Gear Questions for Nemesis Chassis/Dirt Track Racing

I'm having a problem understanding gear ratio's. On my kart I can change clutch gears from a 15 tooth to 20 tooth. The back axis gear usually ranges from 60 to 69. I understand that the larger the front gear, the more front end speed you will get out of the turns. But, how do you determine if you need more or less back gear and how do you determine if the front gear is right? Hope someone can help or recommend a book for me to read. Thanks!!!
