This the result of free handouts!!!

The recent arrests of the two students at UNITECH charged with raping a female visiting her brother and the recent forced boarding of the Airlines PNG aeroplane in Wabag may be a result of the free handout mentality brought on by the politicians.
The students don't think twice about their actions because they did not work hard or their parents did not have to work hard to pay for their school fees. This also goes for those that took part in the burning of the newspapers.
Those forcibly boarding the aeroplane have the free handout mentality, without a shadow of a doubt, ingrained. They have been given this and promised that and so,thinking the flight is free . I will grab myself a seat.
We are definitely pushing backwards.

Exactly, kedz. The mentally of handouts have been demonstrated by that forcible boarding of APNG flight. That was a total disgrace. This mentality seems to prevail in the highlands. I hope the problem is thoroughly studied and root causes identified. There must be a sense of law and conscience that governs one action must be re-established. This was typically demonstrated by the two Enga students raping a female and Unitech.

for these two so called elite of png to commit such a crime has brought great shame to Unitech as one of the country's leading learning institutions. I hope they get a fitting punishment for committing such a crime...

Very tru. The recently killing of a 3rd year comp.science while binge drinking is also a bad picture on Unitech. Its not getting any better!!. I assume there will be someheads that must roll within the administration. The administration should take responsibility and not steer clear. They must address moral and ethic issues.

Why blame the administration for students going out of campus to drink.
School rules are not made out of the blue....if they were, everyone would be complaining every day. How about....no leaving the campus after dark? response...ei mipela mangi ah?-->strike.
Or....do not drink alcohol? response...wanem, em mani blo yu ah?.
Rules have been made after careful thought and consideration of all the community at the university and from past experiences of the university and other institutions.
Olsem...lets also take some responsibility and reason things out.
Liklikesst thots tasol.

There have been numerous calls on the university manytimes both by students and staff to reopen the bar due to the increasing dangers for student and staff to travel out and night. I believe the universities must be ready to accept the reality of life and start educting the students on social behaviours as well. Administration have neglected the social aspect of student and staff wellbeing. This has resulted in rape, holdups and now murder. I believe the administration also must be held accountablity to some degree when such events occur within its own house and by its own students.

thanks

I agree with Kedz that the students were totally responsible for there actions. Just thinking about it, when I was there, the university restricted and monitored (by the top brass) staff and family designated recreation areas. This intimidated many staff, including myself and hence we opted to go out of campus for recreation activities. I also saw a petition by the students asking them to open the student recreation area because of the dangers of going out at night. The student guaranteed security themselves but however the admin refused. If the administrations relaxed on this kind of stance, it may have been different, but of course with new problems. But the question will be, which problem is more manageable?
