42" even this month. I measured about the second week last month, so it's not surprising that I am only showing 1/4" growth since then. Only 3 inches to go to my goal length!

My measurement for this month is 41 1/2 inches. Last month was 42 1/2" and I had a 1 1/2 inch trim after that, so I had a 1/2 inch growth, which is pretty normal. I still need to trim more I think, but I am waiting it out for a while.

Measured 41 3/4 inches, so 1/4 inch growth this month. This is my hair air dried with nothing done to it. You can really see the layers I put in several months ago in this photo!

This month's measurement is 42 1/2 inches, same as last month, so no growth. I have been shedding excessively and had a lot of breakage over the last 6 weeks, so I wonder if my hair is just going through a phase of some sort. I have never recorded no growth in the last two years since I have been measuring.

Yeah!!! I have officially reached my goal of 45 inches length. This is the longest my hair has been and I am of a mind to grow until I find out what my terminal length is. My next goal is 48" which should happen about the first of the new year if I don't have to trim.

Well, I trimmed off an inch on Saturday and my measurement is back to 45 inches, so I had a pretty good month growth wise. My ends were tangling really bad and even though the ends looked good, very few splits, I went ahead & trimmed an inch. I was going to do 3 inches, but I wanted to see how it reacted to just one inch first. The splits that I do have are all along the length, not on the very ends, so unless I trim off 8 inches, it isn't going to help much. I don't have the time or patience to twist & trim all the splits along the length right now, so I will have to see how it goes this month & decide if I want to trim any more off. I really just have not been happy with my hair at all lately. The shedding has not improved and I am just frustrated with it for some reason. I may have to start varying my routine to see if it helps any. I have actually considered doing a major trim of several inches, but I know I would regret it, so I am trying to deal with this phase my hair seems to be going through.

I measured 45 1/2 inches this morning. I haven't trimmed yet and I am debating on whether or not to keep trimming at a blunt hemline. I really liked the U shape better.
1/3/08 - trimmed off 1/2 inch, so I am at 45 inches.

I got my usual 1/2 inch growth, so I am at 45 1/2. I have been trimming off 1/2 inch for the past 4 months, but I did not trim this time. Honestly, I can't tell that it is helping at this point, so I am going to let it go for a while.
My personal life has, shall we say, left much to be desired lately and I haven't been happy with much of anything, including my hair. I (almost) cut off my hair completely about 5 days ago. I was having an awful time and just had the urge to chop it totally off. Luckily, I resisted it and did not do something I know I would regret. Hopefully, things will start looking up from here.

I measured in at 45 1/2, which is only 1/4 inch growth this past month. I remembered to measure my "bangs" and they were 17 inches, so I have had 2 inches growth on them in two months.

Okay, this is weird, I have never gone 2 months without growth. I still measured 45 1/2 on the length, but 18 on the bangs, which would be a 1/2 inch growth on them. I hope GM's theory isn't correct on my hair!
I'm still at the same measurements - 45 1/2 length 18 on the bangs. I did cut between 1/2 to 1 inch a few weeks ago, so I obviously got some growth, but it has definately slowed down.
I only got 1/4 inch growth, but I am at 45 3/4 inches, which is the longest my hair has ever been. I was at this length exactly 1 year ago, but my hair was cut in a V shape then, so that was only the point. Now it is cut almost straight across at that length. Still looking to make 48 inches.
This may be the last time I get to say this: This is my longest hair ever - 47 inches length with 20 inches on my bangs. I am going to cut for sure, I just have to decide how much I am cutting. The ends are tangling really bad and starting to thin out and just look unhealthy to me. I have considered cutting all the way back to waist, but I am not sure yet. I am definatley cutting at least 4 inches. I will update here after I cut.
I measured 45 inches length. This 1st week of January, I cut around 3 inches off, so that is why I am going backwards. We had a major ice storm and have been without power for the past week, so I haven't had time to even think about my hair, so I still haven't decided how much more I want to cut.

I am at 44 inches length, which is exactly where I was 2 years ago. It seems so strange to me that what feels like a huge cut to me no one else notices. I basically cut off 2 years of growth which is a lot to me. There is no doubt my hair is still very long, but now I am re-thinking cutting more. I only layered the bottom 2 inches, so I may end up cutting that back to one length, but not for now. I really don't like my side layers. It looks good when my hair is down, but I hardly ever wear it down and it is a pain for updos and it seems to make my hair more prone to split ends. I am thinking of cutting the fringe in the front from chin length to cheekbone so I have a little bit of bangs to break up the "severe" look of buns and let the rest grow back out. We'll see.

Itrimmed another inch or so and I am still at 44 inches. My hair has been so awful lately that I have neglected it. I really need a new water softener as our old one is not working and our well water is very hard. I am going to start looking and try to get one before the end of the year. Last night, I did a clarifying treatment with baking soda, a vinegar rinse, and I used a protein conditioner. It worked pretty well. I need to trim the splits up the legth of my hair and do a deep conditioning treatment this weekend & I hope I will have time to do it. It has been over a year since I have done any deep conditioning. The garden is taking up all my time extra time right now.

Current length is 44 1/4 inches. I cut full bangs (right below my eyebrows)last week from the fringe that was just below chin length. I am not used to them yet. I figured I might as well try it out now andif I don't like it I can always grow them back out since it was already at chin length. I will try to post a picture soon.

I like this because it is versatile. It can be elegant & dressy as shown in the first two pics with a nice hair comb(this is a victorian comb from my collection) or it can be funky and casual as shown in photo three fastened with a clip and fan the ends out more. How I did it: First put hair in a ponytail, do a basic topsy tail (take the pony up and over through the middle of the band). Seperate hair into two sections, make a braid of each section so that you have a two. Loop the ends of the braids up and under through the middle of the pony tail band and secure with a comb, clip or hairstick and arrange the ends fanned out as much as you like.

First divide hair into three sections. Braid each section so that you have a total of three braids. Then braid the three braids together to make one big braid. Wraped in a bun & secured with a hairstick Here are some variations: First put hair in a ponytail (I put mine just above the middle of the back of my head). Then divide into three equal sections. Braid each section so that you have 3 individual braids. Now braid the 3 sections into 1 braid. 1st variation is just to loop the braid up to one side and secure (I used a hair scroo) 2nd variation is to wrap into a bun. 3rd variation - I looped around once as if to make a bun and then brought up the tail leaving a large loop (the size will depend on your length) and secured with a hair scroo. 1st pic is back view, 2nd is side view. 4th variation - This photo shows the 3 braids we made above with the ends looped up to the base of the ponytail and secured with a scrunchie. 5th variation - MY NEW FAVORITE! In this photo, I took the 3 individual braids and wrapped them into a simple bun and secured with a hairstick. 1st pic is back view with my baby on my shoulder, 2nd is side view, doesn't it look cool?? 6th variation - Same as 4th exept I secured with a clip & fanned out the ends instead of hiding them underneath. 1st pic is back view, 2nd is side view. 7th variation - This is kind of a funky medieval looking style. Instead of looping all 3 braids, I looped two & secured with a clip & used the 3rd to wrap around my head to look like a crown and secured it with a hairstick, my daughter loved this! I threw these together quickly or I would have used something that looked better than the clip to secure, but it was fastest for the pics. I hope you enjoy them, I sure had fun coming up with them and I am thrilled to have a new bun to do!

First, put your hair in a ponytail. High or low depending upon how you want it to look. Next, put a hairstick behind your ponytail holder horizontally. Divide your hair into two equal parts and take each part and put it up, over and behind the hair stick (in the direction towards your face). Now wrap them in opposite directions around the ponytail holder and looping around hairstick. I simply tuck the ends under my hair and it holds, but you can use pins, claws or a scrunchie around the base to hold it.
In this version (#2), the instructions are exactly the same except after bringing the hair up & over the stick, I then cross the two sections from one side to the other before wrapping it around the base. For the braided version, braid hair in two sections after putting it in a ponytail & then follow the same instructions. This is a braided version and with my Peacock hairstick from Sticks & Stones.

Simple style to embelish a ponytail. After putting hair in a ponytail, make a small seperate section and braid it. Wrap the braid around the base of the ponytail and fasten with a hair scroo or pin.

Here are photos I took of my daughter with a couple of updos I created when she was a Kindergarten attendant at the school prom and for a little miss contest in our town. In the first photo, what I did was put her hair in a ponytail and then I made 10 small 3 strand braids. Next I looped them all up and secured with the ends all fanned out. Then I curled the ends with a curling iron and attached ribbons around the base. In the next two photos, I must confess I don't really remember exactly how I did it! I know I started a Dutch perimeter braid behind one ear and worked to the other ear and then finished the tail and wrapped it around her head to look like a crown braid. Before I started I left out a small piece to do a little accent braid to loop across the bottom & then I put several jewelled bobby bins all over. I hope you enjoy the photos and maybe they provide some inspiration since my instructions are lacking. These photos are from four years ago! I've got to start taking more photos of the styles I do on my daughter's hair. I only wish I had someone to do mine!

First, here is a basic topsy tail ponytail.
In the second photo, I have added what I call an uneven braid. It is a basic braid, only you use two small sections on the outside and leave the middle section large when you braid.
The 3rd photo, I call a Herringbone Heart. After the basic topsy tail pony, I made a single herringbone braid and secured with a band, brought up the ends and put a clip to hold it up where the band was. Next I divided my end into two parts and brought each end around to the bottom which looks like a heart. I tucked the ends and that's it.
For the last photo, I made three topsy tails and decorated.

An infinity bun is a sideways Figure 8. Instead of pulling the top coil up, take it to the side and secure. In the first picture, I did it loosly and left my curled ends fanned out around the bun. The second picture is a tighter Infinity. The 3rd pic is a braided Infinity. More variations.

This used to be my favorite hairstyle when my hair was shoulder to bra strap length, but now it's alot harder to do. I have to wrap my hair under the first coil twice before it works and I usually leave out the ends as shown in the first pic. The next 3 pics show that I made a bun on top of the twist and secured with a Ficcarre and a hairstick in the last photo.
9/26/07 - I found some great clips that are for thick hair and I used 2 to make a french twist and then left long curls hanging over it in these photos. Back & side view:

This is a simple style. Part hair down the middle and make a bun out of each side. In the first photo, I have secured with bobby pins and it looks a little messy. In the second photo, I just slipped a scrunchi around the base and it makes it much neater and more secure also.
I left the ends out, but they could be tucked under as well for a different look.

I cannot, no matter how I try do all of my hair, it is too long and too thick, but I really like this style so I came up with a version I can do. I took the top half of my hair and twisted per the instructions above and only did about half of it and left the other half out. Here are photos:

This is a simple style I do often. My hair is so long & heavy that it kind of droops in a ponytail, so I came up with this solution. I divide hair in two (top part is above ears, bottom is below) and put the top part high on the back of my head, then flip it over my forehead to keep it out of the way while I do the bottom part in a pony in about the middle of my head. Then I flip the top back down where it lies right on top and beside the bottom pony. Here is a photo:

For this, I divided my hair in two sections crosswise and put the top section into a ponytail. Then I wraped the bottom section around the pony tail into a bun.

I divided my hair crosswise in two sections and put each in a ponytail, one directly over the other the same as I did in the Double Pony. Then I twist both sections around each other forming a twisted rope. Then I wrapped in around in a bun. The first photo shows it loosly wrapped and secured with pins. The second shows that I wrapped the bun a little tighter and secured with sticks. It is the exact same style, but you can see that it looks different just by adjusting the tension. The other pics show Ficcarres & Hairsticks holding the bun.

My son named this one. It's actually a very pretty style, but hard for my to do on my own hair. First put hair into a ponytail. You can divide into as many sections as you want. For this photo, I did five sections. Then twist each section and secure it with two bobby pins crossed together and tuck under any loose ends. The hairsticks are for decoration only, they aren't holding the style.

For this bun, hold all your hair in the left hand as if to do a ponytail. Using your right, bring the hair up over and around the left hand and grasp the hair with the fingers of your left hand. Hold the hair on top of your left hand with your right hand while pulling the length of hair in your left fingers through to form a knot. Wrap the length around the base of the knot you have made to form the bun and secure.
Variation 1 - follow instruction above except before wrapping the length around the base, but after having made your knot, braid the length. I have secured with 2 hairsticks as shown photo 1 (back) & 2 (side).
Variation 2 - Curl the ends of your hair. Follow instructions above, but instead of tucking your ends under, arrange the curls all around and then secure. Back, side, & front views:
Variation 3 - hold all hair in the left hand as if to do a ponytail. Using your right hand, reach over your left shoulder and under your left arm holding the hair to grasp the length and wind it around the base once or twice depending on length and grasp it with the fingers of the left hand that is holding the pony. Now take the length through the loop of hair you just created starting the bun just like tying a knot. Then wrap the remaining legth around the base of the knot and secure. I secured it with two hair scroos and used the hair stick just as decoration in photo 1.

The instructions can be found at the Loom, you just make two - one on top & bottom. This is a little too funky looking for me, but I thought someone else might like it.

I did this style on my daughter's hair. First, I put the hair in a ponytail. Then I divided hair into 4 equal sections and braided each section for a total of 4 braids. I took the 2 "outside" braids and wraped around the pony base to create a bun around the two braids left hanging down. I also fanned the ends out on each side and secured with a hairstick that I made for her for Valentine's Day.

This is a slide show of braids I have done on my hair. Included are a French braid, Dutch braid, Herringbone braid, English braid, Uneven braid, Pigtail braids and a Rope braid.
For the Uneven braid all you do is take two small sections and one large section and do a regular English or 3 strand braid. For the Rope braid, take two equal sections and twist them around each other.

By making small adjustments, you can vary any hairstyle in many ways. I do these three things a lot and even my daughter will think I have come up with another style.
1. Simply by parting your hair to the side instead of down the middle, gives any updo a different look. And you can vary the degree of the part from slightly off center to a deep part. This will work for braids too.
2. Another way to change the look of any updo is to change the placement on your head. If you usually wear it smack in the middle of your head, make it higher or lower. For a braid, instead of wearing it down, loop the end up at different lengths for an elegant updo.
3. This is my favorite way. By adjusting the tension of your bun or braid, you can make the same style look completely different. Try it and see for yourself. A tight french braid looks totally different from one that has been done loosly. The same goes for any bun.
Here is an example of my Rope Bun. At first glance, these styles look completely different. The only difference is the first photo is done at a normal tension and the second is done at a looser tension.
Here is a regular french braid with curls, then done loosly and put up partially.
A side part on regular cinnamon bun for a change
Try one of these options on your favorite style and see how you can make it into 2 or more differnt styling options.

7/4/07 - Decided to try doing some buns on the side of my head instead of the back. I really liked a couple of them. The first one is a regular bun done on the side of my head. The next two are a side braided bun- back & side view. The next two are a partial figure 8 done on the side - back & side view. The next two are a side knot bun. The next is a very sloppy chinese bun done on the side. The last two are my favorites. I did a regular side bun, but the top kind of flopped over and I secured it with hairsticks and it looked pretty good that way; a back and front view.

Start by wrapping (loosely) as if to do a regular cinnamon bun. After 1 or 2 coils around, flip the top coil up into a figure 8 shape. The 1st pic is done tighter, the 3rd has loose curls left out, the 4th is done loosly & the 5th is braided.

Simply twist and loop coils around each other the way a cinnamon roll looks. You can lay it flat against the head or put the coils more on top of each other. Can be done loose or tight for completely different looks.

I started with two basic perimeter braids. A perimeter braid is like a french braid except you only add hair as you're braiding on the outside edge. On the inside, you work it just like a regular braid.
These are pic of it down, pinned together & with a claw.
This is a perimeter crown braid (back, side, front)

I started this wrapping as if to do a cinnamon bun. When I got a half a coil done, I flipped it over to the side like an Infinity bun. I kept twisting and flipped another section downward and kept twisting more and flipped the last section to the opposite side as the first. It is hard to explain & I'm sure I am not doing an adequate job, but hopefully you will enjoy the picture anyway.

My hair is too long for a decent looking French Twist now, but I love the style, so I try to come up with variations I can do. I start this off as a French Twist and then loop the remaining coil around my head and secure. It is a very different look.

I started with a very high ponytail and when pulling my hair through the elastic the last time, I only pulled it through part way to make a pouffy loop, then I wrapped the rest of the length of my hair around the loop to form a bun. The first photo is done high on the head with a short loop. The second pic is done low on the head with a long loop.

Here are pics of a couple of sock buns. The first set of pics shows the bun and two accent braids.
The second set is just the bun.
To make a sock bun, put hair in a ponytail. Use a form or rolled up sock around the base of the pony tail. Arrange you hair all around the sock evenly and secure with a scrunchi. Wrap the remaining hair all around the base.

For this style, wrap hair into a coil and loop around loosely once, making it whatever length you prefer. Then wrap the ends into a cinnamon bun on top.

For this style, I start by making a high pony tail, but only pull the hair part of the way through the elastic on the last time wrapping forming a loop whatever length you want. Next, I wrap the ends around the loop and secure with a pretty jewelled claw.

This is a very tall wicked looking bun. To make it, I pull my hair up as if I am going to do a very high pony tail. Holding the hair in one hand, I use my other hand to pull up the length of hair about 6 inches from my head and grasp all in one hand. Using my other hand, I start wrapping the length around the six inches on top, going up & then back down and tucking the ends under. I use two hairsticks to hold it up. The first pic is a front view, next a back view and last a side view.

To do this style, bring all hair back as if to do a ponytail and start twisting really tight. The hair will coil up on it's own with the tight twist and then tuck ends under & secure.

Put hair into a ponytail. Section off two equal pieces - one from the right and one from the left of the ponytail and bring them forward over the front of your shoulders. With the remaining ponytail, wrap it into a cinnamon bun and secure it. Next, braid one section of hair and take it diagonally across the bun and secure at the bottom. Do the same on the other side so that you now have an "X" across the bun with your braids. Now wrap the braids around the base of the bun in opposite directions and secure them.

Sorry, but I can't post instructions with these now. As you can see, the hair I cut in the front is still long enough to pull back, so you can't tell that I cut it. These are variations of the knot bun. I just turned the hair different in one style & did it looser in another.

From now on, I will post any updates under this section by date so it will be easier to find rather than having each post be listed by the date as the title as before, because then they are all over the place.
I have been considering cutting my hair back to waist length for some time now. Last week, I had pretty much decided I was going to do it and I was also thinking of cutting the bangs I am trying to grow out back because they are driving me crazy. As soon as I made that decision, I started getting positive comments on my hair about how pretty it was almost immediately. I was getting at least one compliment per day for the last week, so I have started to rethink my decision and decided, for now anyway, to keep it. I had my daughter take some pics and I was kind of amazed that I am almost to my goal of mid-thigh. I think I have been measuring wrong or something, because I haven't been showing hardly any growth, but the pictures don't lie, so I am kind of excited about it. These aren't the greatest pics on here, but you get the idea. You can really tell in the 1st picture, but my hair is curled & in a ponytail in the last two, so it's not as noticable.
In the first photo, you can see where the bangs I cut are grown out to, right below my shoulders. They are now too long to pin to the side, but they stick out everywhere when I have a braid or bun which is really frustrating.
*Sigh* I am so unhappy with my hair right now. After reaching 47 inches length, I had decided to cut because my hair is tangling so bad and starting to thin at the ends. So, Friday night, I cut off about 3 inches and it made absolutely no difference. I don't know what to do. I was trying not to cut it all off at once and go in increments until I could see a difference, so I was hoping - but I am going to have to cut more. My fear is that I am going to cut off a foot of hair and still be having problems. I am trying to wait two weeks before I cut again, but the tangling is frustrating me so much that I don't know if I can make it. I did remember to have dd take a pic before I cut it and I was amazed at how long it was. The only problem is that I can never wear it down. It is in the way too much and it tangles horribly. So, I am having to decide - Is it worth having hair this long if I can never wear it down? I am the only one who ever sees it or even knows how long it is. I wear it up in a bun all day and when I take it down at night, I braid it, so it's never really down anyway. I think my husband would like me to cut it back to at least waist length and I am really considering it. I just don't want to cut it all at once, so I will cut 3-4 inches at a time until I am happy with it I guess.
I cut my hair again yesterday. My SIL is a stylist and I let her cut bangs and some layers and about 2-3 more inches off the length. My bangs are chin length and there are layers going down from them to the legth along the sides. I cut a few inches off the length, so I am no longer at classic. I only layered the back about 2 inches, so it is not noticable other than my hair feels lighter and thinner to me. I am not sure if I like it yet or not as I really have not had time to try to style it yet. It's different anyway and I was in a major rut, so I can always grow it back out.
My SIL tried to talk me into cutting all the way back to waist length, but I told her I wanted to do this in increments to make sure how I want it. I am going to have to get used to it as is now before I decide if I want to take off anymore.
I had my hair back up in a bun when my husband came in, but he saw all the hair she cut and about had a stroke. It did look like ALOT of hair, but it is only part of the sides that was layered, so I had 2 foot long pieces of hair and it did look scary. It is still long, probably half way down my butt, but the layers took off alot of hair. I will have to reserve my opinion until I have time to get used to it. Here are pics after the cut.

I am neglecting my little hair journal dreadfully, but maybe I will have more time over the winter when I will slow down a little at work. Anyway, I did a small trim last night, probably between 1/2 to 1 inch. I have been considering cutting back to waist length for a while, but I haven't been able to do it, so just small trims for now. I also did a henna & hot oil conditioning treatment which always leaves my hair so full. I feels twice as thick as normal when it first dries.
My "bangs" are bothering me. I was thinking of cutting them all the way again just becuase they are so annoying, but then if I did not like them, it would be at least 2 years to get them back to where they are now, so I am trying to deal with them as best as possible. I would like to take some updated photos of the length soon and I need to add some bun pics of course. There never seems to be enough time!
My first journal entry! My hair type is 1bnii and 41 3/4 inches as of last measurement and light brown with all different color highlights throughout. Right now, I am using Ida's Shampoo Bar(Egg, Beer & Honey) and Nature's Gate Herbal Conditioner(to which I have added 2T. of Jojoba Oil to the bottle). I use ACV w/EO rinses every other wash and Monoi Oil on my ends always at night when I braid for bed and if needed in the morning also.
I shampoo twice a week, unless I have been working overtime in the garden and need to add another shampoo. I have tried scalp only washes and just can't get the hang of it. I will do it if I am crunched for time and it looks oily, but I really prefer a full wash. I wash in the evening, so on a wash day, I will put either jojoba oil w/EO on the bottom 1/3 of my hair or my version of Shea Butter Conditioning Cream/Souffle and wear it up in a bun all day as a great pre-shampoo conditioning treatment.
I braid my hair every night before bed. This is on of the best things I have done to improve the condition of my hair. I knew it was tangling during the night because I toss & turn, but I never realized the amount of damage it was causing my hair until I started braiding and saw the difference. Now, I can't sleep without it braided because of the length, I get tangled in it and my hubby sleeps on it. I tried using a sleep tail recently, because I don't always want my hair wavy from the braid, but I didn't like it at all. I felt like I had a 10lb weight hanging from the back of my head. It hurt my neck and I could not get comfortable, so after two attempts, I gave it up and went back to braiding.
I wear my hair french braided or in a bun of some sort about 90% of the time. This has also helped the condition of my hair because it is protected. My hair tangles a lot, so I have to be careful of breakage. I have posted several styles on the Loom lately and I will link them here permentantly on my journal whenever I figure out how!
Hopefully, I will figure out how to link and list my hair recipes, styles and growth chart here sometime soon.

I am posting this late! In July, I wore my hair down about 50-60% of the time as opposed to 10% of the time. I was astounded at the amount of damage my hair received from this. I mean really shocked! I am going to go back to my normal routine of wearing it up or braided the majority of the time. I am also going to have to do a major trim soon, but for now I am putting it off. I also tried using Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Shampoo/Conditioner. This smell is so good! However, it leaves my hair very limp and greasy looking, kind of like Ida's shampoo bars did. I also tried several Karma shampoo bars this month and happily, I liked them all. So, I am going to alternate between the Karma, Godiva & Trichomania bars and Nature's Gate Herbal conditioner with Jojoba Oil added.

This may seem rather obvious to others, but I only figured it out about a year ago. My hair is notorious for tangling, especially when wet. The only way I can comb it is to use this method. I bring all of my hair over my left shoulder to the front. I start at the bottom and work my way up combing through it to remove tangles. The trick is to keep ahold of my hair in one hand while combing with the other. The only time I let go of my hair is to move the comb through it and then I immediately grab hold again. Even if I think my hair is completely tangle free and I try to comb through it without doing this I always hit a snag and it tangles again. I was amazed at how well this works and also that it took me so long to figure out something so simple! Anyway, I wanted to share it in case there is anyone else out there as slow as me!

I tried to "undo" some of the damage I commited last month when I was wearing my hair down so much. I did a lot of heavy oiling this month and went back to wearing my hair up the majority of the time. Because I was oiling so much and heavily, I needed a shampoo that would remove the oil without stipping out the moisture, so I have been using Queen Helene Placenta Shampoo With Panthenol and Nature's Gate Herbal conditioner when needed. I did a heavy oiling almost before every shampoo twice weekly and I kept Monoi Oil on the bottom 4 inches of hair at all times. My hair did not look the greatest this month because the oiling left it lank & heavy, but I had it wrapped in a bun mostly anyway. I also did a minor S & D on my length, so overall I am happy with the results.

I have been washing once per week this month. I still oil my ends daily iwth Monoi, but on the day or night before I plan to shampoo, I have been doing a heavy oiling with jojoba & leaving it in as long as possible and using Lush Godiva shampoo bar with no conditioner after. It seems to be working well so far. It is just hard to go for an entire week. I really should scalp wash, but I just do not like it. I have been drying my hair part way in front of the space heater (bad, bad girl, I know), but I stay about 2 feet in front of it and don't get my hair bone dry.

I have been going a week between washings, but the heat is officially here, so I will have to start doing at least twice a week soon. I work out in the garden too much to be able to go a full week during the summer months. My routine for the past 5 weeks has been different. I have been doing a daily oil on my ends with monoi at night when I do my sleep braid. I have been doing a heavy pre-wash conditioning with either jojoba oil or creamy shea butter souffle, washing with Queen Helene Placenta Shampoo with Panthanol and (GASP), no regular conditioner after shampooing. I can't believe I have went this long without a regular conditioner! It seems to be working well so far. I have been wearing my hair up mostly as usual, but it is getting so dark from being protected from the sun. I have been toying with lightening it up a bit with lemon juice. Still undecided if I will cut off another inch after I measure on the first to see how much growth I have gotten this past month.

All during the month of May, I tried using Chagrin Valley shampoo bars again. I wanted them to work so badly - but unfortunately they just don't for me. I tried using them alone, with conditioner, after clarifying, with vinegar rinses; I even bought a filter for my shower head even though I have a water softener, but nothing worked. So, sadly, I am going to give up using them and try something else. For now, I am going back to Lush shampoo bars & Nature's Gate Herbal conditioner.

I have been trying several different things on my hair. I promised I would give the shampoo bars from Chagrin Valley at least a month. It's been 3 weeks and so far not so good. My hair is so clean in the shower that it actually squeaks when I rinse it out. But it takes longer to dry and it is coarse feeling insteady of silky. The bottom half of my hair is very dry and the top half is slightly oily looking. It is very strange. And it feels as if I have some sort of residue from the soap on my hair. It is also tangling much worse. I have been using the same bar for 3 weeks, so tonight I am going to try a different one and if I do not have better results, I will quit using them.
I have also tried using a couple of different rinses which are not working at all. Both rinses were leave in's that had honey in them. I have tried using honey on my hair in different ways and I never have good results, my hair does not like it at all.
I was so frustrated with my hair last night that I wanted to cut it and I did, but I limited myself to 2 1/2 inches. I am going to try not to cut anymore until I have found a routine my hair responds to. Actually, my ends aren't split that bad, but the last 5 inches have splits all along the length which are very hard & time consuming to take care of. Even though, I have been applying oil to the ends, they just felt realy dry last night and I decided to cut. If something does not work soon, I am probably going to cut back to waist length. I have even considered going all the way back to mid-back, but I will definately take it in small steps.

This is my absolute favorite oil. I have been using it for about 3 years now. It comes in several wonderful scents and lasts forever. My hair loves it. It absorbs quickly and doesn't leave my hair looking oily like the other oils I use. This is why I use it as a daily oil. I highly recommend this product.
However, I recently discovered there is a Monoi Shampoo and of course, I had to try it. I wanted to like this shampoo very much, but I have to say that it is probably the worst shampoo I have ever used. It really stripped my hair. I used it 3 times and then gave it up. The only good thing it had going was the scent and I can use the oil for that. I do not recommend using the shampoo at all.

I recently made a purchase from Snowdrift Farms for the first time. I was really pleased with everything I recieved and it was all packed very well. I ordered Jojoba, Grapeseed, Sweet Almond and Essential Oils. I also ordered Honey Dust, which I love! I use it instead of powder for the body. It works great and it is edible, which Hubby appreciates (Ha!) The order was shipped fast and they were very kind in sending about 10 samples of other products (soap, EO, etc). The prices were excellent also so I will definately be using them in the future. This is the link: http://www.snowdriftfarm.com

Based upon a recommendation from Fox at the Loom, I ordered from http://www.natureswildchild.com and was very happy with my purchase. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is superb. I ordered shea butter and virgin de coco creme. All was packed well and arrived timely. I will definately re-order from them in the future.

I have made purchases from The Essential Oil Company in the past, but have switched to Snowdrift Farms. The Essential Oil Company is an excellent vendor and the quality of their products is exceptional, however, they do have a minimum purchase of $50.00, which is not good unless you are purchasing alot of items at one time. Their prices are higher than Snowdrift Farms also, so although I do recommend them, it would be for someone who is ordering in high quantities or for a hard to find essential oil.

I recently discovered this website while searching for an alternative place to purchase my Monoi Oil. They are the lowest priced on Monoi and seem to be very competitive on other items as well. I ordered several bottles of Monoi at a savings of $3 per bottle from what I had been paying. I also ordered the Nature's Gate Herbal Conditioner from them. All the items I ordered were individually wrapped and all was packaged well. They have a flat rate for shipping which is very reasonable and it arrived timely. I will be using them again soon. I love Amazon.com! That is the first place I go when I am searching for just about anything. I ordered some Lush products from Amazon recently and each item was about $1 cheaper than to order off of Lush's website. You are still getting the products direct from Lush, they just have it set up to order through Amazon. I was really happy with my purchase. I had heard that shipping could be a problem when ordering direct through Lush's website, but I got everything quickly through Amazon and enjoyed the savings. They have just about any and every product you can think of there and you can search by the name (ex. Aubrrey Organics) or by the type of product (ex. Shampoo) so that is convenient. I have used Amazon for several years for every type of product imaginable and I have never had a bad experience, so I highly recommend them. The site is http://amazon.com

I have used this product line off and on for about 5 years. I use the shampoo, which is called Cleanse, the conditioner, Condition and the deep conditioning treatment, called Strengthen. I find it very mild. There is not alot of sudsing in the Shampoo so I do not use it if I have used alot of oil for conditioning beforehand. It is not good as a clarifier. The conditioner leaves my hair very silky with alot of "slip". I used to use this line exclusively until about 1 year ago when I started experimenting with other things. It seems to work better for me now at my current length when I stop for a few months and then use it for a while again. I have always had really good results from this and so it remains in my arsenal of products to rotate.
7/20/07 - It figures - as soon as you have a dependable product you love, they go and discontinue it. I haven't been able to find it anywhere and I only have about 1/2 bottle left, so I will hoard it for now. This was a great product, not sure why the company discontinued it.

This is what I use instead of scalp washing to go longer between shampoos. I love this stuff! It is so silky and smells great. I use this more as a body powder than for my hair, but I still wanted to list a review here. I mix mine with cornstarch or another really fine powder such as Lush's Silky Underware. It is so great for the body, very conditioning and makes skin silky smooth. It's also edible, which can be a good thing for DH's if you use it before bed! I brush this over the top of my hair and blend it in with a BBB. It really absorbs the oil well and doesn't make hair look dirty like baby powder does. Just be sure to only use it on dry hair & body, it will become sticky if you apply it while wet! Here is the link for where I buy mine: http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/honey-powder.html

This is supposed to be rich enough to not need conditioner. Let me tell you, I am a conditioner girl, always, so although I did not use a regular after shampoo conditioner, I still used a pre-wash conditioner. I used about 1 Tablespoon of Shea Butter Creamy Souffle to saturate my ends good before washing. First of all, I LOVE the smell. It is strong and if you do not like Jasmine, you won't like this. But if you do, it is heavenly. It lathers very well and my hair felt clean, but not dry. I did not do a ACV rinse because I wanted to see how much the scent would linger when my hair dried. I was still worried about not using conditioner afterwards, but my hair felt great, so the pre-wash worked with it pretty good. One drawback, this bar is not as hard as the Karma Koomba one, so it won't last as long and I probably will only use it ocassionally because of this. As strong-smelling as the bar was, I really expected it to leave more of a scent in my hair when it dried, but it was just enough, not over-powering. In my opinion, a great product if you love the smell of Jasmine!

This bar is very hard and I wondered at how it would possibly lather, but lather it did! I really like the smell and it's my favorite color(green)! I rubbed it over my soaking wet hair in the shower and with just a few swipes I had a great lather. It rinsed well and left my hair with a clean, but not stripped feeling. I also did an ACV rinse and used Nature's Gate Herbal Conditioner after shampooing. My hair is soft and full of volume. Because the bar is so hard, I think it will last for a long time. I use a little plastic soap saver to store mine on in the shower, so it can dry out again after each use. I will definately keep this in my regular rotation. Here is a photo taken after the first time I used it.

This bar is solid, but it is a different texture than the Karma & Godiva, it is like a regular body soap. It is also about twice the size of the others, which is a good thing. The smell is not as strong, but it is wonderful, very coconutty, clean & fresh. It lathered well, but as with the others, your hair should be soaking wet when you apply. My hair was squeaky clean, but did not feel dry. I used the Nature's Gate conditioner after and my hair was very manageable when dry. I will continue to use this in rotation with the others.

This is a very thick & creamy shampoo. I use this mainly when I have done a heavy oiling. It cleanses very well, but does not strip or dry the hair out and I don't have to use a conditioner afterward. It is also very economically priced.

This looks so good and it has seaweed which is supposed to make the hair really soft, but as much as I want to like it, I just don't. It seems to iritate my scalp and make it itchy. It smells like the ocean. I guess I will use it up as a regular body soap and go back to my usuals.

http://www.chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com/ I love their soaps, especially the complexion bars and the Chocholate Almond Soap. I tried the Honey, Beer & Egg shampoo bar about 2 years ago and my hair did not respond well at all to it. I thought I would give it another try and so I ordered the Babassu & March Mallow and Olive Babassu to try out. I will post individual reviews for the products as I use them. As far as quality & customer service goes I do recommend this site. I have been using the complextion bars for about 2 years now.

I just started using this one, so I will add to this review later. There has not been any of their complexion soaps that I have tried that I have not liked. This leaves my skin very soft and moisturized. I don't experience the tightening effect I get with some of the other bars, but very smooth skin. I will like to use this one on days my skin feels a little dried out.

I bought this soap after reading a review by someone who is using it as a conditioner for their hair. I haven't used it yet so I will have to add to this review. I admit I am skeptical about using it as a conditioner, but even if I don't like it for that I know I can use it as a body soap. I really like the natural scent and the ingrediants listed.

This one works really well for me. I keep it in the shower to use. It has a nice tightening effect on the skin from the clay, but it is not drying. It leaves my skin feeling very clean.

This is my favorite complexion soap and I have been using it for the last 2 years. It lathers nice and leaves my skin clean & soft. I like to lather it up and leave it on my face for a couple of minutes before rinsing for a mini-facial that really leaves the skin feeling tight & toned. It also has a great smell to it.

I tried this a couple of years ago and wanted so much to like it, but it did not work for me at all. I lived with lank lifeless hair for over a month while trying it. She has a new version now with extra honey that I want to try and I am trying a couple of others with good results so far on them so I am assuming it is just this particular bar that didn't work out and not all the shampoo bars she offers. I will post more when I have been using them a little longer.

I can't belive it never occured to me before now to write a review for Fox. I have several hairsticks that she customed designed for me that I love. I also have many of her ready made designs. The link is: http://www.longhairloom.com/stickshome.html
I cannot recommend her enough. She is the sweetest person & can make up anything you want or even if you just know you want a certain color stone, she will come up with some designs to show you for you to choose from. I have tons of pictures in my styling instructions that show her hairsticks and below is a photo.

The neutral henna I was using for conditioning treatments was discontinued, so I tried something different this time. It is called Lights & Brights from Sally's. I mixed it with a jojoba hot oil treatment and sat with the heating cap on for 30 minutes. I am not impressed at all. The Hennalucent always left my hair so soft & full of body. I am going to have to find an adequate replacement. I have no idea what is going on with my hair, but it is driving me crazy. I was so frustrated with it over the weekend that I almost chopped again. I really think our water softener is not working, but my husband insists that it is. We argued over this a couple of years ago & I ended up right about it not working. It is getting pretty old & probably needs to be replaced, but they are so expensive. I would really like to find an alternative such as an ionization system or even magnetic, which I have been reading about so I don't have to deal with the chemicals.
I can't wait until I have something good to post again. It seems like all I have done is gripe about my hair for the past year. I am going to change my routine & try not using sulfates again to see if it makes a difference. I am going to order some of Ida's shampoo bars again even though I did not like them for my hair before.

I am going to be varying my routine a lot to see what changes will work for my hair. I ordered some of Ida's shampoo bars to try out again. Even though we have a water softener, I don't think it is working properly. I ordered a shower filter and put it on today, so I haven't tried it yet. It is only supposted to filter out chlorine, so I don't know if that will help, but I had read so many reviews of how it really helped others with their hair & skin, so I am hoping for a miracle. It can't make it worse anyway. I also noticed that Lush is now offering most of their shampoo bars free of sodium lauryl sulfates. I still have 2 bars I need to use up before ordering more, but I can't wait to try them out.
Here is a photo of my baby kittens that I feel is absolutely relevent to this site as they do have long hair:) You will see in the slide show below that they love to play in my hair.
I forgot to measure my bangs when I cut them, so I don't know how much growth I have gotten. I will measure on 5/1 when I measure the length so I can start keeping track. Here is a slide show of my bangs and how I am styling my updos with them. I was having trouble doing many styles because the bangs would stick out everywhere, so I started keeping the bangs out and doing the style on the rest of my hair and then clipping the bangs over and tucking them under the buns and it is working out well.

The past year has been a total nightmare, both personally and for my hair. There were several serious medical situations in my family mainly, which were very difficult to deal with. But now I think I might truly loose it. My beloved cat, Callie, has passed away with Cancer after 13 wonderful years together. When I cut my hair a few weeks ago, it was when she was first diagnosed. The past few weeks have been horrendous while I tried everything possible to save her. There are no words adequate to describe the loss I feel and how much I will miss her. I am a total basket case.

I have been very unhappy with my hair for several months now. I am not sure what is going on, but it is very frustrating. I considered cutting back to waist length, but I was afraid of regretting it, so I decided to keep it trimmed at 45 inches, cutting about 1/2 inch each month for 4 months. Nothing is working, I do not see any improvement. Six to eight months ago, I loved my hair. I could do any style I wanted with ease and it was in great condition. Now, I am struggling with styling, things that were so simple before seem difficult now. The ends of my hair are not in bad shape, so trimming is not helping. It is all along the length that I have splits and when I try S & D missions on it, I end up with layers that stick out everywhere when I braid or do updos. I did not trim this month, so my length is 45 1/2 right now. I did my Hennalucent Conditioning Treatment with the last 2 boxes I had saved (it has been discontinued) and usually that makes my hair unbelivably manageable, but even that did not have the same effect as usual. I think that maybe our water softener is not working properly, because my scalp & skin are very dry & itchy. Since nothing I change up seems to help right now, I have resolved to completely ignore my hair to the best of my ability for the next several months and then see if this horrid phase has passed.

Okay, so I lied - I did not leave my hair alone as planned. Last night I had an uncontrollable urge to cut my hair. I am talking wacking it off. Luckily for me, after I cut 15 inches off the front and saw all that hair on the floor around me, I came to my senses. Of course, I regret it, but what's done is done, so I will have to live with it. It is cut to just below my chin in the front, like very long bangs. If I pull it back, you cannot tell it's cut. So, that at least it very good - I mean that I am still able to put it back in a ponytail, barrette, etc.
I have always hated layers in my hair, but every few years I will see a picture of someone who has them & looks great & I think I will try it again. My inspiration this time is the actress, Natalie Dormer, who plays Anne Boleyn on The Tudors. She has waist length hair, which I am sure is all extensions, except her hair is cut to frame her face in layers around the front. So, I thought I would cut it because I am so ready for a change with my hair. I also cut off about 1 1/2 inches on the ends, and I am still considering 3-4 more. Her hair is cut in layers from the front all the way back to the crown, so mine is still not like hers now, but it is definately a big change for me. Not necessarily a good one either, but it will always grow back.
I have not decided if I want to take the plunge and cut more or leave it and grow my "bangs" out. I am just so glad I did not chop it all off on the spur of the moment. Here are photos I took this morning.

Okay, I know they are really bad for my hair, but I just love my flannel sheets so much! And to add to the reasons I should not be using them, I just washed last night and this morning I have these little pieces of lint all in my hair, which I definately do not care for. I have a satin pillowcase I could use with my flannel sheets, but I like the feel of the flannel much better, especially when it's cold out. I did manage to use the satin with my cotton sheets during the warmer months.
I still haven't trimmed again as I had planned, so I am going to wait until I measure again the 1st of December & decide. I have not had any time to do any new styles either. And with the holidays coming up I don't see that getting better any time soon.
My daughter cut her hair to shoulder length. I hated to see her cut it, but it's her hair and she wanted it that way. She has went from wanting to be exactly like me to trying as hard as possible not to be. Ah, the joys of teenagers!

Well, I was so annoyed with my hair over the weekend that I cut some more off. I trimmed about 1 1/2 to 2 inches off of the length and did a S & D for about one hour, which I HATE to do and had not done in almost two years. And guess what? It does not seem to have made any difference at all. In the past, my hair always felt better after a trim, but the last 3 trims I have done have not helped at all. The last few inches just seem to be tangling alot.
I am having a bad hair season instead of a bad hair day apparently. I can usually throw my hair up into any number of fabulous updos easily and lately it just seems to be more unmanageable and I can't pinpoint it, but I am just not that happy with it. But, I don't want to cut it. My intention is still to get to mid-thigh and see if that is where I want to maintain it. Hopefully, this is just a phase & will pass soon.
To be fair, I haven't been doing much with my hair, but my routine has always been simple, so I don't know what the deal is. I am trying to finish up my stash of L'anza Long Hair & then I will experiment some more. I think maybe the cones are building up on my hair since I had not used them in over two years and now am again. Maybe I will find the time to clarify & then deep condition it soon. That is unlikely, but I can hope!

I hope I have finally solved my shedding issue - I'm just not sure what fixed it. I decided to trim off an inch and I changed my routine at the same time, so I don't know which made the difference. I was so worried about the excessive shedding that I had decided to cut off 5-6 inches at the end of the month, but now I won't have to.
The very strange thing is that as soon as I cut off 1 inch, my shedding decreased to about 1/2 of what it was - immediately I noticed it the very next day and it has continued to be so since then. I am now back to what is normal for me. I also changed my routine. My favorite shampoo & conditioner used to be L'anza Long Hair formula, but they discontinued it about 2 years ago. I have a stash of 1 bottle left of the shampoo & conditioner and I have been using it, so that may be helping also. I quit using it because of the sulfates & 'cones & tried to use more natural products. My Lush shampoo bars have sulfates, but I haven't used cones in a couple of years. My hair is responding very positively to them right now. I don't want to use them, but if it stops the shedding, I will do so temporarily.
I am going to continue using the L'anza for now and I think I am going to keep trimming my hair at 45 inches for now & see if I can "thicken" the ends back up some from all the shedding.

My hair seems to be doing pretty well right now. I was worried about the affects of the swimming pool we got. Luckily, we purchased an ionization system and don't have to use the usual pool chemicals. I am also trying not to wash more than twice a week, but sometimes it's 3 times. I usually keep my hair in a diagonal figure 8 held with two plastic hairsticks and it is amazingly secure. When I wear it loose in the pool it gets tangled and is always in the way. This seems to be protecting it quite nicely. I also am using my Shea Butter Creamy Souffle on the ends if I am going to get it wet and wash that day and I have used it on my scalp where the part is if I am going to be out a while since shea butter is supposed to have a natural sunscreen.
I did only get 1/4 inch growth last month, instead of my usual 1/2 inch and I am still shedding quite a bit, so that has me a little worried, but overall my hair looks good. I am curious to see if I can reach my goal of 48 inches. I have no idea what the terminal length of my hair will be. I have toyed with the idea of cutting it blunt across and taking out the V shape, but I would loose several inches and I really think this shape is easier for updos. Not sure why. So for now, I am maintaining my current routine and will see how it goes.

I have never liked regular commercial hair gel. This is excellent for making hair behave for braids or buns.
Aloe Vera Glossing Gel
3 parts aloe vera gel
1 part jojoba oil
Essential Oil for scent if desired
I keep mine in a glass bottle that I can shake up well before each use.

A little of this goes along way. It is also an excellent body moisturizer and very effective as a cuticle cream.
Shea Butter Creamy Souffle
1 part shea butter
1 part conditioner
1 part oil (I use a combination of any of the following: virgin oil de coco creme, Monoi, jojoba, sweet almond or grapeseed)
Melt the shea butter and add the conditioner and oil. As the mixture starts to harden, whip it with a wire whisk until light & creamy.

10 oz Olive Oil (EVOO)
6 T. jojoba oil
15 drops tea tree oil
30 drops jasmine or other essential oil
Shake all ingredients together in a glass jar, do this before each use to mix well. Saturate dry hair with mixture & cover with a plastic cap & leave on for at least 30 minutes. Use a heat cap for best results.

I use this about twice a year. When my hair is in a slump and nothing seems to be working, this always does the trick. Makes hair full & shiny! I get the products from Sally's Beaty Supply.
Hennalucent Conditioning Treatment
2.12 oz package of Hennalucent in "Neutral" (I use two packages for length)
1 8 oz bottle Queen Helene Placenta hot oil treatment
Heat the hot oil in a bowl and mix in the Hennalucent. Stir, adding hot water if necessary for desired consistancy. Apply to clean hair and cover with a plastic cap & leave on for 20 minutes. It's easiest for my to apply to damp hair. Can be used with a heat cap for better conditioning. Rinse out well and shampoo.

An absolute must for my scalp at least every other shampoo. I use it after shampooing and before conditioning. I dilute 1/4 to 1/2 cup in 2-3 cups of water.

If you have access to roses, this is a great rinse. I have lots of roses in my garden, so I figure I might as well make use of all those petals.
Rose Apple Cidar Vinegar Rinse
Apple Cidar Vinegar
Rose Petals
I use a clean 2 ltr soda bottle and fill it with rose petals and then pour over ACV until full. I leave it on the counter and shake daily for two weeks then strain the mixture and pour it into quart jars to store. The ACV turns bright red from the rose petals and I think it would be wonderful for red hair as a final rinse. It also smells heavenly! I use mine after shampooing and before conditioner though. I dilute about 1/2 cup in 2 cups of water.

Make sure this is mixed together well before applying. Dampen hair with water and apply mixture thoroughly into hair (I only do shoulders down). Wrap hair in a plastic shower cap and use with heat cap for 30 minutes. Rinse well & shampoo/condition as usual.
9/18/06 Update: I have tried this recipe 3 times now and will not use again. It simply does not work for my hair. I think honey must be better for curly types, because my hair does not like it at all. And I hate the sticky factor when applying it.

Simply mix an equal amount of baking soda into your usual shampoo. I had a lot of build up on my hair & it was really limp from swimming. I mixed about 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of Nature's Gate Herbal shampoo and I washed all of my hair including the length very thoroughly twice. I used more conditioner than usual afterwards too and now my hair is back to normal.
5/1/08 - This is what I am using for a clarifying treatment now: 1 T baking soda & 2 cups warm water. Combine the ingredients in a bottle or cup. Wet hair thoroughly and pour the rinse on your hair and work it through well. Rinse with warm water, then shampoo/condition as usual.

For the past two weeks, I have been trying to do scalp washes even though I don't like them. So far, I have managed to do a full wash only once during the week and one or two scalp washes. I also have tried Lush's Seanick soap bar, but I don't care for it as much as my others. Godiva is still my favorite. I have been using Trichomania for my scalp washes. I have been trying to post more styles as well, mostly buns. I hope to reach my goal lenth in 1-2 months and then I will try for even more length.

I have been back to washing twice each week with this horrible heat & humidity, which doesn't bother me, but I don't want to wash any more than that. I will continue to do the dreaded scalp washing if I have to, but twice weekly full washing is still fine I think. I am having a major shed again, but I don't think it's seasonal. I think it is probably due to stress as I have been dealing with a lot at work and medical issues with my mother. I hope it will improve soon, because it's worries me to lose so much hair.
I am trying another Lush bar, this time it's Ultimate Shine and I have only used it once, so not sure if I will like it or not. But the Seanick didn't work out, so I think from now on I will stick with the ones I already love. I have also been doing vinegar rinses again to help with my itchy scalp. It does help, but only if I wash twice per week and use it. I don't use it with the scalp washes and it seems to make it worse when I do a scalp wash.
I added a few simple styles to my gallery. I am always trying to come up with new styles and so I forgot to add the simple ones, such as a cinnamon bun, figure 8, etc. So, hopefully it will help someone.

I did a clear henna conditioning treatment last night and my hair feels so thick now. It always pumps my hair up so much. It has been a long time since I last did this and my hair needed it bad. I think it really strengthens the hair. I should do it at least 3 times a year. Because of trims, I still have not reached my goal of 45 inches, but I hope to within the next two months.

I think my hair has had a protein overload. I have been using a high protein shampoo for the last 5 weeks and then I did the henna treatment. I am going to clarify with a vinegar rinse and go back to using the Lush shampoo bars with Nature's Gate conditioner for the rest of the month and see how it goes.

It is so hot & humid that I am finding it hard to only wash twice per week. But so far am managing. Some good news is that I don't think I will need to trim this month. I was prepared to cut off another inch if necessary, but I haven't really noticed many splits when I S & D. I hope I will have reached 45 inches on 7/1 when I measure in. Still not using any protein right now. I do need to get back to my vinegar rinses as I almost gave them up over the winter months and have only done two in the last 6 weeks. I will wash tonight & use it to see if it helps with my itchy scalp.

Hereare slide shows of my hair from the beginning - the good, the bad, and the ugly. Starting with my Mom's fascination of the Kewpie doll curl, the dreadful Dorothy Hamil cut, feathered hair, big permed 80's hair and finally long, healthy hair. I will add to this each year to update.

I got an inch of growth this past month, which is good. My ends are awful, which is bad. I cut off 1 1/4 inches because my ends are tangling so bad. Usually this helps tremendously, but my ends are still tangling. I really wanted to reach 45 inches before cutting again, but it did not happen. I hope to get another inch of growth in May so I can cut off an inch to see if it helps any, if I can wait that long. I don't like to cut off more than 2 inches at a time, I prefer to do little trims instead of one big one. I might try cutting another inch before if I am still having trouble with the tangling ends this next week. I still have not taken the time to do a clear henna treatment, but I am going to try & see if it helps. I have been working in the garden every spare moment for the last 6 weeks.

There is definately something wrong with our water softener. My dry scalp and skin for that matter is driving me crazy. And my hair is very dull. Hopefully, we will get someone out to look at it and get it fixed in the next week. I want to do a clear henna treatment, but not until we get this fixed.

My scalp is driving me crazy - very itchy & dry and nothing seems to help. I still have not had the time to do any conditioning treatments, very busy here. My hair could use a trim, but since I am getting such great growth I think I will hold out a while longer.

I trimmed this weekend. I didn't measure, but I am figuring about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Still having problems with itchy scalp & skin also. I think our water softener is not working so I will have to check that out. My hair seems much thicker after the trim since I took off mostly the "V" shape. I will not meet my goal by May as planned, probably the end of summer now, but it is in better condition.

This will be quick as I don't have much time right now to update! My hair seems really dry from vacation - the water was horrible. My scalp is also very dry. I am at my longest length - 43 1/2 inches, which is classic on me. Every time I reach this length, I end up having to cut my ends. I am going to try to hold out for 44 inches, but we will have to see. I need to do a major conditioning treatment, hopefully this weekend!

I finally went for an entire week without washing my hair. I oiled good the day before I washed and I did not even have to use conditioner, my hair is super soft & silky! I had a sinus infection last week, so it was not difficult to go a week this time, but I don't know if I can keep that up. Still, twice a week is not bad. I bought a new hair toy also, it is a dragonfly claw made out of crystals and is very pretty.

I have been washing only once per week for the last 3 weeks, not sure if it is helping or not. I am going to keep it up a while longer. My ends feel like they need a good trim of about 4 inches, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I have been getting a lot of attention lately for my hair when I wear it down. Also, I have been trying to get my husband to pay a little more attention to it and am actually succeeding! I don't think he will ever be the type to help care for it, but I like for him to play with it & compliment it.

It has been unseasonable warm for the last few weeks here - mid 70's and so my experiment of washing once per week hasn't exactly worked out yet. It's supposed to drop 30 degrees and stay cool after tomorrow, so I am going to try. I have to wash tonight, so I am going to try to use my heat cap & condition. Also, I really want to try some new styles over the weekend if time permits.

Well, I finally found some time to put some new styles together and I will post them under the styles on my journal. I did a hot oil (jojoba) treatment with the heating cap before I shampooed and did not get as great of a result as I wanted. I think I need to do a clear henna treatment on my hair soon. It's getting colder now, so I will try to go a week this time for shampooing.

4 oz Castor Oil 1 T. Tea Tree Oil
2 oz Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2 T. Vitamin E Oil
1 oz Sweet Almond Oil 2 t. Patcholi Essential Oil (optional)
1 oz Grapeseed Oil
Mix all ingredients together well. I store mine in a glass bottle with a pump for dispensing. Apply a layer of oil to face (1 pump). Oil should be applied directly over any dirt or make-up. Apply a hot wash cloth over skin and let the heat open pores for about 1 minute. Remove cloth and massage oil into steamed skin for 1 minute or so, concentrating on your "T" zone. You can repeat the steaming with a hot wash cloth & leave on up to 5 minutes. Using the cloth, gently wipe away all traces of oil. Rinse cloth & continue to wipe away impurities and oil until face feels soft & all oil is removed. Splash face with cool water to close & seal cleaned pores. Pat dry. If skin tends to be oily, you can follow with a toner. If skin is dry, follow with a moisturizer.

1 Gallon Distilled water
4 oz Perfumer's Alcohol
2 Qts. Rose Petals
2 t. Rose Essential Oil (optional)
Use clean empty plastic gallon milk or water bottles for mixing. Divide all ingredients except EO between two gallon containers. Shake to mix and sit in a sunny window & leave for two days. Strain the mixture & store back in the plastic containers. For a nice pinkish red Rose Water be sure to use red rose petals and also chose those with a strong scent. If the finished mixture is not as strong as you prefer in scent, add the Rose EO and shake thoroughly. The alcohol self-preserves the rose water.
I have many uses for this. I use it on a cotton ball applied to the face as a toner after cleansing. I mix a little in my ACV hair rinse for incredible smell. I keep a small spray bottle of it in my vehicle through the summer to mist on my face & neck to cool off & it is so refreshing. I also keep a larger size spray bottle in the bathroom to use to freshen up my hair & face whenever.

I really love the sugar scrubs from Bath & Body Works, but they are expensive, so I can't use them as much as I like. So I have come up with my own version. I use the old jar from B & B to mix in. I fill it with brown sugar mostly, but will also use white granulated sugar, then add oil and essential oil or fragrance oil. Any oil can be used, but mostly I use coconut, macadamia nut or cocoa butter oil. I use whatever fragrance takes my fancy, right now I am loving a Chocholate fragrance oil and rose & jasmine. It leaves skin so soft and smelly yummy! Edited 4/3/07 - I have recently started using epsom salt as well as the sugar. Unless I am going to use it within a week or two, I use the salt instead of sugar.

Melt the Virgin de Coco Creme and add aloe vera gel & rosehip seed oil. whisk together and let set to harden. This will form a very soft solid. I barely touch my fingertip on the oil and then pat under my eyes. It will liquify on contact. I have been using this for two months now and I really like it. It absorbs well and has almost erased my slight laugh lines.

1 oz Vitamin E (40,000IU), Grapeseed & Calendula Oil blend
1 oz Rosehip seed oil

Did a S & D mission on the bottom 7 inches of my hair last night. My ends are not bad, it's the old layers that are always split up, so trimming the bottom does no good. My scalp has been really dry this past month. My daughter's has as well, so I am not sure what's up with that but I am going to have to figure something out to help with it.

Yesterday, I used the EVOO Protein Deep Conditioning treatment applied to my whole head. I usually don't do above chin, but I massaged it into my scalp this time as well. I also used the Dry Scalp Treatment, but I only let it set for about 30 minutes before washing it all out with Queen Helene Placenta Conditioning Shampoo and did an ACV rinse. This really helped my itchy scalp. For my daughter, I mixed up brown sugar and EVOO and put it in a bowl for her to keep in the shower. She has been rubbing this mixture into her scalp before shampooing and it has helped her tremendously. I can tell a huge difference. Her scalp was very dry and flaking all over bad, but now it is doing fine, so I am happy to have found something so simple that really works. I am still thinking about bangs. I am going to give it a lot of thought before doing anything.

I am still having a problem with dry scalp. The oil helps, but I would have to wash more often which I don't want to do. I am going to try to wash only once per week for the next month and see if it benefits my hair any. I did a scalp wash on day 5 last week. I don't know why I dislike scalp washing so much, but I do. It just doesn't seem to help me much, the hair still feels dirty. I still haven't had time to do any new hair styles, but I would like to.

This is the first photo I have taken since I trimmed last month and took off 1 1/2 inches. I am comparing the photos and it looks so much shorter now! Granted my hair is curled and that does make a difference, but still! I was going to cut off another inch, but now I am hesitating.

This has been such a busy month. There are at least two ballgames every night and I have been working in the garden a lot lately. There has been no time for my hair. I tried using honey again a couple of days ago and it will probably be the last time. My hair does not like it and I hate the messy application of it. Everyone else that has raved about it seems to have curly hair and mine is straight, so I am assuming that is the problem. I really need to take some time and do a Hennalucent treatment to perk it up. I would like to add some new styles to my journal also, but there has been no time! I will try to post more later.

My hair is shedding like crazy. The most I usually lose is a couple of hairs when combing, but now I am losing four times that amount and I am also losing when I shampoo, which normally does not happen. I usually comb before bed and then braid. Then I comb again in the morning when I take it out of a braid and style for the day. I am losing alot of hair each time instead of just a few at night as I was before. This has been going on for about two weeks now, so I am going to try not to handle my hair any more than necessary right now. I hope it doesn't last much longer. Trying not to panic!

I usually do a heavy oiling at least once per week before a shampoo. Over the weekend, I decided to take 1/4 cup of my Shea Butter Creamy Conditioner and melt it and applied it to the length of my hair. I used the heat cap for about one hour. This did not work out as well as I had planned. I had to lather & rinse shampoo 3 times to get it out, which defeats the purpose. Usually, I use about 1 tablespoon at most, so using more didn't help, it was just harder to rinse out! Live & learn! My hair used to be exremely dry and I just can't get used to not needing massive amounts of conditioning for some reason. My hair also does better if I concentrate on the length from my shoulder down only.

I didn't sleep well last night and was up early, so I decided to go ahead and wash my hair. I rarely ever wash in the morning. I used some of my L'anza Long Hair Shampoo & Conditioner. I haven't used it in about six months and I found out they were discontinuing it, so I have been hoarding it! It is always my reliable stand-by product. I have almost one full bottle each of shampoo and conditioner and when it's gone I guess I will have to try to find something similiar sigh. The weather has been so horrible! The heat index has been over 100 every day for several weeks and the humidity is unbearable! I hate humidity!!! My hair is not normally prone to frizz, but in this weather, it is unavoidable. I am so ready for Fall, it's my favorite season. Did I mention that I hate humidity?

Well I finally reached my goal of classic length at 42 3/4 inches!
This is the longest my hair has ever been. My ends were feeling really bad, so as soon as I reached my goal, I promptly cut off 1 1/2 inches. I think I could stand to cut off another 1-2 inches, but I am going to wait a little and see how well this trim helps. So I reached my goal yesterday and took it away already today, that doesn't seem quite right. Oh well, I am now going for a goal of 45" & we'll see if I can make it.
I also cut some "fringe" for God only knows what reason. I was too chicken to go with full bangs and so I have this wannabee fringe. It is still past my shoulders at around 13 inches, so it looks more like I am trying to grow it out than that I just cut it. I cut off a good foot of hair and seeing it was really scary even though it is just a little piece in the front. I don't want to go any shorter, so I have just given myself another piece of hair to grow out. Sometimes I wonder about what I am doing. Maybe reaching my goal after so long just made me react & do something different. My hair is still in a "U" shape and if I still am not happy with the condition of the ends in a few weeks, I am going to cut it straight across again.

Made some new hairsticks this weekend. Used the EVOO Protein Deep Conditioner with heat cap for 30 minutes then left it on while I fixed supper and worked out in the garden, so it was on for about 2 hrs. My hair was really soft when it dried. Also used the Rose ACV Rinse and I was a little worried it would temporarily stain my hair red, but it did not. The rose petals make the ACV really dark red, but since I rinsed it well & used conditioner after, it didn't matter. Loved the smell!

I have been trying Ida's soap bar in Egg, Beer & Honey and I so wanted to like this product. I have been using it for about 3-4 weeks and I think I must finally accept defeat. My hair just does not like it. It leaves my hair feeling like it has a coating on it. I have used ACV rinses each time I have used it, so that's not helping either. I bought some of Lush's shampoo bars and I am going to try them to see if they are any better on my hair. I also tried a new deep conditioner, but with the shampoo not working right, it's hard to judge yet how it worked. I am going to try it again with a different shampoo & see how I like it. I think L'anza has discontinued its Be Long line because I can't find it anywhere and I went to the website and it is no longer listed. I really liked it, so I don't know what I will do when I run out. If the Lush shampoo bars don't work out, I think I am going to try Aubrey Organics next. I am really liking the Nature's Gate Herbal conditioner, but I looked at the ingredients on the shampoo and it has SLS's, so I don't think I want to try it.

I am so happy this morning! I finally gave up on the Beer, Egg & Honey shampoo bar after three loooooong weeks of my hair being limp and coated. Last night I used Lush's Karma Komba bar and I loved it! My hair is soft and full again. I did my sleep braid last night as usual except I put a couple of curlers on the ends. Here is a photo taken this morning.

Last night, I tried another Lush shampoo bar - Godiva. I did not do a ACV rinse either. I was still worried about not using conditioner afterwards, but my hair felt great, so the pre-wash worked with it pretty good. This bar is not as hard as the Karma one, so it won't last as long and I probably will only use it ocassionally because of this. As strong as the scent was, I really expected it to leave more of a scent in my hair when it dried, but it was just enough, not over-powering. In my opinion, a great product if you love the smell of Jasmine!

Well, I have been in the "trying out" everything mode for the last month! I have used Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Shampoo & Conditioner the last two times. I love the smell, it is divine! But I am having a problem with it, my hair looks really limp after it dries. One thing I have noticed about the shampoo is that it is really runny & thin. But the conditioner is so thick I can hardley squeeze it out of the bottle! I am going to try one more time and not use quite as much & see how it turns out. I think I may be using too much product.

Last shampoo, I used the Lush Trichomania shampoo bar and really liked it. The last 2 shampoos with AO left my hair really limp, so I wanted to try something different before I give the AO one more try. I have been wearing my hair down this month and I am shocked at the condition of my ends. I usually always wear it up or braided and I can tell after only a few weeks how much of a difference this makes. I am contimplating a trim, but will give it a week or so to think it over.
