Err,
in the Forsyth Notation K4 is the fourth square in front of the king.
So,I have moved my pawn from the second square where it is set up initially, to the fourth square. This is the usual opening move, for the play known universally as "The Kings Gambit".

Easy way,
when I used to play a lot, was to have a board set up on a table at both houses.
So for your postal game/s, you used to make your move and your opponents on that board. Unless you are Bobby Fischer or someone, I doubt if you could hold a whole game in your mind.
If you are numbering a board in the Forsyth Notation -- Number one starts at each end. In other words white's K4 is black's K5.
I haven't played even one game in about 15 years. So I'm pretty rusty.

I found a cool site for chess. Its called postcard chess, all you need to do is enter you email and the opponents email and moves are sent direct to your email. Well, I'm on standby to play the winner.
