Response to Insuring shipments to customers

I had email asking me this question:

I think people would want to get an idea on what it might coat, extra to insure a package. I realize it depends on what it is, but is there a rough criteria on what it might cost?

My answer:
It would never be more than the post office would charge (which is $1.35 for the first $50, roughly $1 more for $50-$100, and another $ for each additional $100 after that). I’m tinkering with the idea of just adding $1/shipment and leaving it at that, but I haven’t done the calculations to know if that’s feasible.
