Ok this is what happens.

You go to a bank in PNG that is paypal is affliated to. You then deposit the money into your paypal account.

Before all this you have to signup for an account on paypal. Its all free of charge.

After you deposit money into you paypal account, all you do is spend online.

Maybe ANZ or Westpac might be the facilitator for PAYPAL. Am not sure about BSP.

Paypal

Paypal as I understand it ( from using Ebay) is that you go online and register for Paypal account, you usually have to have a visa debit card, I believe they are offered in png these days ( correct me if I am wrong ) and every time you pay using pay pal it is deleted from your nominated account. Not sure of the logistics in png. Perhaps Kolwan will educate us a bit further down the track.I have a Pay pal account that can be used for ebay or for buying credits for IMVU. Paypal is safe because the people you are buying from must be accredited before they can recieve your payments through paypal, and it saves you entering your credit card details over the net only once when you set up your account.

All the while I was thinking paypal is some kind of credit card. It sounds like a good option to credit cards. I'll do a few calls with ANZ and Wespec to find out. Thank you mes for the info.

Paypal - flaws in PNG

May 29 2007, 1:41 PM

Here is a few flaws I noticed as I checked out the sites.

1. You cannot transfer money from you local bank in PNG to Paypal inorder to purchase online.

2. You cannot also transfer your money from Paypal to your local bank account to access it.

However, an option is to get a credit card. With a credit card you can transfer money to paypal and use for online purchase. ANZ and Westpac has a Visa Debit which is convinient for ordinary Papua New Guineans to use.

Paypal-Flaws in PNG

May 29 2007, 2:57 PM

Ok, people this is a bit off the topic here. With Westpac, to have a visa debit card, don't know if that is the right name but that is the card that enables you to have access to your other accounts anywhere. You have to score certain points to have one and for ordinary Papua new Guineans, that is beyond reach.

My hubby and I have enquired and another option was there and it is called a three in one something, can't remember the name. It is the one where you can have access to your account to check balances and all other related transactions with the Telegrahic transfer being the only option left if you are going to have access to your accounts here while abroad. With a monthly fee of K7.00, that is better than nothing.

So if any of you know of a bank that has something better, could you let me know?

Thanks

Just go for the Wetpac Visa Debit card......I got one already!!!

It's easy....any ordinary PNG can get one....if you have an account with Westpac...then just apply for a Visa Debit card.....they will only see if you have regular income going into your account and will approve it.

I got my Visa Debit with Westpac in less than 2 months.....
