Lisa, do you know what this is?

Booger has been getting little bumps on his back over the last few months that I thought were bug bites. He has wiggled under the deck a couple of times and Lord knows there are bugs under there! They were little bumps/patches of bumps but when they didnt seem to be going away, I shaved 2 small squares in his fur to see them better and keep an eye on them. They were scabbed over but seemed to be healing -just real slow. Well his fur in those squares is just about grown back out.

Over the last week- and especially the last couple of days- he has come up with lots of those scabby bumps all up and down his back from his hips to his shoulders. I couldnt see anything cause his fur was in the way and got worried when I felt his back and found his whole back was covered now! I shaved a big square on his back to see what this was and found this!!! Every inch of his back/shoulders is covered in this, though you cant see it. I shaved just a small portion of it.

Is this hives? An allergic reaction? Mange? Hot spots? His whole back is covered. Its hard, and swollen and I can tell it hurts him when I press on it. He isnt scratching any more than usual so Im not sure it itches. There is none of this at all on his belly, legs or face.

I brushed him real good to get all the loose hair and dander off him, and then I put him in the tub and rinsed him down real good. I didnt use soap because if this is a reaction to the shampoo I dont want to make it worse. They are open sores.

I gave him some Benedryl and will be calling the vet first thing in the morning. I can tell it hurts him when I push on it trying to restrain him enough to look at it, but as long as I leave it alone it doesnt seem to be bothering him too much so I think he will be ok til morning.
