SMS to Aussie can be done. I have tried it. That was in 2004-2005. You have to change some settings in your phone. The SMS service was the same cost as a local SMS.
Then the service was disabled for some reason.
Do not know what happened since.
Luk olsem service was avaible tasol it was cheap so when many people found out and started using it, they disabled it, then stretim ol costs nambaut na re-introducim gen.

I have had telstra and VODAFONE accounts and was able to text to png easily but the receiver had to set the phone up to be able to receive text messages, they cost 55 cents in comparison to local text of 25 cents

I say its my guess coz I am only guessing but if Vodafone and Telstra can text message to PNG then chances are so can all networks, I will give you all an example of a text message number to send to png ok say this persons mobile number is 123456 to send a text from Australia you must enter this number 0011675 234569 ( see the first number is removed ) you get my drift you cant just dial in the international number, you must dial the country code then area code and for them to send a text back from png I dont know australian code as I dont call my self from outside australia I think it might be 61 but any way my mobile number is 0404331163 to send me a text they would have to dial the International dial code and then drop the first 0 of my mobile number and replace it with my country code, making my number 61404331163 yu guys save. At any rate most service providers for mobiles have a free call number for technical support,, you could always try there.

TELIKOM is now offering international SMS text messaging services to all Telikom B Mobile customers.
This new service came into operation as of 10am yesterday.
Telikom acting managing director Peter Loko said the service was free of charge during the launch period and allows Telikom B Mobile customers to send unlimited international text messages to any Telstra or Optus customer in Australia.
“We want all our 173,000 B Mobile customers to enjoy the fun and convenience of sending text messages to Telstra and Optus customers in Australia, and we offer it to them free of charge during the launch period,” Mr Loko said.
The international text messaging service is being offered for the first time in the country by a mobile company in this instance the Telikom B Mobile.
The Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) is yet to decide and approve the cost of sending SMS text messaging to Australia.
Telikom also made available inbound mobile roaming to Telstra and Optus SIM card holders to operate within PNG that also came on line yesterday.
“International roaming is a complex subject involving bilateral arrangements with the service providers in various overseas countries.”
Mr Loko said outbound roaming, which was to allow PNG post-paid mobile customers to use their PNG SIM card, while traveling in Australia is technically available, but on hold pending cooperative discussions with ICCC.
“In takes time to establish agreements, charges and financial agreements, and at this time there is no global SMS or roaming available.
“In a short time, we will provide these services.
“However, for the moment, we are happy to introduce the SMS text service for our customers, to get a taste of the convenience and the business advantage that it brings.”
Mr Loko also said Telikom would have a series of new services unfolding for the benefit of the customers.

The person who was texting me from png told me recently that it was an Australian Pre paid account on ROAM that enabled them to text me from there, I have had two different people text me from PNG so maybe they were both Australian Pre paid accounts.....seem texting from PNG with PNG accounts has only just come in
