaded sun. Herbs and veggies are also good in containers. I keep seasonal plants in containers on the porch and rotate them according to the season. I use succulents a lot-kalanchoes, sedums, agaves, echeverias, etc. You could also do something like that-they're very low maintenance.

Grasses also look cool-I have a few containers with different types in them.

Here's a couple of links that will give you some tips:

Take a look around the nursery and see what grabs you!

I'll definitely be checking those out soon! The weather around here is beautiful this week, and it would be perfect for doing a little work outside...

By now you see I have an opinion or thought on just about everything! Anyhoo- I only have containers in most of my front yard. I am a terrible water-er so I have found the perfect plant. I buy flat ofd Portchulacas(porch-alac-as) a colorful, drought friendly, shade/sun plant.
Basically I plant them. I try desperatley to remember to Miracle Gro them and most times I don't and these suckers are beautiful, colorful and hearty!
No green thumb here. COntainers rule because it is easy to repalce one plant if you have killed it from not watering it. :) Tried strawberries last summer-tsk tsk they do need water. I had no strawberries. May try again this summer. We like strawberries.<table align=center width=70% class=QuoteBox><tr><td><b>Quote:</b><br>TEXT</td></tr></table> <table align=center width=70% class=QuoteBox><tr><td><b>Quote:</b><br>TEXT</td></tr></table> <a href="null" target="_blank">null</a>

I'll have to google them and see. Sounds like just the thing for somebody like me, though!
