Must be a thunder parent!

I see it as Flames due to goaltending, although they did not replace lost players. Pens look stronger this year. Not sure yet about Scarboro teams, may surprise all and finish high. Knights will continue to be strong. Islanders may have got better.

So the teams still looking for players:

Willowdale - defenceman
West Hill - forward and defenceman
Aeros - forward and defenceman
Leaside - defenceman

Lots of West teams and AA teams still looking also. So here are the predictions....

Ice Raiders
Penguins
Leaside
Islanders
Ted Reeve
Knights
Hillcrest
Willowdale
West Hill
Aeros

Why?

Ice Raiders - Have performed well in playdowns and no reason that shouldn't continue. Were able to draw from folding SHA, so lots of players to choose from.

Penguins - Apparently have acquired players from the AA team. If true, will definitely be an improvement.

Leaside - Have lost some players but will still be strong. Well coached and disciplined. Will still be strong.

Islanders - New coach and a few AA players added. Will it be enough to turn things around? Probably enough for a bit of an improvement.

Ted Reeve - Status quo. Defence is big, but slow. Decent forwards and goaltending. Nothing spectacular, but solid.

Knights - Most of team returning, but weaknesses were exploited in playoffs. need to be tougher, but where will that come from after only one tryout and apparently losing only one player?

Hillcrest - New coach apparently, some new players as well. Definite speed issues but good group of kids. Could be surprise team in the East this year.

Willowdale - Not much change in players, which makes it tough to improve. Hard-working team, just lacking in talent. Could move up a few spots.

West Hill - Still drawing players, tough to compete this year. Both SHA teams weren't going to be strong and unfortunately it appears this will be the weaker one.

Aeros - Overhauled roster, but had no turnout at try-outs. Seems to be an on-going mess from last year.

Not bad, but definately misinformed about the Aeros. Team kept a solid core and the kids at tryouts were all new kids. Some AA kids from East and 1 from R. Hill., also some A kids from Pickering. This guy may come back stronger.

Ice Raiders will contend no doubt.....not sure about front runners though
Penguins maybe crack the top four at best.....need toughness down low, small forwards
Leaside, say what you want but always contenders....no matter how stuffy they are
Islanders lost a lot of talent...too bad cause they had the right parts but no direction
Ted Reeve...ya gotta look in the rear view cause they are always lurking, decent program
NY Knights can be beat with hard nosed grinding and muscle....better get bigger and faster
Hillcrest will move up...picked up great forwards who finish and shored up in goal also
W/Hill mostly the Agincourt Lions(SHA) will be hard pressed to make p/offs..but will make noise
Willowdale...who knows...hopefully will be competitive enough to keep the Aeros in basement
Aeros..lost leading scorer...signed kids who didn't even skate at tryouts...another dismall year

Still a big crap shoot with the way some of these boys are maturing and growing

Come on September!!
See ya all in the rinks soon

well, well, well - Knights and West Hill join the party at the Hillcrest tourney, chance for a real good season preview as each team is guaranteed 4 games - and you would have to think these teams will all cross paths at some point. Predictions for which team from the East will finish the highest in the tournament?

early bird tournaments mean nothing, except to get the players in game shape and to load the pockets of the organizers.

the A loop is going to be much better, as a whole bunch of good AA players came down this season. that said, the team going best in february will be the team to beat.

in the east at least 5 teams have a legit chance this season. in the west, you probably have 3 teams.

good luck to everybody.

I would definitely put the islanders ahead of Ted Reeve - and other teams saw how to beat the Knights in the playoffs, so perhaps giving Hillcrest an edge there too. Bottom line - there will be 6 teams tight at the top, I wouldn't want to be the other 4. Sorry Tom T.

Areos are entered in Hillcrest tourney that starts next week. You can count the number of Areos players on the bench to answer the posts of how many players the Areos have on the team.

We also get a first look at most of the east division and a couple of contenders in the west.

Now that we have those mickey mouse events called the G20 and G8 out of the way we can get down to what matters to most of us.. minor hockey. Let the games begin.

royals 3rd from the bottom? you clearly don't know what your talking about. um, the ice dogs were -29 from season before. with -29 who did they attract to their tryouts? to put them above beavers when they did win a game last season. beavers may have not been much higher but at least they improved slightly from season previous. rangers maybe cause they won't move to AA because it would be a challenge. Sharks are way too high on the list and Attack was the best overall for improving over previous season so they too can possibly move up.

Aero's lost 8-1 to West Hill, and 4-2 to an Oakville 'AE' team. TT son must have been in net, for the 8-1 thrashing, that kid couldn't stop a beach ball!

So far...

Islanders not playing well - surprising losses so far

Ted Reeve - playing 3 games against 'AE' teams, tough to judge, good challenge against 'A' Waxers coming up

Leaside - two wins against 'AE' teams, also have to play 'A' Waxers which should reveal more

Knights - a little disappointing at 1-2, interesting to see if they pull off a W Friday night

West Hill - biggest surprise in the tournament. Not as much depth as other teams, ride their top 5 pretty hard, but it has worked.

Aeros - we will just wait for the GO Aeros Go guy, its about all they have going at the moment

I have brought my kid in from the OMHA to play on a team in this loop - I am afraid to say which one since all anybody seems to do is attack on here. I am curious why there seems to be a disproportional amount of abuse directed towards the Aeros organization?

BTW, when your kid gets cut and shorted ice time, you'll trash your coach here too.

If Ice Raiders had decent defence and goaltending they would rule the east and the cities. Need to figure out how to keep the puck out of their net. Forwards look good on offence. Need to play defence too.
