Mate think about oil palm, which is widely grown in Malaysia, Indonesia, PNG etc . Jathropha has similar uses as oil palm. As a biofuel and an edible oil, Jathropha has the potential to be an alternative crop in PNG as well.
Thanks

There is a program been headed by Dr. Fifia Matainaho, he is the country technical manager to pioneer Jathropha plantations in PNG. I was fortunate to have dinner with him and he say that the oil contents even reach 60%. I'll get more information and post it up.
cheers

There was a Malaysian Investor wanting to develop Jathropha Plantation in PNG. The developer secured a land in PNG somewhere in the Central Province of PNG in 2007. The land area was around 116, 000 hectares. However due to land owner politics, the project did not commence. We were told that Japhropha is the top candiate for bio fuel and the company was planning to make PNG the reference center for Bio fuel with jathropha. however that can not be realised now becasue of the infighing between the land owners of the propsoed project site.

Absolutely spot on Wally, there are many projects that have Landowner infighting as the major hurdle for project realization. Flip coin is that project investor must significant concession and be sensitive to such norms.

Geez! Kolwan,
it is ages ago that I was discussing this with SCG. Let me see if I remember anything by now.
It is a fine oil-bearing plant, of very high yield. I don't think it is as good as Coconit oil as an SVO for diesel fuel. (What is?). I certainlt would be good for making Biodiesel.
If I remember correctly, there have been reports of toxicity build up in workers, working with and harvesting the plant. I don't remember any more, and I don't remember what the Pathinogen was, or even if it had been identified.
Regards......Ralph.
