Papua New Guinea welcomed 102,400 tourists for 2007, a 32% increase on full-year figures from 2006, as Pacific visitors rise.
Australia continues to be the market’s highest number of travellers, amounting to a little more than 50% of all international visitors.
The other markets which follow closely behind are the USA and Japan respectively at second and third.
Kiwis are also beginning to head to PNG as a holiday destination, with many now going purely for leisure. Overall leisure holidays grew by 33% in the year.
Business still remains the top reason for travel for international visitors, this year with 60% of travellers entering PNG for business reasons.
