| I was just glancig through this book by Mc Bride and this particular title caught my attention.
"THE ROLES PEOPLE PLAY"
Every group is made up of a variety of individuals who will bring their own personalities, attitudes, values and behaviour to bear upon the group. Each will play different roles in the group. Here are some of the roles people play;
1. The Peace-maker
.Tries to bring together people who disagree.
.Helps to make conflicts disappear.
.Has a "let us be friends" approach which reduces any bad feelings in a group.
2. The Helper
.Opens communication by encouraging others.
.Is warm and friendly so others feel like contributing to the group.
.Helps to make issues clear.
3. Initiator
.Gives new ideas.
.Finds solutions for group problems.
.Organises ideas and materials.
4. Flier
.He won't or can't deal with the situation.
.He avoids facing up to problems.
.He changes the subject.
.Goes off on different topics.
5. Fighter
.Starts arguments and fights.
.Blames others to make himself look important.
.Puts people down.
.Is angry at the group or some member.
6. Joker
.Clowns, jokes and mimick others.
.Tries to be funny.
.Disrupts the work of the group.
7. Blocker
.Interferes with the progress of the group.
.Keeps the group from getting its work done.
.Disagrees with all suggestions.
.Tells stories which have nothing to do with the topic being discussed.
8. Dominator
.Interrupt others.
.Talks for a long time.
.Tries to be the boss
.Thinks that he is always right.
9. Withdrawer
."Don't care" or just sits there.
.Daydreams and doodles.
.Withdraws from group by not speaking or whispering to others.
10. Intellectual
.Regards discussion as important.
.Gives little lectures on his ideas and theories.
.Talks above people's heads.
It is interesting to know that some people exhibit two or three of those roles. Maybe it is from their parent's genes...lol....sometimes the kids are totally different from their parents.
What do you all think?

Very interesting. No wonder we have all sorts of characters. You get along with some and some just put you off..get what I mean? Some are very nice to be around, some makes you feel uncomfortable, some just talk on and on and some are just plain bad.. so if i rate my self, I would say I have a two roles that suit me and a little bit of each of the remainding. |
