It's a 2003 Pontiac Montana with 40K miles on it. We got a pretty good deal, too, and we pick it up on Friday. Wheeeee!

But I have to share it with Neil. Bummer

I can't wait until Friday so I can take it for a joy ride

All that remains now is finding somewhere to get rid of Neil's car. The dealer offered us a measley $100 for it. It's probably worth more to us as a charitable donation! Maybe I'll put up a flyer in Shop Rite that says: "Oldsmobile. $500. Runs good." Either that or I'll call one of those numbers you see on billboards, advertising that they'll tow your car away for you if you donate it to their charity...

Lisa, do check into the charities.

We've donated three cars now to charity and it is a great tax savings. And since the last few yars we've always had to PAY taxes, it is nice getting that deduction.

The rules have changed since our last donation. I do believe that you cannot now automatically claim the bluebook listing but rather you have to wait for the charity to determine the car's value (which they have to account for--eg, if they are selling parts off of it then the true cost for which the parts actually sale. Or if they turn around and resale the car, then the amount the car actually resales for. So if you did donate your old car now, there should be plenty of time for you to have that info back before tax season.

Like YOUR new van (I'm still rooting that it will be ALL yours. Maybe the guys at work will rib Neil and he concede.)

Thanks for the info, Tracey.

I was seriously considering it before, and I think now, even more, that it's a good idea. We can claim it for more than we can sell it, most-likely, plus we'll get the feel-good factor of being charitable, to boot.
